Cartridge with a grease coating on its case and the projectile. Patented in the German Empire on November 23, 1912.
It has already been proposed to use cartridges for self-loading weapons and especially for machine guns to facilitate ejection after the shot and prevent jamming To be provided in the cartridge chamber with a grease coating of low internal resistance and for this purpose lubricating oil, ointment-like Substances, wax and stearin made famous. According to the invention, opposites low internal coatings compared to these soft or low-melting coatings Resistance those made of refractory fatty materials used with ordinary Temperature are hard and lacquer-like, but due to the heat generated when shooting melt easily and provide an oily liquid that promotes gliding.
These bodies can be made up of mixtures of different materials, such as refractory Paraffin, ceresin, waxes, fats, asphalt and tar products, or it can be one applied by these bodies alone.
Um den Schmelzpunkt zu erniedrigen, kannTo lower the melting point, can
man der Masse auch flüssige Öle beimischen, jedoch nur so viel, daß das Material bei gewöhnlicher Temperatur vollkommen starr und hart bleibt.you can also add liquid oils to the mass, but only so much that the material is more common Temperature remains completely rigid and hard.
The unfavorable smoke development that occurs with machine guns, the cause of which is in the cartridge lubrication with oil, when using a cartridge cover from the specified substances should be avoided completely, as these substances at the high temperature that the rifle assumes it will melt, but does not produce any smoke. Also the soiling of the cartridge chamber that has occurred with bullet dipping, which has been common up to now and the cartridge pouch becomes, with the present composition, the cartridge cover avoided. As a practically excellent composition of such a coating mass has a mixture of 70 parts of the component of the carnauba wax which melts at 75 ° with 20 parts of ceresin and 10 parts of beeswax.
