Process for the preparation of 2-acrylamido-sulfonic acids 2-acrylamido-sulfonic acids
are known and can, for example, by the method of US Pat
506 707 can be prepared in a two-step reaction by first one
Olefin which has at least one hydrogen atom in the allyl position with an acyl hydrogen sulfate
to a sulfonated intermediate, which is then reacted with water and acrylonitrile
reacts further in the presence of sulfuric acid to form the acrylamido-sulfonic acid. as
Olefins are e.g. propylene, butene-1, octene, -methylstyrene and methacrylic acid methyl ester
called, as acyl hydrogen sulfates e.g. reaction products of sulfuric acid with acetic acid
or acetic anhydride. In this known process, however, the yields
much to be desired, for example, according to the information in Example 1
this US patent only 65% of theory, according to the information in Example 6 only
52% of theory of 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-propane-1-sulfonic acid.
Formel I
Überschuß an Acrylnitril soll vorzugsweise mindestens 1,5 Mol je Mol Olefin betragen,
Octen-1, Deren-1, Dodecen-1, Styrol, -Methylstyrol, p-Chlorstyrol in Frage.
In another process for the preparation of 2-acrylamido sulfonic acids, a nitrile and an olefin are reacted in fuming sulfuric acid at temperatures between -30 and + 4EO, the amount of sulfur trioxide in the range of a catalytic amount of up to about 0.5 mol of sulfur trioxide per mol of olefin , but in any case can be significantly less than the equimolar amount. In this process, the solvent used is excess nitrile, in which the reaction products are insoluble. They can therefore be separated off directly from the reaction mixture by filtration. According to the information in Example 1 of US Pat. No. 3,544,597, a yield of 85.5% of theory (based on the isobutylene used in deficit) is obtained from acrylonitrile and isobutylene at -20 to -30 ° C. using 30% of an oleum ), the melting point of the product being 200 to 2020C (with decomposition). According to the information given in Example 6 of this US patent document, the reaction of acrylonitrile with p-chlorostyrene using 30% oleum at a reaction temperature of +5 to + 100C gives a yield of 78% of theory of 2-acrylamido- 2-p-chlorophenylethanesulfonic acid. These high yields of 2-acrylamdio-sulfonic acids could not be reproduced, on the contrary, if one works according to the information in Example 1 of US Pat. No. 3,544,597, a yield of only 63% is obtained. For the reaction of acrylonitrile with tetradecene-1 and 65% strength oleum at 0 ° to 50 ° C., in Example 8 of US Pat. No. 3,544,597, a yield of 94 g, that is 34% of theory, has been found 2-Acrylamido-2-alkylsulfonic acids by reacting olefins of the general formula I. in which R and R1 each denote hydrogen and / or 1 to 20 carbon atoms or a phenyl group with excess acrylonitrile at low temperature with addition of oleum, washing out the 2-acrylamido-2-alkylsulfonic acid with an inert solvent and drying can be produced with advantage if the reaction is carried out at OOC and 10 to 20% oleum is used. The excess of acrylonitrile should preferably be at least 1.5 moles per mole of olefin. The olefins for the new process include ethylene, propylene, butene-1 , Hexene-1> Octene-1, Deren-1, Dodecene-1, styrene, -Methylstyrene, p-chlorostyrene in question. Monoolefins with 3 to 5 carbon atoms, in particular propylene, are of particular interest.
In Frage kommt ferner
Torr. Thus, in the method according to the application, an optimal exploitation
on 2-acrylamino-sulfonic acid is achieved> it is necessary that the reaction temperature
is kept at OOC during the reaction of the olefin at 2 2 ° C, In addition, is
the optimum yield is not achieved even if the temperature is strictly adhered to,
if oleum is used, the concentration of which is below 10% or above 20%.
The amount of oleum should generally be 0.8 to 3 moles per mole (olefin) preferably
0.9 to 1.2 moles per mole of olefin. In the case of the procedure, the
2-acrylamido sulfonic acid
from the acrylonitrile used in excess and can easily be filtered off
be separated from the reaction mixture for washing the 2-acrylamido-sulfonic acid
is used as the inert solvent, for example acetonitrile or low
Boiling gasoline fractions with a boiling range from 30 to 1000C. Another question is
Acetone, mixtures of gasoline with 5 to 20% by weight of methanol, and tetrahydrofuran.
Since the 2-acrylamido-sulfonic acids are easily decomposable in substance, their takes place
Drying generally at temperatures between 20 to 40 ° C. under reduced
Pressure, preferably at pressures between 0.1 to 50, in particular from 10 to 30
Torr.

sich auf das Gewicht.Refer to the parts and percentages given in the following examples
focus on the weight.
