Ozonvernichter-Einheit (Scrubber) für OzonanaiysatorenOzone destroyer unit (scrubber) for ozone analyzers
There are currently two main types of ozone scrubbers in the reference branch of ozone analyzers for use primarily in the emission range or for MAK monitoring:
a) Kufpemetze mit Manganoxidbeschichtunga) Copper mesh with manganese oxide coating
b) Siberwolle, beheiztb) Silver wool, heated
Scrubbers a) are available, for example, in a design with several (e.g. 12) nets on top of each other. To ensure even air flow, there is often a frit on the air inlet side. Scrubbers b) require a heater.
Die bekannten Ozon-Scrubber weisen insbesondere folgende Nachteile bzw. Unzulänglichkeiten auf:The known ozone scrubbers have the following disadvantages or shortcomings in particular:
a) Rest-Querempfindlichkeiten gegenüber Begleitgasen, &zgr;. &Bgr;. Kohlenwasserstoffen (bes. Aromaten) und Feuchte.a) Residual cross-sensitivities to accompanying gases, z. B. hydrocarbons (especially aromatics) and moisture.
b) Temperaturunterschiede der durchströmenden Gase (z.B. beim Umschalten auf Nulluft) wirken sich negativ aus.b) Temperature differences of the gases flowing through (e.g. when switching to zero air) have a negative effect.
c) Eine exakte Nullpunktfestlegung bereitet oftmals Probleme.c) Determining the exact zero point often causes problems.
d) Belastete Meßluft (Schadstoffe, Nebel) verkürzt die Standzeit erheblich.d) Contaminated measuring air (pollutants, fog) significantly shortens the service life.
e) ReI. hohe Fertigungskosten und Betriebskosten.e) ReI. high manufacturing costs and operating costs.
f) Hoher Aufwand zur Einhaltung gleichbleibender Qualität, besonders bei unterschiedlichen Fertigungs-Chargen (es ist z.B. weltweit nur ein Hersteller von Manganoxid überzogenen Kupfernetzen bekannt, der das erforderliche Know-how besitzt).f) High effort to maintain consistent quality, especially with different production batches (for example, there is only one manufacturer of manganese oxide-coated copper mesh worldwide that has the necessary know-how).
A significant reduction or avoidance of the disadvantages listed above is achieved by using the new ®noXon-S scrubbers. A significant residual cross-sensitivity to hydrocarbons in tests with the new scrubbers has not yet been observed. Temperature differences and contaminated measuring air have no observed influence. A consistently high quality (see f) above) is always guaranteed.
In addition, the ®noXon-S scrubbers require far less manufacturing effort and have significantly lower operating costs.
The following points were given special consideration during the design process, which are a prerequisite for functionality:
a) Optimierung der mit dem Gasstrom in Berührung kommenden Oberfläche,a) Optimization of the surface in contact with the gas flow,

c) geringer Druckverlust; hohe Durchflußgeschwindigkeitc) low pressure loss; high flow rate
d) Wahl eines geeigneten Gehäusematerialsd) Choice of a suitable housing material
e) Generation von Kalibrier-Nulluft (Ozon-freie Luft) mit Hilfe einer ®noXon Patrone anstelle der Aktivkohlepatronee) Generation of calibration zero air (ozone-free air) using a ®noXon cartridge instead of the activated carbon cartridge
Die exakte Nullpunktfindung ist oftmals ein Problem. Bisherige Handhabung: Finding the exact zero point is often a problem. Previous handling:
Most ozone analyzers for the immission area have an option for internal zero air provision. The zero air for ozone is generated from the ambient air using an activated carbon cartridge, which is located in the analyzer or on the outside of it. This is switched on at selectable time intervals via a two-way or multi-way valve.
Since the activated carbon absorbs most of the associated gases either completely or partially (depending on the age of the activated carbon), "zero" is not precisely defined.
Another difficulty is that a "humidity equilibrium" of the scrubber in the analyzer with the zero air must often be achieved in a very short time, e.g. in significantly less than 10 minutes. The disappearance of the "last tailing" of e.g. 2 to 3 ppb (water vapor cross-sensitivity) requires a longer time.
Nulluftdefinition mit ®noXon-S:Zero air definition with ®noXon-S:
An ideal "zero air" for ozone measurements is a gas stream from which ozone has been quantitatively removed and the other "associated gas components" remain unchanged.
For the first time, it is now possible to generate such zero air using ®noXon-S zero air cartridges. When flowing through such a cartridge, which is basically constructed like the scrubber, a flow equilibrium is reached with regard to the accompanying components after a very short time (short spontaneous response). The only exception is NO 2 , which is partially absorbed but does not cause any cross-sensitivity in the analyzer.
Besonders vorteilhaft ist die Kombination Nulluftfilter mit Scrubber desselben Füllmaterials, nämlich ®noXon-S.The combination of zero air filter with scrubber made of the same filling material, namely ®noXon-S, is particularly advantageous.
