Patentiert im Deutschen Reiche vom 5. März 1911 ab.Patented in the German Empire on March 5, 1911.
Nachbehandlung unterworfen wird,The subject of the present invention is a new process for the production of electrical conductive bodies, for example collector carbon for electrical machines and the like.
The manufacturing process according to the present invention is characterized in that graphite is intimately mixed with a metal of the iron group and this mixture is subjected to a suitable aftertreatment,
Die so erhaltene Masse wird durchίο to the mass of their later use to be able to shape accordingly. The metal used is expediently in the form of finely divided graphite Mixed in with metal oxide, which is also in a finely divided state, whereupon the Mixture is exposed to a high temperature. The mass thus obtained is through
■ Druck in beliebige geeignete Formen gebracht, wozu kein zusätzliches Bindemittel erforderlieh ist, da die Masse die Fähigkeit, sich fest miteinander zu verbinden, selbst besitzt.■ Print brought into any suitable shape, for which no additional binding agent is required is because the mass has the ability to bond firmly to one another by itself.
This mixture is carried out, for example, in such a way that 100 parts of the graphite, which has been thoroughly purified by any process, are intimately mixed with 50 parts of an iron oxide in finely powdered form. For example, common iron oxide Fe 2 O 3 or any other iron oxide, for example iron oxide Fe z 0 it, can be used for this mixture. Instead of iron oxides, nickel oxides or, more generally, metal oxides of the iron group can also be used. However, iron is preferred because of its cheapness and because it gives good results. The ratios given above are only intended to represent examples and do not need to be strictly adhered to, but can vary as desired depending on the desired properties of the finished composition. A higher percentage of iron reduces the conductivity of the mass, but slightly increases its strength and resistance.
This mixture is heated to approximately 900 ° in graphite crucibles and suitable ovens. As a result of this treatment, the iron oxide is reduced to metallic iron, which is again binds and mixes well with the graphite, so it's hard to tell in what shape the iron will find in the mass after the process has ended. After this treatment, the mixture is brought into suitable shapes using a sufficiently high pressure. as For example, 3 tons per square centimeter of pressure are used. The pressure however, will also vary widely according to the products.
Should the method according to the present invention be used, for example, for brushing collector machines or the like. Use, the mixture is expedient in itself known way subjected to such a pressure that the resistance in the brush transverse to the direction of the collector is greater than perpendicular to this direction, whereby the short-circuited brush makes the passage of the current much more difficult or prevents it.
The finished brushes are very resistant, significantly harder than graphite and have a greater conductivity than carbon brushes.
