Verfahren zur Darstellung von Mononitrocarbazolen. Patentiert im Deutschen Reiche vom 28. September 1913 ab.Process for the preparation of mononitrocarbazoles. Patented in the German Empire on September 28, 1913.
The simplest method practiced so far was direct nitration, ζ. Β. of carbazole, in glacial acetic acid. This method comes down to its costly technique for the technique and because of the laborious recovery of the glacial acetic acid used here, it is not in Consideration, especially because at
In der Patentschrift 259504, welche ein Verfahren zur Nitrierung der N-Alkylcarbazole mittels salpetriger Säure behandelt, ist sogar angegeben, daß die unmittelbare Nitrierung der N-Alkylcarbazole nach den üblichen Verfahren bisher überhaupt versagt hat.ίο the representation according to this method that 3-Nitrocarbazole only in unsatisfactory yields and with other nitro products such as z. B. i-nitrocarbazole (cf. Ber. 42 [1909], P. 3797 ff.), Is obtained contaminated. Other methods of immediate nitration of the Carbazoles have not yet become known. N-alkyl and N-aryl carbazoles are so far has not yet been nitrided directly at all. In patent specification 259504 which a process for the nitration of the N-alkyl carbazoles Treated by means of nitrous acid, it is even stated that the immediate nitration the N-alkylcarbazoles according to the usual Procedure has so far failed at all.
It has now been found that both the carbazole and its N-alkyl or N-aryl derivatives and also the halogen carbazoles in inert, water-immiscible solvents or suspending agents can be mononitrated in a very advantageous manner with nitric acid. Side reactions, which due to the oxidizing and condensing effect of nitric acid on free amines otherwise occur and because of which one such amines in the nitration by setting the Amino groups, d. H. by introducing acidyl groups (see e.g. the illustration of 3-nitrocarbazole via 3-nitro-N-benzoylcarbazole, Ber. 24 [1891], p. 281) or by protects the formation of a sulfuric acid or acetic acid salt (see Ber. 34 [1901], p. 1672), occur with the present Method, surprisingly, only to a minor extent.
The process is also something completely new and surprising in that when it was the first general process for the nitration of carbazole, its N-alkyl and N-aryl derivatives as well as the halogen carbazoles.
The recovery of the solvents or suspending agents used can be carried out in a simple manner and can be done cheaply and is also used for many purposes in the further processing of the nitrocarbazoles obtained, such as B. for their further sulfonation (see. Patent 291023, cl. 12 p) or chlorination not even necessary; you can rather use the solutions or suspensions of the obtained Nitrocarbazole, without first separating them, directly to the corresponding ones Process derivatives further.

After prolonged stirring and standing, the reaction mixture is mixed with a little benzene petroleum ether, in order to precipitate the greasy products that have arisen in small quantities, from these filtered off and the resulting 3-nitrocarbazole from the filtrate by further addition of Benzene petroleum ether precipitated. The product obtained with a melting point of 201 ° is almost perfect pure. After recrystallizing once from xylene, a product with a melting point of 206 ° is obtained, as stated in the literature.
