Universal tape

The invention relates to a universal tape for wrapping objects or for forming re-detachable tunnels or tubes.

The universal tape is used in technology as well as in areas of everyday life, sport and medicine, as well as for protection or rescue in the event of disasters.

In technology, the universal tape can be used wherever objects need to be wrapped in a spiral shape, such as cable wrapping, pipe wrapping, insulation wrapping and the like.

Important areas of application for the universal band are in the areas of daily life, sports and medicine.

For example, the universal bandage can be used as protection or bandage on human body parts. Since the bandage adapts perfectly to the shape of the body and works equally well and safely on both the left and right

Body parts such as arms and legs can be used, resulting in a wide range of applications in the medical and sporting sectors. Examples of applications include the following:

Splint bandage for broken bones in arms and legs; support bandage for rib injuries; as a protective or decorative over-bandage for plaster casts; as a normal bandage for skin injuries; as a pressure bandage for injuries to stop bleeding; as a protective bandage against bumps, kicks, bruises; in sports as protection against the risk of injury and to support joints, etc., e.g. in football, handball, ice hockey, hockey, tennis, squash, mountaineering, skiing, roller skating, motorcycling or cycling; it can also be used in sports as a training aid, e.g. as a joint weight.

The universal tape can be used on the arms, legs, feet, chest, stomach, groin, neck and head of both humans and animals for the above purposes. A short adhesive strip can be provided to fix the tape to the object.

It can also be used as protection against animal bites and the like (e.g. leg protection for postmen) and in a special version to protect against gunshot or stab wounds.

Finally, it can also be used to attach parts to the wrists or ankles, such as a watch strap, a compass strap or a simple decorative strap for the arms or legs.

Another area of application for the universal tape is disaster and rescue services. Here, as explained in the medical field, the tape is used to provide first aid to injured people with broken bones, external injuries, bleeding, etc. and, on the other hand, it can be used in large format versions to make tubes for rescuing people. This is particularly intended for the construction of tubes for sliding down from the upper floors of a house, from airplanes or the like. However, it is also possible for these tubes made from the universal tape to be used on construction sites to remove rubble from houses.

Although there are a number of more or less suitable means for the various fields of application mentioned above, there is still a lack of

on a part that is suitable for many uses, easy to handle and always ready to hand, and can be used universally. For example, a splint with a conventional bandage wrapped around it certainly serves the purpose of immobilizing a limb, but this splint is often very cumbersome. For example, a dog that has sustained a leg injury that needs to be splinted is very limited in its freedom of movement, if it is able to move at all. However, this contradicts the dog's natural urge to move, so that it either has to be immobilized by force or the splint has to be constantly reattached, so that this solution is not very satisfactory in practice.

But even when treating injuries to the human body, it is often necessary to bandage or immobilize body parts. The normal bandages made of cotton or elastic material that have been used up to now are not particularly suitable for bandaging conical body parts such as forearms or legs, as they quickly shift from the parts with a larger circumference to the parts with a smaller circumference and thus no longer fulfill their function. This can only be remedied if these bandages are tied extremely tightly, which in turn means discomfort for the person affected due to the constriction. In the case of an arm injury, for example, it is hardly possible for the injured person to correctly apply a conventional bandage made of a normal bandage alone and without help, as holding and wrapping the bandage with just one hand at the same time is extremely difficult.

Even in stressful situations, for example in the case of an injury caused by an accident, when the first helper to arrive at the scene of the accident or the injured person themselves must quickly provide first aid, it can be extremely difficult for the untrained helper or the injured person to apply a conventional bandage, exacerbated by the stressful situation. Here too, it would be desirable to have a simple and safe means of first aid available, which can be used without difficulty and in a medically correct manner even in a stressful situation.

When using protective bandages and the like in sports, there is also the problem that such a bandage should not slip or come loose during sporting activity, or only slip slightly, which is not guaranteed by conventional means.

