Description

A plectrum (also called a plectrum or pick) is used in music to play various stringed instruments (e.g. guitar). It is a small plate that can be made of different materials. As a rule, it is triangular to teardrop-shaped and is held between the index finger and thumb. The tip of this pick is used to pluck the strings of the instrument and make them sound.

Instead of using a plectrum, you can pluck the strings of an instrument with your fingertips and/or fingernails, which enables polyphonic playing styles, among other things.

Both types of playing offer different sonic results and have different advantages and disadvantages. Depending on requirements, both types of musicians are used and, if necessary, changed within a piece of music.

As an intermediate stage there is the so-called thumb plectrum (also called thumb pick or thumb pick). This is a clamp that attaches to the thumb and has a protruding tip that the thumb uses to pluck the strings. The thumb pick is essentially intended to replace picking with your thumbnail. However, it does not replace a plectrum, as it is usually only designed to be played in one direction and is inflexible and rigid in its attachment.

The traditional design of a plectrum has two major disadvantages:

The aim was to develop a plectrum that offers the same playing feel as a normal plectrum, but can never fall out of your hand, can never slip and with which it is possible at any time to move back and forth between the pick strike and the strike with the individual fingers to switch here. It should also be usable like a thumb pick. The aim is to enable the player to make music on the instrument in a multi-faceted way, with a natural and relaxed feeling when playing.

A plectrum was developed that can be attached to the thumb using Velcro. The construction is designed to match the natural position of a pick without any parts of the construction interfering with guitar playing.

An embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawings 1 - 6 explained on the enclosed sheet. 1 and 2 show the two individual components of the construction before their assembly. 3 and 4 show the front and back of the invention. 5 and 6 show the attachment of the invention to the thumb.

The basic principle of the construction consists of two components that are connected to each other:

During the manufacturing process, the Velcro strap is passed through the two holes in the plectrum body and automatically fixes itself to the plectrum body at the tapered point in the middle area of the strap ( 3 and . 4). With the two ends of the Velcro strap now protruding from the plectrum body, the plectrum is fixed to the thumb by placing the ends on top of each other ( 5 ) The hook side of the Velcro strap is on the inside and thus additionally increases the slip resistance on the thumb. The corners of the tape are rounded to avoid scratching and resistance to the skin and instrument during use.

Different material thicknesses and shapes of the plectrum body (1) are possible in order to serve different areas of application and user preferences.

Thanks to this construction, the plectrum body can be individually adapted to any thumb shape. Individual preferences for the position of the plectrum body on the thumb can also be adjusted. This enables a playing feel that is identical to that of a normal plectrum.

The texture of the Velcro tape (3) and the precise attachment prevent the construction from slipping. The plectrum body always remains in the optimal playing position.

The design makes it possible to detach the index finger from the thumb and use the plectrum body as a thumb pick, as well as to use the remaining fingers freely to pluck additional strings. It enables multi-faceted and nuanced playing on the instrument.
