Description

Die Erfindung betrifft einen elektrischen Steckverbinder gemäß Oberbegriff des Patentanspruchs I.The invention relates to an electrical connector according to the preamble of claim I.
The word connector is used here to refer to both the connector part to be inserted and the receiving part Include connector part of a connector.
Claim 1 corresponding connector is known in which the two rows of contact elements are arranged on two concentric circular paths. The wire connection parts of the individual contacts are designed for soldered connections to the lead wires to be connected. It is very complex and time consuming to make all the soldered connections between the individual contacts and the individual lead wires. For a simultaneous connection of a larger number of lead wires to the associated contact elements of this connector, as would be desirable for mass production, there is no satisfactory possibility.
The invention is based on the object of providing an electrical connector of the type specified at the beginning To make available, the simultaneous safe connection of a larger number of lead wires to the assigned contact elements in a simple manner Way, without dangerous forces are exerted on the insulating housing of the connector when connecting the lead wires.
The solution to this problem is specified in claim 1 and can be advantageously developed in accordance with the subclaims.
Characterized in that the contact elements in two superimposed parallel rows on one of the Housing protruding support wall are arranged freely accessible, there is the possibility of a Lead wire insertion device for inserting a large number of lead wires into the wire receiving slots of each of them at the same time Use contact elements. Since the contact elements are arranged on both sides of the support wall, the Pressing the many lead wires into the wire receiving slots of the individual contact elements is the same Forces exerted on the support wall from both sides, so that the exerted on the support wall on both sides Cancel connection forces. Also comes when connecting a large number of individual lead wires it therefore does not result in a pressure helmet. the A Breaking away part of the insulating housing could result.
A particularly noteworthy area of application for The new connector is to connect the individual wires of telephone cables.
Zugkraft nachteilig auswirken derart, daß sich die Leitungsdrähte wiederAn electrical connector in which the individual Head of a multi-core ribbon cable into the wire receiving slots of the individual contact elements at the same time can be depressed is known from US Pat. No. 3,189,863. By pressing together two essentially plate-like housing parts, between which the ribbon cable to be connected is arranged. will the pressed individual conductors into the associated wire slots of the contact elements. When the conductor is pushed into the wire receiving slots, it occurs to a one-sided pressure load on the housing part holding the contacts. This housing part must therefore be dimensioned so that it can withstand this one-sided pressure load. In addition, the direction is in which the lead wires are pressed into the wire holder slot / s of the associated contacts, in the longitudinal direction of the contacts. If these contacts at the ends opposite the wire receiving slots would not be used for a solder connection train, but for a plug connection, could turn out the compressive or tensile force exerted on the contacts during the mating and separating process is disadvantageous affect such that the lead wires come back

According to FIGS. 2, 4 and 5 the connector 4 has Housing 16 on. which is connected to a cover 18. The housing 16 has a first front one Housing end face 22 and a circumferential flange 24 on its second rear housing end face 20. An At each of its ends, the flange 24 has a shoulder 26 with a threaded socket 28 for receiving one Screw bolt 30 (only one of which is shown) which is connected to a nut 32 (only one of which is shown) cooperates and the connectors 4 and 6 and the housing 16 and the cover 18 with each other locked.
Von der Basis 36 steht eine Stützwand 38 nach rückwärts, d. h. in einer von der Gehäusestirnfläche 22 wegführenden Richtung, hervorA channel 34 opening into the housing end face 22 consists of a base wall 36, side walls 37 and End walls 41 (only one is shown). A support wall 38 projects rearwardly from the base 36; H. in a from the housing end face 22 leading out direction
Two superposed rows of contact receiving cavities 44 extend at each side of the support wall 38 by the housing 16, one end of each contact receiving cavity 44 with the channel 34 is in communication un H the other end in the in 4 and 5 rerhte end face of the housing 16 opens, the contact receiving cavities of one row being oriented opposite to the other row.
