Abstract

The retaining disc at the lower end of a ski stick is replaced by a collapsible structure which is made from two star shaped plastic discs. The ends of the disc spokes are joined so that they are free to hinge. The centre hub of the upper disc is fixed to the stick whilst the lower disc is free to move axially. A compression spring keeps the two discs apart so that a slim line ski stick with low drag resistance is obtained. When snow pressure acts on the lower disc, the spring is compressed thus an umbrella-like retainer ring is formed. Preferably the fold contours of the plastic discs follow a concertina-like pattern.
