Abstract

Intraluminal twin-bulb catheter bypasses part of a blood vessel whilst maintaining blood flow, and enabling blood to be drained or medicaments to be administered. The catheter is inserted through the vena or arteria femoralis. It comprises 4 parts vz. the catheter proper, 2 inflatable bulbs, 2 tubes with stabilising mandrel, and a control bulb. The catheter is made of flexible material, e.g. silicone rubber, PVC, rubber, and is provided with heparinised surfaces, X-ray-positive contrast stipes, and longitudinal markings. Used in surgery of liver, large abdominal vessels, transplant operations of stomach, liver, pancreas, and kidney and colon tumour operations.
