Abstract

The disinfecting device for telephone handsets, particularly those in use in the public telephone network, comprises two rings of cardboard or plastic between which is sandwiched a filter membrane. The filter is constructed from several layers of filter paper or other material which is impregnated with a germicidal fluid and given a special coating to arrest drying-out. The filter assembly is attached to the telephone handset earpiece or microphone by means of a self-adhesive strip around the support ring. An alternative construction uses perforated disc of card or plastic between which is located the active filter membrane. The disinfectant membrane assembly can be removed and renewed from time to time as required.