When rescuing people from houses, airplanes, etc., it is currently not possible to provide safe slides/tubes on site in a short time when required, as the necessary materials currently take up too much space to be carried in rescue vehicles.

A similar problem exists with construction waste disposal pipes, which are currently made up of bulky bucket-like elements that are difficult to transport from one construction site to another.

It is therefore the object of the present invention to provide a universal tape for wrapping objects such as human or animal body parts, cables, pipes and the like, or for making tubes or tunnels, which essentially avoids the above-mentioned disadvantages and is quick, simple, safe and universally applicable.

The object is achieved according to the invention by a universal tape which has a first adhesive fastener tape on one edge of the top of the tape in the longitudinal direction, which is divided into lobes on its longitudinal outer side by transverse incisions in a continuous row, and a second adhesive fastener tape on the other edge of the bottom of the tape, so that the tape, viewed from one end in cross section, has the first adhesive fastener tape on the right edge of the top of the tape in the longitudinal direction and the second adhesive fastener tape on the left edge of the bottom of the tape in the longitudinal direction, so that by a spiral rotation of the tape from this end from left to right by 360°, the second adhesive fastener tape on the left bottom engages with the first adhesive fastener tape on the right top, and the tape, viewed from the other end in cross section, has the first adhesive fastener tape on the left edge of the top of the tape in the longitudinal direction and the second adhesive fastener tape on the right edge of the bottom of the tape in the longitudinal direction, so that by a spiral rotation When the tape is rotated 360° from right to left from this other end, the second fastener tape on the right bottom side engages with the first fastener tape on the left top side, so that in both cases both the inner surface and the outer surface of the spirally wound tape result in a substantially smooth surface.

The band can be used for wrapping from left to right as well as from right to left, whereby the optimal fit is achieved in each case. The band only needs to be wrapped in a spiral once from one end and the other time from the other end. This is particularly advantageous for use on a person's left or right limbs, such as the arms. As soon as the adhesive fastener tapes on the top and bottom touch, they are automatically connected so that the user only has to concentrate on the wrapping itself, which in particular makes it possible to wrap an injured arm, for example, with the healthy arm without any outside help. To make this even easier and support this, the universal band can have a star-shaped or cross-shaped or other cut opening at one end and, particularly advantageously, at both ends for passing the thumb or a finger through. The opening(s) can already be fully formed or only prepared with perforations, so that the user can then easily pierce through them if necessary. The edges of the thumb loop can be reinforced either with a seam or with inserts made of plastic or metal.

If the tape is made of relatively stiff and strong materials, it can easily be converted into a stable, self-supporting tube that can be used in many ways by winding it in a spiral and then connecting the first and second fastener tapes. If dimensioned accordingly, it can be used, for example, as a tube for removing rubble from houses or the like, or as a slide for saving people's lives from airplanes, houses, etc. Additional anchoring at the fastener points may be necessary here.

Further advantageous embodiments of the invention are contained in the subclaims.

To ensure that the spiral wrapping produces an optimal formation of the wrapping or tube and that the wrapping stays in place over the long term, the upper of the two adhesive connection tapes is designed with separate, adjacent tabs that lie close to one another or overlap when the tape is spirally wrapped, so that a conical shape of the wrapping is achieved. If the wrapping is cylindrical,

the lobes are placed less closely together in order to optimally reproduce the cylindrical shape. The greater the inclination of the surface to be wrapped, the closer the lobes will be to one another during the spiral wrapping or even overlap slightly. The lobes can have different shapes, but lobes that taper towards the outside, are square, oval, semi-circular, strip-shaped, triangular, jagged or diamond-shaped have proven to be particularly advantageous.

Instead of the patch-like adhesive tape, however, a continuous tape with longitudinal elasticity can also be advantageous in special applications. For example, the universal tape for certain applications, such as for use as an elastic bandage, can itself be designed to be longitudinally elastic, so that in this case the adhesive fastener tapes are also designed to be elastic.

