Abstract

The safety mattress which is to prevent suffocation of babies lying on their stomachs comprises a block of foam material which is hollowed out in the upper third which is then covered by a fine-mesh net or similar material which is held taut by means of a wooden or plastics frame which is fitted round the mattress. This net covered with suitable porous cotton wool or synthetic fibre material allows the circulation of air so that there is always sufficient air in the hollow beneath the baby's head to prevent suffocation. Furthermore should the baby be sick this can also pass through to the cavity below which again prevents another cause of suffocation. A displaceable foam block can be mounted in the lower third above the mattress to prevent the baby from crawling down inside the bed clothes.

The invention relates to a new mattress which prevents infants, Small children or sick people suffocate in the prone position.

Again and again, year after year, babies suffocate in the doctors recommended Prone position.

To remedy this, I propose the following invention novel safety mattress: a foam block is placed in the upper third ausgehöhit (see drawing 1).

A frame made of wood or plastic is then placed around this foam block, the one in the upper third with a close-knit network made of cotton or synthetic fiber material is covered. (See drawing 2) will be over the bottom two-thirds of the frame a commercial cotton fabric stretched. Both can be used for cleaning purposes decrease.

This frame with the net and fabric stretched over it is now over put the foam block inside out.

Also can, which is very often the case with sick and thus weakened children is the case, vomit down through the mesh drain, thus preventing the risk of suffocation.

To give the whole thing another safety factor, Depending on the size of the child, a foam block with commercially available foam is placed in the lower third Velcro fastener attached, which prevents the child from going down under the duvet can crawl. (See drawing 4)
