Das Schweißgerät weist dann für jedes Werkstück ein Werkzeug in der Form eines Düsenkopfes auf und wird so in den Zwischenraum zwischen den beiden Werkstücken gefahren, dass die Düsen jedes Düsenkopfes auf eine Schweißlinie auf der Oberfläche des betreffenden Werkstücks gerichtet sind. Die Werkstücke werden dann so weit an das Schweißgerät herangefahren, dass die Mündungen der Düsen nur noch einen geringen Abstand zur Werkstückoberfläche aufweisen. Durch Abgabe des Heißgases aus den Düsen wird dann das Kunststoffmaterial entlang der Schweißlinien erhitzt und plastifiziert.