A further advantageous embodiment of the invention provides that the adhesive fastener tapes are designed as Velcro fastener tapes, one of which is a Velcro hook tape and the other a Velcro fleece tape. These known Velcro fastener tapes have proven to be particularly advantageous for applications in the medical and sports sectors because they are easy and safe to connect and can also be separated just as easily. They have a long durability, so that the universal tapes equipped with them can be reused many times. For these areas, it is preferred to manufacture the universal tape with the Velcro fastener tapes from washable materials, which should also meet medical hygiene requirements in the medical sector.

In a further advantageous embodiment, the Velcro fleece band can be formed over the entire bottom surface in order to simultaneously act as a soft, cushioning inner surface that is pleasant for the skin. Especially for medical purposes, the universal bands and the Velcro fleece bands are made from materials with anti-allergenic, skin-friendly and breathable properties, and possibly also with sweat-absorbing properties.

Depending on the intended use, the universal tape itself can be made from any conceivable material and can be provided with additional elements that give it the desired properties.

It can be used for medical and/or sports applications on

the top and/or bottom side can be provided with padding elements. These padding elements are made of hollow or solid profiles or a combination of the two and are either located on the belt or are integrated into it. They can extend over the entire length and/or width of the belt or be divided into individual profiles. It is also possible to provide just a single hollow profile that is continuous over the length. These padded belts are particularly advantageous in the field of sport, in particular for protecting body parts in sports where collisions between athletes can often occur, such as football, handball, ice hockey, rugby and the like, or where falls are to be feared.

In order to reduce friction losses for competitive athletes, motorcyclists, cyclists and the like, the universal band can be coated on the surface with a special adhesive or weldable film that replicates the surface pattern of shark skin. Under the microscope, this surface pattern looks like an almost uniform aerodynamic mountain range and achieved the best Cw values in wind tunnel tests. The purpose of this film is that when the universal band is put on, a natural aerodynamic blockage occurs, i.e. a loss of speed. In order to counteract this, the special film with the surface pattern of shark skin is advantageous.

But such padded universal bands are also very useful for protecting against animal bites, e.g. for postmen, who are particularly at risk from dog bites. Alternatively, universal bands made of a very strong material can be used to wrap the vulnerable body parts.

The upholstery elements can advantageously be made of plastic and/or be fabric-reinforced.

In other advantageous embodiments, the universal band is provided with plate-shaped inserts and/or supports. These inserts and/or supports also significantly expand the application area of the universal bands. For example, it is possible to equip the bands with heavy plates for training purposes by athletes or for strength training in order to easily create joint weights. These plates are preferably arranged on the top of the band or inside the band. Another alternative is to make the plates from shot-

and explosion-resistant and/or cut- and stab-resistant materials and to provide the bands with them. This means that they can be wrapped around the body as protective equipment in disaster and war operations. But important supply lines, especially above-ground ones, such as water pipes, in disaster and war zones can also be advantageously protected from destruction in this way and then easily returned to their original condition.

The plates are arranged in a roof tile or scale-like manner and can also be designed in the form of armor, but without losing their adaptability to the object to be wrapped. Depending on the intended function, the plates can be made of any conceivable material. The following plate materials have proven to be particularly advantageous:
Steel, ceramic, non-ferrous metal, plastic, wood, titanium, aluminum or combinations of these materials.

In a further advantageous embodiment, the strips are equipped with solar cells or solar strips on their top. This enables a wide variety of applications for generating small amounts of energy in conjunction with the corresponding devices. For example, it is conceivable that flashlights could be wrapped with these strips and charge the flashlight batteries or supply the energy required for the light bulb. Poles stuck into the ground with such wrappings can also generate electrical energy together with the corresponding devices, e.g. for small mobile consumers such as campers.

