Method and device for cleaning support rollers

The present invention relates to the cleaning of support rollers in particular, but not exclusively, for the support rollers supporting the carpet web in the steam section of a printing machine for carpets.

In printing machines for carpets, the carpet is printed with different colors, and the colors are then fixed in that the carpet web moves continuously through a steam chamber.

accepted. A horizontal steam chamber is useful because the printed colors are less likely to wander if the carpet lies in the horizontal plane when steaming. The required length at a reasonable conveyor speed of the carpet is, for example, about 45 m, which is difficult to accommodate without taking up an excessively large floor area.

It has therefore already been proposed to provide a horizontal railway line of about 3 to 6 m in length with subsequent garland or zigzag formation in order to create the possibility of dampening the carpet for a sufficient time for the color fixation. However, a printed carpet cannot be looped satisfactorily and it is therefore necessary to provide a steam chamber approximately 22 m in length through which the carpet passes twice. This means that the carpet must run upside down on support rollers on its way back. When steaming, not all of the applied color material is normally completely set, with the result that a certain fraction of free color material is carried along on the surface of the carpet. It has been found that this ink settles on the support rollers as the carpet rewinds and can cause marks on subsequent sections of the carpet.
