Natürliches oder künstliches schwefelsaures Strontium wird durch Glühen mit Kohle oder organischen Stoffen in bekannter Weise reducirt. Nach dem Erkalten wird durch systematisches Auslaugen in geschlossenen Gefäfsen eine Lösung von Schwefelstrontium erhalten. Mit derselben werden die zur Gewinnung von Papierfaser geeigneten Rohstoffe (Stroh,. Pflanzenfaser und namentlich Holz), nach vorangegangener Zerkleinerung in eisernen Gefäfsen bei einer Temperatur, welche einer Dampfspannung von 6 bis 10 Atmosphären entspricht, 6 bis 8 Stunden lang erhitzt.