As already mentioned, the band itself can be made from any conceivable material depending on the intended use. The following materials are particularly advantageous:

Elastane, viscose, polyamide, close-meshed or wide-meshed bandage fabric made of natural fiber or blended fabric, close-meshed or wide-meshed terry cloth, ceramic fabric, cotton, silk, warp fabric made of non-ferrous metal, steel fabric, aluminium fabric or titanium fabric, carbon fiber, Kevlar or combinations of these fabrics, synthetic fiber, non-ferrous metal fiber, aluminum fiber, steel fiber, titanium fiber or natural fiber.

The tape fabric itself can also be made of bullet- and explosion-proof as well as cut- and stab-proof fabric.

For medical and sporting purposes, it is also advantageous that the band is made of a material with breathable, anti-allergenic, skin-friendly and sweat-absorbing properties, which should also be washable to allow the band to be used multiple times.

The fabric can also be provided with a thin plastic layer, the fastener tapes can also be covered with a plastic layer.

For medical and technical purposes, it can be advantageous if the tape is self-supporting. In this case, the adhesive fastener tapes should also be relatively stiff, so that a relatively rigid bond is formed after wrapping. This is particularly advantageous if the universal tape is to serve the function of a splint, e.g. for limbs that need to be immobilized, or if the plaster cast is to be replaced by a self-supporting bandage made of the universal tape in the case of minor or uncomplicated fractures, for example, or for producing the self-supporting tubes mentioned above.

In another case, it may be desirable for the universal tape to fulfill the function of a conventional bandage for dressing open wounds or the like. In this case, it is again advantageous if the universal tape is made, for example, from conventional dressing material and has a Velcro fastener tape only on the top, which adheres to the dressing material itself when wrapped spirally around the affected body part. In this case, or if the material of the universal tape is made from a similar material that adheres to the Velcro fastener tape, the second Velcro fastener tape is unnecessary.

Furthermore, the universal band can also be made of elastic material, the advantageous application of which is obvious and has already been mentioned above.

In a further advantageous embodiment of the invention, the adhesive fastener tapes are attached to the surfaces of the tape in such a way that they are flush with them. This results in smoother and more even inner and outer surfaces for the wound tape, which is desirable.

In addition to the Velcro fasteners already mentioned, other adhesive fasteners are also possible and advantageous for certain applications. For example, self-adhesive tapes, suction cup tapes, tapes with pressure fastener elements or pressure grooves can be used instead of Velcro fasteners. Of course, the self-adhesive tapes must be designed in such a way that they can be detached from one another again.

In a further advantageous embodiment of the invention, joint caps are arranged between two bands to ensure the protection of the joints, for example during sports.

In a further advantageous embodiment of the universal strap, it is adapted as a watch or compass strap.

If the tapes are made of particularly large dimensions and from a resilient and relatively stiff material, they can be used to make tubes and emergency slides. Additional anchors can be arranged at certain adhesion points to ensure that the tunnel tubes stay together even under greater loads. This application is particularly advantageous in disaster or fire operations because the universal tape can be transported in the rescue vehicles in a space-saving form and can be quickly and easily wound into a tube on site.

This tube is also suitable for construction sites, for example as a rubble chute and can advantageously replace the voluminous bucket chutes that are difficult to transport from one construction site to another.

For the sake of completeness, it should be mentioned that the adhesive fastener tapes are permanently connected to the tape or are integrally formed with it.

As can be seen from the above description, the universal tape offers a wide range of uses that only require minor modifications. But even in its basic state, the universal tape reveals a large number of uses, and is extremely variable and easy to handle in all applications, so that a basic need for universally applicable and easy-to-handle tools in everyday life is satisfied.

Another advantage of the invention is the simple way of producing the universal band. The band can be manufactured industrially in large lengths and then made available to the consumer in a wound state or already cut to length. It is also possible for the consumer to have the desired length of their chosen universal band cut to size by the retailer. In particular, the bands with thumb holes for wrapping or immobilizing the arms should, however, be sold cut to length. The ends of the bands are fixed with Velcro or otherwise closed.

