Description
Stone chips can cause small scratches of a few millimetres in diameter on windscreens made of laminated glass in motor vehicles. If they are not in the driver's immediate field of vision, these scratches can be repaired using clear-curing synthetic resin.
US 4,419,305 A discloses a device for carrying out such repairs, in which a cup-like part surrounding the damaged area is placed on the windshield and sealed off from the windshield by a circumferential sealing ring. In its base facing away from the windshield, the cup-like part has a passage for an application instrument, which comprises a cylinder for supplying the synthetic resin and a piston that can be pushed forward by turning to press the synthetic resin into the damaged area.
A similar device is known from US 3,765,975 A, in which the synthetic resin is introduced into a cavity formed by the device above the damaged area using an injection syringe and is then fed to the damaged area using a screw-type piston.
In both cases, the device is pressed against the windshield by hand during the repair, which puts strain on the windshield in the immediate vicinity of the damaged area. This pressure can cause the damaged area to become larger and possibly irreparable.
Der Applikator weist an derEP 0 341 437 B1 describes a device with the features specified in the preamble of claim 1, which has an applicator for attachment to the windshield and an injection syringe for supplying the synthetic resin through a through-opening in the applicator. The applicator consists of a small and relatively thin plastic disc, which is attached to the windshield via a double-sided adhesive ring. The applicator has

der Glasscheibe zugewandten Fläche einen Stutzen auf, mit dem er eine entsprechende Öffnung in dem Klebering durchsetzt, und ist auf seiner entgegengesetzten Seite mit einem Ansatz zur Aufnahme des Ausbringendes der Injektionsspritze versehen. the surface facing the glass pane has a nozzle with which it passes through a corresponding opening in the adhesive ring, and is provided on its opposite side with a projection for receiving the discharge end of the injection syringe.
With the known design, it is not always possible to prevent the initially liquid synthetic resin from getting not only into the damaged area but also between the adhesive ring and the windshield or into the area between the adhesive ring and the applicator disk and escaping outwards, deforming the applicator disk. In this case, there is a risk that the applicator will come loose from the windshield, making proper repair impossible.
The invention is based on the object of providing an easy-to-use device for repairing glass panes, which ensures secure fixation of the applicator to the glass pane.
The solution to this problem is characterized in claim 1. The rigid, solid body that then forms the applicator prevents it from deforming due to the pressure of the synthetic resin to be pressed in and from accidentally detaching from the glass pane. Preferred dimensions for the body used in the device according to the invention are specified in claim 2.
After the repair has been completed, the applicator body can be easily separated from the glass pane using the release device specified in claim 3. The eccentric arrangement of this device ensures that a peeling process begins at one point without a particularly high pressure or pulling force having to be exerted.
An advantage of the development of the invention according to claim 4 is that damage to the glass pane is prevented even if the release device is placed directly on the pane.
A particularly easy and safe to handle design of the release device is specified in claims 5 and 6.
In the embodiment of the invention according to claim 7, the further advantage is achieved that the release device does not act directly on the glass pane, but on an adhesive film arranged between the glass pane and the applicator body, which not only leads to a corresponding distribution of force, but in particular also protects the glass pane against scratching.
The development of the invention according to claim 8 is advantageous for curved glass panes, whereby the measure of claim 8 ensures the most favorable attachment of the adhesive film strips.
Claims 10 to 13 relate to preferred measures that facilitate handling of the device during repair work.
Darin zeigtPreferred embodiments of the invention are explained in more detail below with reference to the drawings. Therein shows