Each contact cavity 44 contains a Elektrisches Konwfcteleriivr.t 46 (at best in Fig. 9 to see), consisting of a wire connection part 48, a metal strip 52, a transition part 54 and a contact part 56. The wire connection part 48 is, in Longitudinal section through the contact element 46 seen, essentially U-shaped and has in each arm of the U a wire receiving slot 51 with an enlarged slot opening 50 intersecting the base of the U, so that this is divided so that an insulated lead wire simultaneously through both slot openings 50 in the Wire receiving slots 51 can be used, as will be described. The metal strip 52, which of the one shown in FIG. 9 extends left arm of the wire connection part 48 is formed as a flat rectangular plate and connected to the contact part 56 via a transition portion 54 which is relative to the plane of the Metal strip 52 is inclined so that the metal strip 52 and the contact part 56 in parallel, with respect staggered levels '',. The transition part 54 and the contact part 56 are ve η the same width, are, however, of considerably less width than the metal strip 52. The contact portion 56 has one shown in FIG. 9 upwardly directed end portion 58, and from a side cortex of this end portion 58 extends a Lug 60 at a right angle to the end portion 58. The contact element 46 can in can be easily manufactured by punching and forming from a single sheet of spring metal existing die cut, for example made of brass, phosphor bronze, aluminum bronze or beryllium copper consists. In general, the contact element 46 is provided with a corrosion-resistant, electrically conductive coating, z. B. made of gold or silver.
The cavities 44 are separated from one another by thin-walled insulating webs 62 which are connected to the support wall 38 are made in one piece and merge into sections 39 of the housing 16, which in cross section limit rectangular outer recesses 66. The insulating webs 62 extend outward over the outer sides 40 of the support wall 38 addition and also extend over the wire terminal parts 48 of the Contact elements 46 out, so that these parts are isolated from one another. The insulating webs 62 limit rectangular recesses 64, which are arranged opposite with respect to the recesses 66. At at each end of the housing 16 is an end web 68 of greater thickness and height than the insulating webs 62 provided, which extends parallel to these.
As the F i g. 9 and 11, each cavity 44 is generally T-shaped in cross-section, one of the outer sides 40 of the support wall 38 cooperating with the walls 75 and 76 of the cavity to form the cross arm of the T and walls 73 and 74 of the cavity cooperate to form the foot of the T. The wall 73 diverges from the side 40 to the rear, i.e. H. in the from the first housing end face 22 of the housing 16 «leading direction. Each wall 75 diverges at 76 v ^ n of side 40 in that of the first Housing face 22 leading away direction, the divergence angles of the walls 73 and 75 in the are essentially the same. Each wall 75 extends from cavity 44 and forms the inner wall of one nose 74 protruding from the adjacent insulating web 62.
Wenn ein Kontaktelement 46 in einen der Hohlräume eingesetzt werden soll, wird das Kontaktelement mitIf a contact element 46 is to be inserted into one of the cavities, the contact element is also used
Then the contact element is moved to the left in FIG. 9 until the part 58 of the contact element so engages the wall 73 that it is on the side 40 pressed wir.d, so that when the contact portion 56 of the terminal in the cavity 44 a considerable Was introduced a little far, the lateral edges of the metal strip 52 of the contact element between the Lugs 74 and the side 40 are guided. When the contact element 46 is completely in the cavity 44 has been used, the contact part 56 of the contact element lies along one of the walls 37 of the Channel 34 at a distance from wall 37 (best seen in Fig. 4).
As Figure 5 shows, the metal strip 52 of the Contact element in the cross arm of the T-shaped cavity 44, with little clearance, so that the Metal strip 52 is held against displacement out of its own plane. Dividing ribs 80 between adjacent cavities 44 delimit recesses 82 with undercut inner end walls 42, against which the lugs 60 of the end sections 58 of the contact elements 46 snap when the contact elements are completely inserted into the cavities 44, so that the contact elements against a Pulling out of the cavities 44 are securely set.