The invention is described below using embodiments with reference to the accompanying drawings.

Reference is first made to Figures 1, 2 and 3. Figures 1 and 2 show top views of the top and bottom of a universal band 1 designed according to the invention. The band is provided with oval padding 2 on its top side 3, which makes the band 1 particularly suitable for use in the medical field and/or sports field. A Velcro hook band 5 is permanently attached to a longitudinal edge of the band 1 on the top side 3 as the first adhesive connection band. The Velcro hook band 5 has lobes 7 formed by incisions 6 on its long side facing away from the band 1. These lobes 7 lie close to one another when the band 1 is wound spirally around an object 15, as can also be clearly seen in Fig. 3. In this embodiment, the lobes 7 also have an oval shape.

Fig. 2 shows the top view of the underside 8 of the band 1 from Fig. 1. As can be clearly seen, a second adhesive connection band in the form of a Velcro strip 10 is permanently attached to the underside on the other edge. The remaining surface of the underside 8 of the band 1 is smooth and can, depending on the application, be rubberized, for example, or made of a skin-friendly, breathable and anti-allergenic material.

Fig. 3 shows the type of wrapping and the adhesion between the two Velcro strips 5 and 10. The object to be wrapped is designated 15, which can be a human arm, for example. In contrast to Fig. 1, the band 1 shown here is not provided with additional padding elements, but is also flat on the top 3. As can be clearly seen from Fig. 3, the universal band 1 according to the invention forms an almost smooth outer surface after wrapping and tightly encloses the object 15 to be wrapped with an equally almost smooth inner surface. In this case, the spiral wrapping takes place from left to right, which corresponds, for example, to wrapping the right arm. When the object 15 is wrapped in a spiral from left to right, the first Velcro hook tape 5 on the top 3 and the second Velcro fleece tape 10 on the bottom 8 meet and are releasably connected to one another by the Velcro hooks of the Velcro hook tape 5 and the Velcro fleece of the Velcro fleece tape 10 hooking into one another. The spiral winding and the fixing of the edge create a relatively stable structure that forms a self-supporting cover when the tape material is relatively stiff.

If the bandage is to be removed from the object 1 5, this is done by pulling on the end of the band marked 1 2 and unwinding the

Band 1 in the opposite direction, i.e. from right to left in Fig. 3. The Velcro straps 5 and 10 can be easily detached from each other. If band 1 is made of a washable material, which is a great advantage in the medical and sports fields, band 1 can be reused as often as desired after washing.

Figures 4 and 5 show top views of the top and bottom of a band according to the invention in an alternative embodiment. The band 1 shown here is smooth on its top side 3 and in turn has a Velcro hook band 5 with oval tabs 7 on one edge of the top side. On the bottom side 8, the band 1 is in turn provided with the Velcro fleece band 10 in a longitudinal edge area, which is designed as a continuous band. The Velcro bands 5, 10 are in turn permanently connected to the band 1.

Fig. 6 shows a special application of a strap designed according to the invention. The strap is used here to attach a watch to a person's arm/wrist. As can be seen from Fig. 6, the universal strap 1 used as a watch strap has a predetermined length and a watch 14 with its watch case is attached to the top 3 of the strap 1 approximately in the middle of this length. The watch 14 can be attached using different fastening techniques, e.g. by gluing, by attaching, welding or by pulling the strap through fastening devices on the watch. Otherwise, the strap 1 is designed as previously described with a first Velcro hook strap 5 on one edge on the top 3 of the strap 1 and a second Velcro fleece strap 10 on the other edge of the bottom 8 of the strap 1 and is wound spirally around the arm as shown and described in Fig. 3. In the present case, the strap material used is primarily textile fabric, but also leather, imitation leather, plastic or metal. The upper side 3 can also be designed with any pattern (not shown), such as a snake pattern, pictures or the like. In a similar way, compasses or the like can be attached to the wrist for wearing. The surface design using any pattern is of course not limited to the watch strap, but can be carried out on all straps according to the invention.

