Description
The invention relates to an edge strip for furniture, comprising a melt layer and a structural layer connected to the melt layer, both of which at least partially comprise a polymeric material, and at least one functional layer.
It has been known for many years from the prior art that plastic edges are usually applied to edges of wood-based panels by suitable machines. In this case, an adhesive bond is often realized, which is either a so-called. Hot melt adhesive, which is rolled on the plastic edge in a continuous process or by an adhesive that has been previously applied to the plastic edge, for example, by a subsequent coating, by coextrusion and the like and be liquefied again by means of an energy input and then pressed or welded together with the edge to the narrow side of a furniture panel.
It is a plastic edge used, the areas of different hardness has, in particular, a coextruded thermoplastic edge is used. The layer of plastic edge facing the panel body is softer and easier to reflow, i. it has a lower melting point than the hard outer layer of the plastic edge.
A disadvantage of this edge is seen that when introducing the laser energy beam powers in the range of 100 W and more are required to melt the thin layer of the plastic edge over the entire surface and in a penetration depth of about 0.2 to 0.5 mm. The required power of the laser used can cause the melted thin layer of the plastic edge is thermally stressed or damaged so that a subsequent bonding or welding with the furniture panel is no longer possible. Another disadvantage of the disclosed plastic edge is that the strength of the achievable cohesive connection between the thin, molten layer of the plastic edge and the narrow side of the furniture panel no longer meet today's requirements.
A further disadvantage of this plastic edge is that the energy input required for the melting of the thin layer is absorbed, for example, by laser energy through the entire plastic edge and converted into heat. This is particularly disadvantageous for this disclosed plastic edge, if it is to be used in so-called free-form machining, for example in the production of, in particular, circular pieces of furniture.
Another disadvantage of this prior art plastic edge is that the disclosed melt layer can only be fused by the introduction of a single energy in the form of laser light. For conventional bonding of the plastic edge with known hot melt adhesives this plastic edge is not suitable.
This is where the invention, which has set itself the task to show an edge strip for furniture, which is inexpensive and economical to produce, which is reliably attachable to furniture and both in the so-called. Automatic continuous flow method as well as in so-called. Freeformbearbeitungen with all known enamel layers can be used.
This is realized by an edge strip with the features of
It has surprisingly been found that an edge strip for pieces of furniture comprising at least one enamel layer and structural layer connected to the enamel layer, both of which at least partially comprise a polymeric material, and at least one functional layer is characterized in that the functional layer is chemically modified such that it contains both polar and nonpolar portions in the molecular structure and via the melt layer, this at least partially reflecting, is arranged spaced from the structural layer, wherein the material of the functional layer is selected from the group of polymer solutions or polymer dispersions, in particular the solvent-containing or preferably aqueous polymer solutions or polymer dispersions. Surprisingly, by means of the functional layer arranged at a distance from the structure layer over the melt layer, the edge strip according to the invention can be attached to all the currently known production lines for attaching edge strips to the narrow sides of furniture pieces. In particular, for the innovative attachment of such inventive edge strips of furniture over the entry of energy via, for example, laser energy edge strip according to the invention can be reliably and easily attached to the narrow sides of the furniture. It has further surprisingly been found that the edge strip according to the invention selects known melt adhesive and entry of energy from the group consisting of laser, infrared source, ultrasonic source, magnetic field source, microwave source, plasma source and fumigation, this energy is absorbed or absorbed so that melted the melt layer and the edge strip according to the invention is integrally attached to the narrow side of the piece of furniture. Thus, the edge strip according to the invention is universally suitable for all currently known methods for attachment to the narrow sides of pieces of furniture, which in particular significantly reduces the cost of edgeband manufacturer but also the storage of furniture or furniture manufacturers.
It has also proved to be extremely advantageous that the material of the functional layer is selected from the group of polyurethanes (PUR), acrylates, chloroprenes, epoxy resins, ethylene vinyl acetates (for example EVA dispersions), polyvinyl acetates (PVAC dispersions). and the like, as well as mixtures of two or more of the aforementioned substances. The material of the functional layer can be applied to the melt layer both in the direct production of the edge strip according to the invention. However, it is also within the scope of the invention that the functional layer can be applied to the narrow side of furniture directly before attaching the edge strip according to the invention. The edge strip for furniture according to the invention is thus applicable to all currently known manufacturing equipment for attaching edge strips to the narrow sides of furniture.
- – ca. 10 bis 40 Gew.-% Füllstoffe, vorzugsweise Carbonate, Silikate, Kieselsäure, Erdalkalisulfate sowie Farbpigmente, vorzugsweise Metalloxide wie Titanoxid (TiO2);
- 10 to 20% by weight of binder, preferably postchlorinated polyvinyl chloride (PVC), ethylene vinyl acetate (EVAC), polyurethane (PUR),
- - About 10 to 40 wt .-% fillers, preferably carbonates, silicates, silica, alkaline earth sulfates and color pigments, preferably metal oxides such as titanium oxide (TiO 2 );
- - About 40 to 80 wt .-% solvent, preferably organic solvents, preferably based on ester or ketone or preferably inorganic solvents, preferably water.