The parts of the connector 6 that have the same function as those relating to the connector 4 Parts described are denoted by the same reference numerals which are simply deleted. Like F i g. 4 shows the connector 6 has a housing 16 'with a cavity 84 for receiving the left in FIGS End of the housing 16 of the connector 4. The support wall 38 'has a portion that extends into the Lumen 84 extends and is received in channel 34 of connector 4, as shown in FIG. 5 shows said portion having parallel grooves 82 'with undercut inner end walls 42' which Pick up lugs 60 'on the contact elements 46'. The lugs 60 'are on end portions 58' of the contact elements 46 ', with the end portions 58' facing inwardly with respect to the housing 16 'and not, as in the case of the end sections 58 of the contact elements 46, to the outside. The contact parts 56 'of the Contact elements 46 'have such a distance from the approach of the support wall 38' that they be resiliently bent towards this when the connectors 4 and 6 are joined together, the Contact parts 56 of the contact element 46 can be displaced resiliently in the direction of the walls 37, such as from a comparison of FIGS. 4 and 5.
The contact elements 46 'are mounted in the housing 16' in substantially the same manner as that Contact elements 46 in the housing 16.
The housings 16 and 16 'may be made of thermoplastic material, e.g. B. made of glass-filled nylon, because the material of the housing does not have to be heat-resistant, because there is no soldering process when connecting the Connecting wires are carried out with the contact elements.
The cover 18 or 18 'can also be made of glass-filled nylon or of metal. Since the two covers are identical, only cover 18 will now be described.
The cover 18 is essentially U-shaped in cross section with side walls 92, their free longitudinal edges are designed so that they engage the second housing face 20 of the housing 16, as shown in FIG. 4 and 5 show. The side walls 92 have opposing grooves 96 which are sized so that they Take up insulating webs 68 so that the housing 16 is simply joined to the cover 18 by this that the grooves 96 of the cover 18 are aligned with the end webs 68 of the housing 16 and that the cover and the housing are pushed towards one another until a projection 100 on the one shown in FIG. 2 the left end of the cover is aligned with the corresponding shoulder 26 of the housing. At this time forms the in F i g. 2 left ridge 68 of the housing makes contact with the end wall 98 of the cover.
A holder 102 for the cable 8 is made in one piece with the cover 18, the cable being clamped between said holder and a further holder 104 by means of a clamping ring 106, the clamping ring 106 having lugs 108 which are secured by means of a nut and a screw 110 can be fastened to one another, as FIG. 3 shows. Lugs 109 on the cable holders 102 and 104 protrude through openings in the clamping ring 106 and prevent relative rotation between the ring 106 and the holders 102 and 104.
The contact elements can already be inserted into the connector at the factory in which the connector assembly is manufactured, and the connecting wires can be joined to the connectors at a place where the cables 8 and 10 are to be connected to one another.
In order to connect the connecting wires of the cables 8 and 10 to the contact elements, the housing each connector is removed from its cover as shown with respect to connector 4 in Figure 2. It The connection process is now described with reference to the connection wires 14 of the cable 8 and the Connector 4 described.
F i g. 7 und 8 zeigen.
Like F i g. 6 shows, the connecting wire 14 is aligned with the slot openings 50 of the wire receiving slots 51 of the connecting part 48 of the contact element 46 and then pressed by working elements 88 and 89 of an insertion tool (not shown) through the slot openings 50 into the wire receiving slots 51, as shown in FIG. 7 and 8 show. The members 88 and 89 push the lead down into the wire receiving slots on either side of the wire connecting part 48 of the contact element, and the leg 87 serves to push the connecting wire midway between the arms of the wire connecting part 48 down into the wire receiving slots. While the insulated connecting wire 14 is being printed from the slot opening 50 into the actual Drr 'taufnahmeschlitze 51, the edges of the wire receiving slots cut through the insulation of the connecting wire and form resilient electrical contact with the electrically conductive core of the wire. During the connection process, a portion 90 of the wire is cut from the remainder of the wire by the member 88 together with a corner of one of the parts 39 of the housing. A cutting edge, not shown, consisting for example of metal, can be arranged on the corner mentioned. In addition, the housing can be made of a material that has a sufficient hardness to withstand the wire cutting process.
As FIGS. 4 and 5 show, parts of the cover 18 and 18 'on each side of the recesses 96 and 96' serve to hold the connecting wires in the wire receiving slots of the contact elements.
