In Fig. 1 to 7, AA are the rails, BB the. Cross sleepers and CC, Figs. 1 and 2, the longitudinal guard rails or cheeks, which are used on elevated tracks. Two sleepers B are shown under the rail material. DD are brackets made of steel or iron and between these and the rails are layers α α made of vulcanized fiber or some other insulating material. Fig. 4 shows one of these documents in side and end views. A plate b made of insulating material, FIG. 2, is arranged between the adjacent ends of these two rails, the contour of which corresponds to the rail profile. In this way the rails are completely isolated from each other and from the brackets. A reinforcement plate E, which can be made of cast iron, lies against each flap. This is partly designed to keep the bracket firmly pressed against the rail, and is itself isolated from the rail by either enlarging the underlay α and leading it down to the rail foot, Fig. 1, or by doing it leaves a margin between the two, Fig. 5. Each rail is provided with two holes in its web near the fabric, in the same way as when the usual brackets are to be used. These holes are shaped slightly oval to allow the rails to expand and contract. Two pins cc go through these holes from one side and are fixed either in one of the tabs D or in one of the reinforcement plates E; the latter is preferable.
Fig. 3 zeigt die Stifte in den Laschen befestigt, was vorzugsweise durch Vernieten geschieht, und zeigt die Verstärkungsplatte mitFig. 3 shows the pins fastened in the tabs, which is preferably done by riveting, and shows the reinforcement plate with
Make holes in which the pins will fit. That way, each pin sticks out one side of the fabric into the hole of the rail web, on the other side of the Stofses into the hole in the reinforcement plate, creating the rail, bracket and reinforcement plate on one side of the fabric are connected to one another in such a way that a longitudinal movement of one part against the other as far as the oval shape of the Allowing holes to move.
One rail A 1 is connected in this way to a tab D ' and a reinforcement E 1 by the pins C 1 C 1 , while the other rail A 2 is connected in the same way by pins i 2 1 2 with the tab Z> 2 and the Reinforcement E is connected on the opposite side. Each backing layer α is drilled through twice, Fig. 4, the holes coinciding with the two pins cc of the adjacent flap, while the remaining part is not drilled through. The pins cc do not reach through the rail web, but end in front of the imperforate part of the underlayer a, whereby they are isolated from the opposite flap. In this way each rail is electrically conductively connected to only one strap and one reinforcement, and since the opposing straps and reinforcements are insulated from one another, the current finds no way to get from one rail to the other.
Fig. 1 and 2, as well as Fig. 5 and 7 show such connections, wherein the sleepers B produce a rigid connection.
In Fig. Ι and 2 FF wedges, two of which are arranged between each reinforcement plate E and the adjacent protective cheek C. The inclined side of each wedge is turned against the reinforcement plate and fits into a recess d in it, resting against the shoulders ee . In this way, the reinforcement plate is prevented from moving in the longitudinal direction. Each wedge F is held by a bolt f or a nail which goes into or through the threshold B. As soon as the bolt is tightened, it pulls the wedge down, and as it sits firmly against the protective cheek C / the reinforcement plate E against the rail.
In Figs. 5, 6 and 7 a connection is shown which is better used in an ordinary flat path where there are no protective cheeks. The reinforcement parts EE have flanges h A which lie on the sleepers and are connected to them by oblique bolts //. When these bolts are tightened, the reinforcements will not only be wedged together, but will also be held firmly down against the sleepers.
In Figs. 1, 2 and 3 I have also expressed another aspect of construction, namely the use of short pins gg which correspond to pins cc , only that they do not go into the rail web. These can be riveted into the tabs D , FIG. 3, or they can be cast into the reinforcement E and pass through holes in the tab. Their sole function is to connect the reinforcement and flap more rigidly in the longitudinal direction.
They are omitted in FIGS. 5 and 7, where the pins cc are intended to make this connection.
It is not essential, however, that the tabs and reinforcements interrelate through these Pins are connected as they have every other interlocking connection can. So z. B. Shoulders on one side against corresponding shoulders fit on the other side.
Fig. 10 shows a tab D with two pins cc, which protrude to the side against the rail, but not to the side against the reinforcement, the latter with flanges and respectively. Projections is provided so that the flap is enclosed by the same.
Die Verstärkungstheile sind nicht so lang wie die Laschen, sondern werden durch Winkel EE gebildet, welche die Laschen fest gegen die Schienen drücken sollen.8 and 9 indicate a third method of connecting the opposite flaps to one another in such a way that their mutual longitudinal movement is prevented, which is achieved here without connecting them to the reinforcing parts. The brackets DD are provided with ordinary flanges and the oblique bolts ff pass through cuts in their flanges, thus avoiding their longitudinal movement with respect to the sleepers. The reinforcement parts are not as long as the brackets, but are formed by angles EE , which are intended to press the brackets firmly against the rails.
In Fig. 9 one of the reinforcement members or angles E is omitted to show the notched flange on the flap below it.
It will easily be seen that in the construction shown in Figures 1 through 7 the tab can be omitted if the reinforcing members E are shaped to fit into the rails and are made of machined metal, or if they are otherwise given sufficient strength in order to enable them to withstand the tension to which tabs are usually subjected.