In Figures 7 and 8, which again show the top side 3 and bottom side 8 of a tape 1 in plan view, the first adhesive fastener tape in the form of a hook and loop tape 5a is not divided into lobes, but similar to the

Velcro tape 10 is designed as a continuous tape. This is particularly advantageous if the tape 1 is made entirely from a longitudinally elastic material. In this case, the Velcro hook tape 5a should also have at least some longitudinal elasticity to ensure that the wrap sits well. The use of such an elastic tape with the continuous Velcro hook tape 5a is again particularly in the medical and sporting fields, but also in the technical field, e.g. cable wrapping.

In Figures 9 to 39, the band 1 is shown in cross-section, whereby the arrangement of the adhesive fastener tapes 5, 10 on the band 1 as well as various functional design options through versatile cross-sectional shapes, cushioning elements, inserts or overlays become clear.

Fig. 9 shows the cross-section of a band 1, in which the first Velcro hook band 5 on the top side 3 of the band 1 and the second Velcro fleece band 10 on the bottom side 8 of the band 1 are flush with the surface of the top and bottom sides. This is achieved by means of corresponding recesses for accommodating the Velcro bands 5, 10.

In Fig. 10, the top side 3 is designed with the Velcro hook tape 5 as shown in Fig. 9, while the bottom side 8 is covered over its entire width with the Velcro fleece tape 10. Preferably, the Velcro fleece tape 10 is also applied to the entire length of the tape 1. This provides soft padding and at the same time fulfills the function of the Velcro fleece tape 10.

In Fig. 11, the band 1 is additionally provided with a chain fabric 16 cast with plastic and reinforced on the underside, but which is not visible on the outside. In this version, the Velcro hook tape 5 and the Velcro fleece tape 10 are also attached directly to the surface of the top 3 and the bottom 8, respectively, without corresponding indentations being provided. This makes it easier to manufacture the band 1.

Fig. 12 shows the design of hollow profile padding elements 18 on the top 3 and the bottom 8 of the band 1. The hollow profile padding elements 18 will give way slightly when the band 1 is wrapped around an object 1 5 due to the air-filled cavity and thus adapt well to the object to be wrapped. The hollow profiles provide particularly strong padding. The Velcro fasteners 5,

10 are each again attached to the surface of the top side 3 or bottom side 8 in a non-flush manner.

Fig. 13 shows a hollow profile cushion element 18a with an alternative cross-sectional shape. It should be noted that the hollow profile cushion elements can be continuous over the entire length of the belt, but can also be divided into individual elements over the length.

Figures 14 and 15 show a belt profile in which the padding is provided by an air-filled cavity inside the belt itself. The padding elements are not applied to the belt surface as in the examples in Figures 12 and 13, but the belt itself has a cavity 20 inside it, which in turn can be designed with different cross-sections. The cavity 20 can extend over the entire length and width of the belt or be divided into cavity chambers. The same applies to Figures 19, 20, 24 and 25 and to all other designs with a cavity.

Fig. 16 shows a tape 1 in which the upper side 3 is provided with the non-flush Velcro hook tape 5, and the underside 8 is fully or partially covered with a rubber coating in profile form or without a profile.

Fig. 17 again shows a hollow profile cushion element 18b, which is arranged on the upper side 3 of the belt 1, whereby in this embodiment the Velcro strips 5, 10 are also attached to additional reinforcements 17.

Figures 19 and 20 again show a band 1 with an integrated cavity 20, which only differ in the different design of the Velcro strips 5, 10. In Fig. 19, both the Velcro hook strip 5 and the Velcro fleece strip 10 are formed over the entire width of the band 1, while in Fig. 20 the Velcro hook strip 5 is formed in the usual way only on one edge of the top side 3 and the Velcro fleece strip 10 is formed over the entire width. The cavity 20 can extend over the entire length and width of the band or be divided into cavity chambers.
