Description

The invention relates to a birdhouse for wild birds, in particular for small birds. On the one hand, there are known bird feeders that are set up in winter to feed wild birds. Furthermore, nesting boxes are also known that are hung on trees to offer wild birds an artificial breeding opportunity. Both the known bird feeders and the known nesting boxes are only used for part of the year, so that they have to be removed in spring or autumn and stored for the next season. This is due to the storage space required and the storage costs.

The necessary work, e.g. dismantling and possibly taking apart the birdhouse, is disadvantageous. On the other hand, one of the main reasons for setting up such bird feeders or nesting boxes is to have the opportunity to observe wild birds. This opportunity is only available with the well-known birdhouses during certain times of the year. In addition, there is a risk that the birds will move to other feeding or nesting places if they can no longer find their usual feeding or nesting place at the right time because the birdhouse was not set up in time.

It is therefore the object of the invention to create a birdhouse, in particular for small wild birds, which can be used all year round.

This task is accomplished by a birdhouse, which includes:

- a nesting area shielded by side walls, which has a loophole that allows a bird to slip into the nesting area from the outside of the birdhouse, and

a feeding area that is accessible to birds from the outside of the birdhouse and is shielded from above by a ceiling and/or roof.

According to the invention, it can be provided that the nesting space is closed off from the outside of the birdhouse and the feeding area, except for the loophole.

According to the invention, the birdhouse can contain a device for changing the size of the loophole.

In another embodiment of the invention, it can be provided that the means for changing the size of the hatch allows a discrete size adjustment and comprises one or more movable pinholes which can be attached to a hole in a wall of the nesting space in such a way that the opening available for the hatching of a bird is reduced.

Preferably, the apertured screen is movable via a slider so that it can be pushed into a working position in front of or behind the hole in the wall of the nesting space, in which it covers it completely or partially, and can be withdrawn from the working position away from the hole.

Preferably, the height of the loophole is approximately 32 mm or approximately 26 mm.

Accordingly, preferably the means for changing the size of the inlet opening is arranged to set the height of the loophole to about 32 mm and/or about 26 mm.

The invention can further provide that the feeding space is delimited towards the outside of the bird house by one or more side walls, wherein at least one of the side walls has an inlet opening for letting a bird into the feeding space.

It can be provided that at least one side wall is partially transparent so that sufficient light reaches the interior of the feeding area.

The invention can further provide that the feeding area and the nesting area are arranged one above the other. Preferably, the nesting area is located above the feeding area.

Preferably, the upper part of the feeding area and/or the nesting area, e.g. a ceiling or a roof, is removable.

The birdhouse according to the invention preferably has a pyramid-shaped roof.

According to the invention, the bird house can be arranged on a support so that its height can be adjusted.

With the birdhouse according to the invention, it is possible to tie birds to a specific place all year round and thus make them accessible for observation. It is particularly advantageous if the birdhouse is mounted so that it can be adjusted in height, so that it can be set up according to the visual needs of children, for example. By choosing the appropriate size of the loophole and the inlet openings to the feeding area, unwanted bird species can be kept away; the pyramid-shaped roof construction also contributes to this in an advantageous way. Furthermore, the concept of the birdhouse according to the invention offers the advantageous possibility of designing this house in such a way that it fits into the overall picture of a park or garden in a visually appealing way. In particular, the birdhouse can be modeled on a residential house, e.g. a Tuscan country house.

The embodiment of the birdhouse according to the invention shown in Figs. 1 to 4, which is preferably made entirely of wood, is modeled on a Tuscan country house and has a square base. It has two floors 1 and 2 lying one above the other, with a porch 5 running around the lower floor.

The lower floor 1 consists of a feeding room 10 which is delimited by four side walls 11. Each side wall 11 has an inlet opening 12 which allows birds access to the feed in the feeding room. The size of this inlet opening 12 is preferably chosen so that small birds, e.g. tits, can access the feed, while larger birds, e.g. blackbirds or pigeons, cannot reach the feed. The side walls 11 can also have transparent windows 13 so that sufficient light can reach the feeding room. A narrow ledge 14 runs around the house in front of the porch 5, which can have steps 15, the ledge and the steps preferably being dimensioned so that small birds can land and sit comfortably on them, while this is not possible for larger birds.

A nesting room 20 is located on the upper floor 2, which is delimited by four external walls 21. In general, the nesting room 20 is shielded from view, light and/or weather in a way that corresponds to the breeding habits of the desired bird species. In the embodiment shown, the nesting room 20 is completely closed off from the outside of the bird house and the feeding room 10 by a front wall of the house 21, inner side walls 25, a floor 26 and a ceiling (not shown) except for a loophole 22 in the front wall 21, so that it forms an artificial cave. The floor 26 and the side walls 25 are supported on a crossbar 27 arranged between the first and second floors. Alternatively, the floor 26 can also extend over the entire area of the upper floor. In front of the hatch, on the outside of the birdhouse, there is a perch 23 that makes it easier for a bird to slip into the nesting space 20. The nesting space is delimited by the front wall 21 and the inner side walls 25 so that the space size is suitable for the desired bird species. In one implementation variant, the side walls 25 and, if applicable, the floor 26 are interchangeable or adjustable so that the size of the nesting space 20 can be set to a desired size suitable for the corresponding bird species. If necessary, the nesting space can also fill the entire upper floor 2; in this case, the side walls 25 coincide with the outer walls 21.

A circular shape is preferred for the loophole, although other shapes are also possible. The size of the loophole 22 is based on the size of the desired bird species. Its height is preferably 26 mm or 32 mm. These dimensions have proven to be particularly suitable if blue tits and related birds are desired as nesting sites. In a special embodiment of the invention, the size of the loophole 22 can be adjusted according to the desired

desired bird species. For this purpose, the hole 22 is combined with a cover, whereby the cover determines the size of the opening available for a bird to enter. In this case, it can be provided that a continuously adjustable cover, e.g. an iris diaphragm, is attached behind the outer wall 21 and the hole 22, which allows the loophole size to be continuously adjusted. Alternatively, a slider with one or more perforated covers can be provided behind the outer wall 21, which can be pushed in front of the hole 22, thus reducing the size of the loophole. The diameter of the hole 22 is advantageously 32 mm, and at least one cover with a diameter of 26 mm is provided on the slider, which can be pushed in front of the hole 22. In a modification, the effective diameter of the loophole can also be reduced by placing pinhole attachments with a corresponding opening onto the hole 22 from the outside or inside.

The openings 12 and 22 can each be closed, for example, by a slide or an attachment, so that contamination of the nesting area or the feeding area and the penetration of vermin into these areas can be avoided when they are not in use.

A pyramid-shaped roof 30 is placed on the second floor, which, because it has no horizontal edges, makes it difficult for larger birds to land on the roof and keeps smaller birds away from the food.

The roof 30 is removable so that the nesting chamber 20 and the feeding chamber 10 are easily accessible from above and can therefore be easily cleaned and in winter, when the nesting chamber is not used, the feeding can be refilled

is easily possible. In implementation variants, it can be provided that the entire upper floor 2 is removable or that the nesting room 20 can be removed by removing the partition walls 25, the floor 26 and, if necessary, the crossbar 27 in order to have even better access to the feeding room 10.

Preferably, the birdhouse is made of wood and is height-adjustable on a plastic support. In this way, it can easily be adapted to the respective requirements, e.g. so that it meets the visual needs of children.
