Abstract

Diesel fuels consisting of (a) a petroleum middle distillate, suitable as a diesel fuel (pref. at least 60 vol.%); (b) a smaller concn. of ethanol (pref. 10-25 vol.%); and (c) 5-20C (9-11C) aliphatic alcohols, opt. etherified (pref. 5-15 vol.% of a 8-18C alcohol, liq. at ambient temp.). Component (c) acts as solvent for (a) and (b). The fuels make it possible to use at least some ethanol (a plant-derived prod.) in diesel engines (low ignitability prevents its use alone. Component (c) makes the mixt. less sensitive to phase sepn. by water addn. and improves the cold stability. The ignitability is relatively good.