The front surface 11 used to rest on the glass pane 23 to be repaired has a diameter of 40 to 80 mm, preferably 60 mm. The height perpendicular to the front surface 11 is at least 15 mm; in the embodiment shown, the cylindrical part has a height of approximately 20 mm and the frustoconical part has a height of approximately 25 mm, resulting in a total height of 45 mm.
The applicator body 10 is penetrated by a central through-bore 12, which has a central smooth guide section 13, a smooth section 14 with a larger diameter adjoining it in the direction of the end face 11 and a threaded section 15 in the area facing away from the end face 11. A sealing sleeve 35 is inserted into the bore section 14 (see Figures 3 and 4).
A bore 16 is eccentric to the through-bore 12 and parallel to it, which is interrupted in its middle area by a segment-shaped cutout 17 open towards the peripheral surface of the applicator body 10.
In the axial plane, which is rotated by 90° to the plane formed by the holes 11 and 16 (the drawing plane of Figure 3), two diametrically opposed, approximately semicircular cutouts 18 are provided, which run from top to bottom and are open to the peripheral surface of the applicator body 10, have a width of, for example, 20 mm and, as can be seen from Figure 3, run inwards from top to bottom.
Eine in den Applikatorkörper eingesetzte, in eine Längsnut 22 der Gewindespindel 19 eingreifende Madenschraube 21 bewirkt, daß sich die Gewindespindel 19 nur in ihrer Axialrichtung, nichtA threaded spindle 19 is inserted into the bore 16 and can be moved downwards by turning a hand nut 20 arranged in the cutout 17, which protrudes laterally beyond the peripheral surface of the applicator body 10. A grub screw 21 inserted into the applicator body and engaging in a longitudinal groove 22 of the threaded spindle 19 causes the threaded spindle 19 to move only in its axial direction, not
aber relativ zur Glasscheibe 23 bewegen kann. Dadurch werden Beschädigungen der Glasscheibe 23 auch dann vermieden, wenn die Gewindespindel 19 unmittelbar auf der Glasscheibe 23 aufsetzt. but can move relative to the glass pane 23. This prevents damage to the glass pane 23 even if the threaded spindle 19 rests directly on the glass pane 23.
Figure 3 shows how the applicator body 10 is placed on the glass pane 23 to be repaired in such a way that the through hole 12 is aligned with the damaged area 24. A centering pin 25 is inserted into the through hole 12, which has a rear handle part 26 and a front part 27 with a thinner diameter. The part 27 is dimensioned such that it can be easily moved in the guide section 13 of the through hole 12. The lower end of the pin part 27 is provided with a conical tip 28, which can be observed during alignment with the damaged area 24 through one of the two lateral cutouts 18 provided in the body 10.
In der gewünschten Ausrichtung wird der Applikatorkörper 10 durch zwei an seiner Stirnfläche 11 angebrachte StreifenIn the desired orientation, the applicator body 10 is secured by two strips attached to its front surface 11
29 einer doppelseitigen Klebefolie an der Glasscheibe 23 angeklebt. Die Klebestreifen 29 sind in Figur 2 und 4 angedeutet. Wie ersichtlich, werden sie so angebracht, daß einer davon die Bohrung 16 an ihrem unteren Ende bedeckt.29 of a double-sided adhesive film is glued to the glass pane 23. The adhesive strips 29 are indicated in Figures 2 and 4. As can be seen, they are attached in such a way that one of them covers the hole 16 at its lower end.
Als nächstes wird in den von der Dichtungshülse 35 gebildeten Raum - beispielsweise mittels einer geeigneten (nicht gezeigten) Injektionsspritze - flüssiges Kunstharz 34 in einer zum Ausfüllen der Schadstelle ausreichenden Menge eingefüllt (siehe Figur 4).Next, liquid synthetic resin 34 is filled into the space formed by the sealing sleeve 35 - for example using a suitable injection syringe (not shown) - in an amount sufficient to fill the damaged area (see Figure 4).
Der DruckstiftThen, as shown in Figure 4, a pressure pin 30 is inserted into the through hole 12, which has an upper handle part 31, an adjoining threaded section 32 and a lower piston section 33. The pressure pin
Bei diesem Vorgang läßt sich die unmittelbare Umgebung der Schadstelle30 engages with its threaded section 32 in the threaded section 15 of the through hole 12, whereby it moves downwards and its piston section 33 presses the synthetic resin mass 34 into the damaged area 24. During this process, the immediate area around the damaged area can be

der Handmutter 20 nach unten verschoben.24 can be easily observed through the large side cutouts. The damaged area 24 itself can also be observed from the opposite side of the glass pane 23, if necessary with the aid of a mirror.
To subsequently release the applicator body 10 from the glass pane 23, the threaded spindle 19 is moved downwards by turning the hand nut 20.
The lower end of the threaded spindle 19 exerts pressure on the glass pane 23 via the adhesive strip 29 present there, which tends to tilt the applicator body 10 due to the eccentric arrangement of the threaded spindle 19 relative to the glass pane 23. This initiates a peeling process which ensures that first one and then the other adhesive strip 29 is connected to the glass pane 23 without great effort.
The adhesive strip 29 located between the lower end of the threaded spindle 19 and the glass pane 23 not only distributes the force, but also prevents direct friction between the spindle and the glass pane 23, which could otherwise lead to further damage to the glass pane.
The device according to Figures 5 and 6 differs from that according to Figures 1 to 4 in that the front surface 11 of the applicator body 10 is set back except for two lateral projections 36 for fastening the adhesive strips 29 and a central projection 37 for abutting a lower flange of the sealing sleeve 35. By attaching the adhesive strips 29 to the projections 36, it is ensured that these are located at diametrically opposite locations and as far apart from each other as possible, which is useful for efficiently fixing the applicator body 10 to the glass pane 23. It is also ensured that one of the adhesive strips 29 is located at the lower exit end of the bore 16 in order to prevent contact between the threaded spindle 19 and the glass pane 23.
