Description
The invention relates generally to a mandrel for piercing pipe blocks, and more particularly relates to one composite mandrel which is designed in such a way that it has very good strength properties at high temperatures and in particular has good impact resistance.
The front end or the tip must be here of the mandrel wear and after punching a certain number of blocks appear along the surface of the mandrel more or less deep cracks or breaks. 'When such a mandrel is considered suitable for its intended use is to be, it must make it possible to punch a larger number of Eohrblocks one after the other without the mandrel tip wears or cracks to such an extent that the mandrel

I am a thorn from a Alloy that is suitable for punching pipe blocks made of hard steel, e.g. a steel for ball bearings in many cases when punching blocks made of softer steels prove to be extremely unsuitable, as it can lead to wears out quickly. On the other hand, a mandrel that is well suited for punching blocks made of softer steels may be found in some Prove inexpedient in cases where blocks of harder steels are to be punched. Especially big Difficulties arise with respect to the wear of the dome when punching blocks of soft steels when the The rolling temperature of the blocks is around 1200 to 1250 ° C, because at these temperatures there is a risk of the mandrel tip wearing out too quickly. The alloys that make up Arbors for punching or rolling harder steels are therefore not suitable for punching or! Malting softer Steels of the type mentioned, since these alloys do not have sufficient strength at high temperatures.
The invention is now based on the object to avoid the difficulties mentioned above and to create a piercing plug or roller plug which, in comparison to known thorns or plugs at high temperatures has better strength properties, in particular has good shock resistance, and by means of which blanks for drilling in large numbers are perforated one after the other or let it roll as it is possible up to now. The mandrel according to the invention is characterized in particular by that it has a main body made of a certain alloy, with a welded tip made of a Alloy with a low carbon content is provided, which has a particularly high strength at high temperatures owns.
In each of the four examples described below, tubing made of mild steel was made using the Mannesmann process processed into tubes and initially perforated for this purpose. The blank in question was then a progressive screwing movement granted, while the stationary mandrel served to along the axis of the blank a to train central opening. In all cases the blanks consisted of a mild steel containing 0.17% carbon, Contained 0.30% silicon and 1.5% manganese, while the remainder consisted of iron and the usual impurities. the Blanks had a total length of 2400 mm and the largest mandrel diameter was 52 mm. The piercing or rolling temperature was between 1200 and 1230 ° C, and the blanks were processed using a stationary mandrel » In each case the mandrel was used until it was considered worn out. Between each two on top of each other following operations, the mandrel was cooled with water to a temperature of about 300 C, and there were carried out two work cycles per limit.

Molybdenum, 5jO% tungsten, 1.5% iron and the remainder the Alloys with low nickel content common impurities. With the help of such mandrels, blanks of the above said type processed until the mandrel was considered worn out, and it turned out that it was possible was to punch 134 to 165 blanks with the help of a mandrel. After punching 165 blanks, the relevant mandrel was cut, ground and etched; the history of the cut surfaces can be seen from FIG. Fig. 3 shows at a the reproduction of photographs of the cut surfaces. From "this representation it can be seen that the mandrel tip was worn to a certain extent, and that the mandrel had only a few but deep cracks.
Several mandrels were made from an alloy containing 0.25% carbon, 0.40% silicon, 0.90% manganese, Contained 29.0% chromium, 5 »5% molybdenum and 1.0% iron, while the remainder was cobalt and the impurities common in alloys with low cobalt content were present. The mandrels made from this alloy proved to be useful when punching harder steel, e.g., of ball bearing steel, as useful, but experiments have shown To punch blanks from the above-mentioned mild steel that this alloy was not suitable for this purpose. With the help of such a mandrel, only 14 to 40 blanks could be punched, until the mandrel was due to its wear and tear had become unusable. After 40 blanks had been punched, the mandrel was cut, ground and etched. Here it showed that the tip of the spike was worn and the mandrel had become unusable.
Diese Legierung hat sich als zum Lochen von Rohteilen, die z.B. aus Kugellager-Several mandrels were made from an alloy having substantially the same composition as the alloy mentioned in Example 2, but which had a lower carbon content. stahl bestehen, als besonders geeignet erwiesen. The alloy contained 0.03% carbon, 0.41% silicon, 0.91% Manganese, 28.8% chromium, 0.3% winding, 4.7% molybdenum and 0.45% Iron, while the remainder was cobalt, with the impurities common in such alloys being present was. After punching 25 blanks, these mandrels had to be regarded as worn; such a thorn was in cut, sanded and etched in the manner described. It was found that the tip of the mandrel was severely worn would have. It was found that only 16 to 25 blanks could be punched with the help of these mandrels.
A mandrel was produced which had a main body cast from the alloy according to Example 3, and that by way of build-up welding with a tip the alloy according to Example 1 was provided. It turned out that with the help of this compound Dorns was able to punch 196 blanks until the mandrel had to be considered worn out. After punching The mandrel was cut, ground and etched in 196 blanks according to the preceding examples. lig. 2 shows the reproduction of a photograph of the cut surface of this mandrel, from which it can be seen that the mandrel support is essentially was intact, while the main body of the mandrel showed several cracks of shallow depth. In Fig. 3 are at b Photographs of the cut surfaces of this thorn are reproduced, from which it can be seen that this thorn is more numerous Has cracks than the mandrel shown at a; however, these cracks are fewer in the case of the mandrel shown at b deep, which has a beneficial effect on the useful life of the mandrel.
The results of the four examples described above are summarized in the following table.

From the table above and the figures it can be seen that with the aid of a mandrel made from the alloy according to Example 1 it is possible to punch 134 to 165 blanks of a certain type, but that the mandrel then has very pronounced, deep surface cracks. The table also shows that "with the aid of a mandrel made from the alloy according to Example 3, it is only possible to punch 16 to 25 blanks until the mandrel has become unusable due to wear. Furthermore, the table and the figures It can be seen that a mandrel body made of the alloy according to Example 3, which has been provided with a welded-on tip made of the alloy according to Example 1, enables no fewer than 196 hollow parts to be punched until the mandrel has become unusable the parts a and b of Fig. 3 5 it can be seen that although the composite mandrel having a greater number of surface cracks that, however, these are ßisse less deep than in a mandrel that consists exclusively of the alloy according to the example 1 enables addition. the composite mandrel can punch at least 20% more blanks than is possible with the aid of the mandrel according to example 1. Both the main body of the mandrel made from the alloy according to de In example 3, as well as its tip made from the alloy according to example 1, has a very low carbon content of 0.03%. Thus, the strength required at high temperatures is achieved in that the main body made of the alloy according to Example 3 is provided with a welded-on tip made of the alloy according to Example 1, although with the aid of a mandrel made entirely of the alloy according to the example 1, only allow the usual results to be achieved. The composite mandrel according to the invention thus makes it possible to achieve a combination effect which differs considerably from the partial effects of the individual components or their sum.