As a result of this selection of the various materials and the different amounts, the edge strip according to the invention can be produced cost-effectively and economically and can be optimized individually for each production method for attachment to the narrow sides of the pieces of furniture.
It has further been found to be advantageous that the functional layer of the edge strip according to the invention has a thickness of about 0.1 μm to 100 μm, preferably 0.2 μm to 75 μm, particularly preferably 0.5 to 30 μm. This advantageously leads, in addition to an economical and cost-effective production of the edge strip according to the invention, to the fact that the functional layer of the respective geometry of the edge strip according to the invention is optimally adaptable.
In a further advantageous embodiment, the edge strip according to the invention is designed such that the functional layer has a density of about 0.5 g / m 3 to 1.2 g / m 3 , preferably about 0.7 g / m 3 to 1 g / m 3 having. This advantageously leads to the fact that the functional layer in different materials of the melt layer is adaptable and thus inexpensive and economically applicable.

Another advantage of the edge strip according to the invention is that the structural layer and / or the melt layer is based on polymeric materials. By polymeric material is meant materials such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC); Polyolefin, such as polypropylene (PP) or polyethylene (PE) ; styrene-based polymer such as polystyrene (PS) or styrene-butadiene copolymer predominantly styrene (SB) or acrylonitrile-styrene-acrylic ester copolymers (ASA) or acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymers (ABS) or styrene-acrylonitrile (SAN); Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT); Polyethylene terephthalate (PET); Polyoxymethylene (POM); Polyamide (PA); Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA); Polyphenylene oxide (PPO); Polyetheretherketone (PEEK); Polyphenylene sulfide (PPS); Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP); Polyamide-imides (PAI); Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF); Polyphenylsulfone (PPSU); Polyaryletherketone (PAEK); Polyacrylonitrile (PAN); Polychlorotrifluoroethylene (PCTFE); Polyether ketone (PEK); Polyimide (PI); Polyisobutene (PIB); Polyphthalamide (PPA); Polypyrrole PPY); polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE); Polyurethane (PUR); Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA); Polyvinyl acetate (PVAC); Polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC); and mixtures of at least two of these materials. In this case, the polymer material suitable fillers and / or reinforcing materials may be added, which positively affect the mechanical properties, in particular glass fibers, glass beads but also fillers such as chalk, Teflon and the like. The fillers and / or reinforcing materials are contained in amounts of about 5 to 50 wt .-%, preferably 10 to 35 wt .-%, based on the total mass.
Also in an advantageous embodiment of the edge strip according to the invention, the melt layer is based on thermoplastic, in particular non-reactive hot melt adhesives, in particular based on ethylene vinyl acetate (EVAC); Polyolefin (PO) such as polyethylene (PE); amorphous polyalphaolefin (APAO); polyacrylate; Polyamide (PA); Copolyamide (CoPA); copolyester; thermoplastic polyester elastomers (TPE-E), thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers (TPE-U) or their corresponding co- and / or terpolymers; and mixtures of at least two of these materials.
In a further advantageous embodiment, the edge strip according to the invention is designed such that no, one or more intermediate layers are provided between the structural layer and the melt layer. This advantageously leads to the fact that the different materials of the structural layer and / or the melt layer can be produced either directly in the production process of coextrusion without an intermediate layer. However, it is also within the scope of the invention that an additional functional layer is arranged between a structural layer and a melt layer of the edge strip according to the invention, which optimizes the cohesive connection between the structural layer and the melt layer.
The edge strip according to the invention is further characterized in that the material of the melt layer is a copolymer, preferably a graft copolymer, preferably a maleic anhydride-grafted polyolefin. Particularly advantageous is the material of the melt layer is a maleic anhydride-grafted polypropylene.
The edge strip according to the invention is advantageously also designed so that the melt layer has both polar and nonpolar portions in the molecular structure, i. that the material of the melt layer is chemically modified so that it has both polar and non-polar parts in the molecular structure.
In a further advantageous embodiment of the edge strip according to the invention, the melt layer contains light and / or radiation-absorbing additives, preferably laser-absorbing pigments. Here, the melt layer of the edge strip according to the invention advantageously contains additives selected from the group of metal oxides, the metal phosphates and the metal salts of organic anions. In particular, amounts of about 0.01 to 5 wt .-%, based on their total weight, have proven to be advantageous.
The invention further relates to a piece of furniture with an edge strip according to the invention with the described features, this being characterized in that the underside of the edge strip according to the invention is fully bonded to the edge of the piece of furniture materially.
