Abstract

The number and spacing of the teeth on the comb correspond to those of the slides on the slide rail. Each tooth has a thinner and therefore weakened region near its base to facilitate its separation from the body of the comb. By removing certain teeth, the required tabulation can be created and put into operation by inserting the comb into an opening in the front panel of the typewriter. The ends of the comb comprise enlarged guide teeth with inclined leading edges to facilitate its insertion into the panel opening. A scale on the comb face coincides with the position indicator scale on the typewriter. The main body of the comb has a roughened area on which details of the tabulating programme can be written.
