Abstract
Description
Küvette und Vorrichtung zu ihrem Gebrauch Cuvette and device for its use
The present invention relates to a cuvette, i. i.e., a glass container with plane-parallel walls. When filled with a liquid, a layer of liquid is created certain thickness through which light rays can be passed. The measure the attenuation of these light rays when they pass through, for example with Liquid mixed with color (the attenuation by the glass of the cuvette itself is taken into account as a constant) denotes the light absorption of the liquid . The attenuated rays from any light source become expediently measured with the help of a photocell. The one emitted by the photocell Stress can be recorded over time, so when the fluid flows more or less evenly through the cuvette and in its absorption capacity is variable. The measuring range of the photocell is limited and much smaller than the possible range of variation in light absorption. This is taken into account by when a limit of the measuring range is reached (which is indicated by an alarm device can be replaced) the cuvette by another one with a greater or lesser path length is replaced depending on whether the absorption capacity of the liquid has decreased or has risen.
This exchange of the cuvettes is cumbersome and particularly annoying, if a continuous measuring process has to be interrupted as a result.
The object of the present invention is one in several measuring ranges equally usable cuvette, as well as a device with which to use This cuvette is the process of switching the measuring range when measuring the light absorption can be automated in liquids.
To solve this problem it is proposed that the cuvette over their length has distributed areas with different clear cross-sections, wherein in a special embodiment of the invention, the clear cross-section is gradual changes. Such a cuvette to a certain extent combines several of the known cuvettes in itself and can be easily moved in its holder with the area the desired layer thickness in the beam path between the light source and Photocell are brought. The flow of the liquid under investigation through the cuvette does not need to be interrupted.
Using the cuvette according to the invention, a device for determining the light absorption of liquids according to a further feature the invention to the effect that they are equipped with a device for discontinuous displacement of the cuvette in the longitudinal direction by one cross-sectional step at a time is provided. This device can consist of an electromotive, linear acting Drive exist.
In a further refinement, one of these is provided with a photocell Apparatus is proposed that the device for moving the cuvette by the photo cell when certain upper or lower limit values of the Incidence of light in the direction of larger resp.
kleineren Querschnitts der Küvette selbsttätig steuerbar ist. Die Umschaltung in den nächsten Meßbereich erfolgt so automatisch, indem eine Flüssigkeitsschicht anderer Dicke in den Strahlengang geschoben wird.smaller cross-section of the cuvette is automatically controllable. the Switching to the next measuring range takes place automatically by adding a layer of liquid other thickness is pushed into the beam path.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawing, namely, Figure 1 shows the view A of Figure 2 and Figure 2 is a corresponding section the line BC of Figure 1.
A cuvette 1 is in z. B. three areas 2, 3 4 with continuously growing Wall thickness divided on two opposite sides. The transition from one Wall thickness to the other is gradual. The one remaining inside the cuvette This creates empty space that can be filled with liquid from area to Area more restricted, in particular the layer thickness of the liquid between the thickened walls less and less. The cuvette 1 is with an inflow 5 and a Drain 6 provided through which the liquid to be examined, for. B. an aqueous one or alcoholic solution of dye flows. The light absorbency of the Liquid is measured by the light emanating from a light source 7 through Collimators 8 bundled by one of the areas (here area 3) of the cuvette 1, where it is optionally filtered in a filter 9 on a photocell 10 hits. The one from the Photo cell 10 output voltage is in a registration unit 15 not described in more detail in its temporal course recorded. The cuvette 1 is mounted on a carriage 11 which is guided in guides 16 slides.
The shift is carried out by turning a screw spindle 12, which optionally driven in one or the other direction of rotation by a gear motor 13 will.
The gear motor 13 is also controlled by a the photocell 10 connected control unit 14, which, among other things, limit value transmitter having.
If the transparency of the liquid flowing through the cuvette 1 decreases, the intensity of the light incident on the photocell 10 also decreases. At the When a lower limit value is reached, the control unit 14 responds and starts the gear motor 13 in a certain direction of rotation and for a certain, before specified period of time. The screw spindle 12, which is thereby set in rotation, pulls the slide so (in the figure 2 upwards) that the area 4 of the cuvette 1 with its only small liquid layer thickness between the light source 7 and the Photo cell 10 is brought. Conversely, when the transparency of the liquid increases the voltage of the photocell 10 has an upper limit value, whereupon the control unit 14 the gear motor 13 starts in the opposite direction of rotation. The sled will be like this pushed in the opposite direction (in the figure 2 down), whereby the area 2 of the cuvette 1 with its large liquid layer thickness for the measurement is used.
