Description

The invention relates to a convertible table with a table frame and a rectangular table top with an upper and a lower plate which is rotatably mounted on the table frame.

In cramped living spaces, tables are often used, which should only be expanded to include a larger table surface on special occasions. Extending tables are offered in a variety of forms, in which the table surface is extended or widened with additional panels.
Another solution is convertible tables, in which two table tops lie on top of one another and which can be folded apart if necessary.

Various convertible tables with two table tops lying one on top of the other are known. Convertible tables are widespread, in which the table tops can be rotated and the upper table top can be opened and this is then supported on one or more support elements. In versions without support elements, the pivot point is located far outside the center of the table frame and this then supports both table tops.

The Aztec product offered by BoConcept is a folding table in which the upper table top is divided into two halves that can be opened. In addition, the existing table is widened. The table tops are not intended to be rotated.

It is the object of the invention to present a convertible table with hinged table tops, in which the opened table surface is completely supported on the table frame and which is simultaneously increased in length and width.

This object is achieved with the features of claim 1.
Advantageous embodiments of the invention are specified in the subclaims.

The convertible table has a table frame and a rectangular table top with an upper and a lower plate, which are rotatably mounted on the table frame.
The table is characterized by the fact that the upper plate is divided in the middle into two longitudinal halves and the halves are each hinged to the outer edge of the lower plate with a hinge and the folded halves open in a rotated position support the table frame.
In this way, additional support elements are avoided and the table surface increases evenly in length and width.

It is advantageous if the table tops have an aspect ratio of 2: 3. Then the table surface is extended by the same amount on all sides. A maximum of 1: 2 is possible so that the unfolded table top lies completely on the frame.

The table frame typically has three crossbars that connect the long sides of the frame. The middle crossbar has a pivot hole in the center of the table frame, in which a pivot pin engages on the lower plate and through which the table tops are rotated. For a rotated position of the table top, locking holes are also incorporated in the central cross bar.
The two lateral crosspieces are offset parallel to the middle crosspiece and each contain a locking hole for the non-rotated position of the table top. The convertible table has a central hole for the pivot pin and four holes for the locking pin.

The lower plate advantageously has a locking pin which can be locked into the locking holes in the cross struts for the rotated or the non-rotated position. The table tops are fixed in the preferred positions. In another embodiment, the locking takes place via a ball catch inserted in the lower table top, which is pressed into corresponding locking recesses in the cross struts.

To turn the table top, it is necessary to bring the locking pin out of the locking hole. It is advantageous if the edge of the table top protrudes beyond the frame of the table frame and can therefore be gripped under the edge.
A shadow gap can also be incorporated in the frame, which can be used to reach under the table top.

Finger grooves are advantageously incorporated into the shorter edges of the upper plate halves, by means of which the plate halves can be raised. This enables easier lifting of the plate halves.

When it comes to tables, the quality of the usable surfaces is very important. In the convertible table presented here, the surface of the lower table top and the lower surface of the upper plate halves are preferably designed as valuable display sides. The upper surfaces of the upper plate halves can, for example, be designed as a work surface.

If the upper plate is designed as a work surface, it can also be made thicker than the lower plate. When the upper panel halves are folded down, these thicker panel halves then engage in corresponding notches in the frame. This will also prevent the unfolded panels from twisting relative to the frame.
