Gewisse Alizarinfarbstoffe, wie Alizarinrot, -rosa und -orange, konnten seither nur in der Weise gedruckt werden, daß man sie auf mit Türkischrotöl vorbehandelte Ware aufbrachte. Diese Vorbehandlung veranlaßt eine außerordentliche Verteuerung und Mehrarbeit, so daß man schon durch eine Reihe von Vorschlägen das Verfahren zu vereinfachen suchte. Unter anderem wurde versucht, das Türkischrotöl den Druckfarben zuzusetzen; doch erwies sich dies als praktisch nicht durchführbar, da dabei die Lackbildung bereits in der Druckfarbe eintrat und so farbschwache und wenig echte Drucke erhalten wurden. Bei Zusatz freier Säuren wurde zwar die Lackbildung in der Druckfarbe vermieden, aber die Drucke erreichten nicht die Lebhaftigkeit der Drucke auf vorgeölte Ware.
