Multimedia bedeutet ein Systemkonzept der Informationstechnik, bei dem Informationen aus verschiedenen Medien, wie Standbild, bewegtes Bild, Toninformation und Text in einer integrierten Gerätekonfiguration erfaßt und bearbeitet werden können. Eine diesbezüglich typische Gerätekonfiguration ist ein sog. Multimedia-PC, der Informationen aus unterschiedlichen Quellen, z.B. aus einem Hifi-CD-Gerät, einem CD-ROM-Speicher oder auch aus einem Videorecorder zusammenträgt, bearbeitet, speichert und wiedergibt. Dazu ist es notwendig, den Multimedia-PC unter anderem mit einer sog. Sound-Karte, einem CD-ROM-Laufwerk und zusätzlichen Lautsprechern nachzurüsten. Die Wiedergabe der Videosignale erfolgt über den ohnehin vorhandenen Monitor des PC. Die zusätzlichen Lautsprecher werden dabei zweckmäßig nach Art von Stereo-Boxen zu beiden Seiten des Monitorgehäuses befestigt, um dem Benutzer eine möglichst gute Audio-Qualität zu liefern. Für die zusätzlichen Lautsprecher kommen grundsätzlich zwei Systerne in Betracht. Entweder aktive Lautsprechersysteme, wobei der dazu notwendige Verstärker in einer der beiden Boxen angeordnet ist und die zweite Box über eine Querverbindung versorgt wird; oder über übliche passive Lautsprechersysteme, wobei jede Box mit der Sound-Karte des PC verbunden werden muß. In beiden Fällen ist neben der mechanischen Befestigung der beiden Lautsprecherboden ein zusätzlicher Aufwand für die Monitor-externe elektrische Verdrahtung erforderlich.Multimedia is a system concept in information technology, in which information from various media, such as still images, moving images, sound information and text, can be recorded and processed in an integrated device configuration. Die Befestigungselemente 5,6 und die entsprechenden Gegenelemente am Monitor können als Steckkontakt oder beispielsweise auch als Teile einer Schraubverbindung ausgebildet sein. Die entsprechende Schraube taucht dabei in eine Bohrung 7 im Lautsprechergehäuse 2 ein, bis sie mit einer im Monitorgehäuse integrierten Schraubenmutter in Eingriff kommt.
