According to the invention, in a purely mechanical (not photomechanical) way of a relief-like original image, rasterized relief printing plates can be produced. It happens on the way of stereotype with the help of a pliable grid sheet.
Nach einer, amerikanischen Erfindung hat man auch schon von ungerasterten Urbildern auf dem Wege über die Stereotypie gerasterteAccording to an American invention, one already has non-screened archetypes rasterized on the way over the stereotype
ίο Hochdruckplatten herstellen wollen.
Zunächst und zumeist also
Farbplatten nach ausgeschnittene Pappstücke o. dgl.ίο want to produce high pressure plates. For this purpose, ■ the die cardboard should first be given a grid-like pre-compression and then the impression of the non-grid original. It is clear, however, that in this way a rasterized set-off at the pressure points cannot be achieved, since of course by pressing in smooth-surfaced writing or the like, the raster pressure of the die board is pressed smoothly and canceled. What is achieved in reality is, at best, a full-surface print on a screened ground, namely when the screened original has just been pressed in so far that the ground is also printed.
The archetype can be anything that can be stereotypically stereotyped. First and foremost, type sets or letterpress plates of any kind. With these, one should first think of non-screened relief printing plates, because the main purpose of the invention is to dissolve the full closed surface of the original image, to pattern it, to make it appear more matt (half-tone) in the print. However, rasterized relief printing plates can also be archetypes if the rasterization needs to be changed, in particular to be coarsened, in order to enable printing on smaller paper. Furthermore, lace, tulle and gauze fabrics, etc. can be used. can be used as a prototype, in the case of two-dimensional original drawings, the contours of the individual color plates after cut-out pieces of cardboard or the like.
The pliable grid sheet can be made of wire gauze, a copper sheet produced by electroplating, but also made of woven fabrics, and not just mesh-like or gauze-like (such as silk gauze, Congress fabric), linen wall and other tightly woven fabrics can also be used. So has z. B. with a diagonal cheviot a nicely patterned, semitone-like one Printing of large typefaces results, which under the same circumstances, printed over the entire surface, are irregular would have turned out gray and cloudy. The process can also be conducted in such a way that both unscreened and unscreened from the matrix obtained how screened casts can be obtained.
DieThe method is now to be explained in more detail by describing some types of application or execution. Serves as a prototype a type set, the pliable grid sheet is placed directly on the font, on top of it a few sheets of tissue paper (so-called Indian silk), suitably with layers of paste in between, and finally a sheet of cardboard. It is in the moist condition in the beaten in the usual way, depending on the circumstances, after all of the molds have been placed Layers' or each layer individually. the
But you get instead of a full-surface Cast a gridded or patterned cast, whereby of course the type, structure and degree of fineness of the grid sheet determine the character of the grid or pattern. In the same The way things are done, if after woodcuts, line etchings and after all non-screened printing blocks or printing plates
ίο gearbeitet wird.ίο is being worked.
This is different with screened printing plates. First a sheet of Indian silk paper is placed on it, moistened, sprinkled a thin layer of die flour, again tissue paper applied and moistened. These positions can be struck weakly. Only now will The pliable grid sheet is placed on top, coated with paste and moistened with the moistened one Matrix cardboard covered. After that there is a lot of beating. The recesses of the die will be now filled in a known manner with a plastic mass. The filling compound becomes Level balanced and covered with paper. During the drying and pressing of the die In the drying oven, it is advisable to tighten the press more often and all in one keep strong pressure. Due to the abutment offered by the filling compound comes the grid sheet comes into its own, although it does not directly touch the printing plates, but is separated from them by the tissue paper paste layer. It would be obvious to place the grid sheet directly on the printing form, in which case it should be Of course, it would be safe to take effect without further ado. But then your own grid would be the printing form contradict that of the raster sheet; it would mostly be a a confused, unclear picture emerges. The covering of the grid sheet, which is always considerable coarser than the archetype will be gridded, causes a softening of its own graticule effect, but at the same time also a softening of the grid effect of the archetype, since the blows act through the grid sheet when the die is hit or when the pressure is applied have to. The blows or the pressure differentiate naturally in the way that the present tissue paper layer in the area of the threads, ribs or other projections of the grid sheet sharper, considerably lighter in the gaps - if at all - is pressed.
So much for the type of procedure just described with embedding the grid sheet a piece of woven fabric is used as a pliable grid sheet in the matrix layers, it should be noted that the embedding of woven fabric inserts between the matrix layers is increasing is known, but not yet for the present purpose of achieving rasterized Casts was practiced. So far, the woven fabric insert has only served to strengthen it the die, and it was determined by the choice of woven fabric and the type of embedding of course carefully avoided, the structure of the woven fabric insert in the imprint somehow to appear.
In the case of points and the like as the archetype, one proceeds in a known manner in so far as the structure glued to a mater composed of layers of tissue paper and matrix cardboard, the The whole thing is placed with the structure down on a flat plate and subjected to pressing will. According to the present invention, the Grid sheet switched on. With regard to the execution, it should be noted that it is expedient works with a less moist matrix.
The method also enables the reproduction of planar drawings, e.g. B. colored Posters. These are succinct, generous drawings, evenly created patches of area with strong outlines. Proceed as follows for each color, using black (dark) outlines of lighter areas of the black (dark) color plate. Man cuts the z. B. areas to be reproduced in black (consequently also the mentioned Outlines as stripes) in cardboard as faithfully as possible and glued them to one with the Underlay provided with drawing contours, or you can lift the upper one out of laminated cardboard Cardboard layer except for the surface pieces to be reproduced in black. In both Cases one obtains a relief suitable as a prototype, which is described in the above for type set Way can be stereotyped. The same applies of course to the other colors of the original drawing. This form of application des process opens up the possibility of large-area posters and the like with low To reproduce the costs and the little time required for the preparation in letterpress. You save the costly etching and also save a lot of printing ink.
DieIf one wants to 0 can be prepared men matrices from which both casts with a closed surface as well as castings with gridded surface genomic n, so the procedure is substantially as described above with reference to stereotyping autotypical printing plates. So you don't put the pliable grid sheet directly on the printing form, but rather a few Indian silk sheets with paste in between. But one omits pasting the grid sheet, which comes to lie loosely between the tissue paper layer and the die board. The use of the filling compound described above to level the die board is also recommended here. the
