Description
The invention relates to a matrix of algae, a method for producing such a matrix and the use of the matrix to extract uranium dissolved in seawater.
The previously known processes for extracting uranium from seawater are based either on the principle of extraction in countercurrent, chemical precipitation, deposition, or the Exchange of ions or flotation. With all measures belonging to the known state of the art however, it was necessary to use chemicals. That has the disadvantage that in general large quantities of chemicals had to be used, with the further disadvantage that the cost of the material consumption were relatively large and that only with great effort or at all pollution of the environment that cannot be removed has occurred. Another disadvantage of these processes is that that a large amount of energy is required to carry them out, since the uranium is in the sea water as a whole in large amount but in an extremely low concentration.
The object of the invention is to form a matrix and to do this without damaging the environment can occur to use to extract uranium dissolved in seawater, with the use The matrix for extracting uranium from seawater does not require any energy, which is economical Expenses required.
This object is achieved by means of the aforementioned matrix according to the invention in that the matrix of uranium accustomed mutants suitable for uptake of uranium dissolved in seawater is formed. It has proven to be particularly advantageous to use a matrix that consists of single-celled Green algae is formed.
A preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention is that the matrix in a filter cage with at least two opposing walls formed from sieves, which for Seawater is permeable and impermeable to the mutants, is arranged. The mesh size of the for the sieves used must be smaller than the cell size of the mutants forming the matrix. Hence the cell size of the algae forming the matrix should be around 50 to 100 μ.
It has proven to be useful that the algae are placed in a sterilized solution of 3.8 g of sea salt, 0.03 g of NH 4 NO 3 and 5 ml of earth extracts in 100 ml of water, adjusted to pH 6 Uranium in the form of uranyl nitrate is entered gradually until the amount of uranium is enriched to 250 mg / 1, whereupon the algae are subjected to X-ray irradiation in a further process step, the dose of which is around 50 kR and the algae are then poured onto agar plates, which are below Using a solution consisting of 3.8 g of sea salt, 0.03 g of NH-fNOi and 5 ml of earth extracts in 100 ml of water, whereupon the colonies formed individually in a further process step

abgeimpft und in einer Nährlösung der vorbezeichneten Zusammensetzung weiterkultiviert werden.be inoculated and further cultivated in a nutrient solution of the aforementioned composition.
In order to extract uranium from the sea water, a flow of sea water is passed through the matrix formed according to the invention. Another variant according to the invention of extracting uranium from seawater provides that the matrix arranged in a filter cage is arranged in a sea area subject to the tidal flow in such a way that the currents caused by ebb and flow are passed through the filter cage surrounding the matrix. The total cross-section of the matrix should be around 100m 2 , so that at the average flow velocity in seawater near the coast due to the tides, a flow rate of 10 6 tonnes of seawater per day is achieved through the cage. The uranium is separated from the matrix using one of the conventional methods, for example by extraction using tributyl phosphate.
