Description
KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
The well-known carillons made up of a number of bells of different sizes usually have a harsh sound. According to the invention takes place while playing one rotation of the bells takes place, whereby a soft sound is to be achieved.
Auf der Zeichnung ist ein der Erfindung entsprechendes Glockenspiel dargestellt; es zeigt: Fig. ι einen Grundriß undIn the drawing, a glockenspiel corresponding to the invention is shown; it shows: Fig. Ι a plan and
ίο Fig. 2 einen Längsschnitt.ίο Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section.
The bells a , tuned according to the scale, are mounted in two groups on a common shaft b and are kept at the given distance from each other by pieces of pipe c and insulating washers d placed on the latter. The shaft b is mounted horizontally in two brackets f attached to a base plate e , in such a way that it can be rotated easily. At some distance from the shaft b , a slightly higher plate g is mounted parallel to the same, which is supported by columns h fastened to the base plate e and is provided in the middle with an upwardly protruding pin i . In the plate g on the front edge, namely to the right and left of its center, two-armed levers I, adapted to the bells α, are mounted with hammers k , the inner end formed as a nose m through slots η provided in the middle of the plate g go up through it and be pressed by springs 0 against a perforated note disc q placed on the pin i and held in place by a bracket fi. The circumference of the note disc q is provided with teeth in which a gear wheel s engages. The shaft r of this wheel s to be driven by means of a hand crank t is connected to the shaft b by a cord gear u, v, w , so that when the shaft r rotates, both the note disc q and the shaft b together with the bells a sitting on it Rotation. Since during this process the hammers also move at the same time as the lever lugs jump into the holes in the note disc q , the bells a are made to ring during their rotation. By turning the bells, the sound waves are to be distributed evenly in the air space under a certain pressure and thus an intimate fusion of the tones and thus a soft, harmonious sound are achieved.
Instead of bells, other suitable, mechanically rotatable sound bodies can also be used will. It should also be noted that the game in question is advantageous for accompaniment can be used by other musical instruments, and vice versa as an accompaniment Other sound bodies (than strings and reeds) are also used for the glockenspiel can be.
