Description
The invention relates to an arrangement for exhaust aftertreatment for an internal combustion engine according to the preamble of
Internal combustion engines often generate considerable amounts of nitrogen oxides (NO x ) during operation. In particular, in diesel and Otto lean-burn engines used in motor vehicles, the amounts of nitrogen oxide in the exhaust gas are generally above the permissible limits, so that an exhaust aftertreatment to reduce NO x emissions is necessary. One common method uses an SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) catalyst to reduce NO x emissions. For the conversion of nitrogen oxides by an SCR catalyst into harmless substances, the supply of ammonia (NH 3 ) is required, for example by injection of a urea solution in the exhaust gas stream. In another common method, a NO x storage catalytic converter (Lean NO x trap, LNT) is used, which receives and stores the nitrogen oxides contained in the exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine. From time to time, a regeneration of the NO x storage catalytic converter has to take place, for which purpose an excess of fuel must be generated in the exhaust gas conducted through the NO x storage catalytic converter, which causes an excess consumption of fuel. Both in the operation of an SCR catalyst and a NO x storage catalyst thus additional costs incurred by the necessary provision of ammonia or additional fuel.

In the known exhaust aftertreatment arrangements and methods for reducing NO x emissions, considerable additional operating costs arise due to the necessary provision of ammonia or additional fuel. Furthermore, it depends on the operating conditions of the internal combustion engine, in particular on the current speed and the current load, whether a regeneration of the NO x storage catalytic converter is possible.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an arrangement for exhaust aftertreatment for an internal combustion engine and an exhaust aftertreatment system for an internal combustion engine, wherein the above-mentioned disadvantages are reduced or avoided.
This object is achieved by an arrangement for exhaust aftertreatment and by an exhaust aftertreatment system as specified in the independent claims.
In an inventive arrangement for exhaust aftertreatment for an internal combustion engine, in particular for a diesel engine or a gasoline lean-burn engine, a first NO x storage catalytic converter is arranged in a main branch of the exhaust gas line of the internal combustion engine. In the exhaust gas stream upstream of the first NO x storage catalytic converter branches off from the main branch from a first bypass branch, which opens downstream of the first NO x storage again in the main branch and thus is connected in parallel to the first NO x storage catalytic converter and bypasses it. The first bypass branch can be traversed by at least part of the exhaust gas flow of the internal combustion engine and, in particular, has a corresponding cross section for this purpose. For selectively guiding the exhaust gas flow through the first NO x storage catalytic converter or through the first bypass branch or to divide the exhaust gas flow to the main branch and the first bypass branch, a corresponding means for controlling the exhaust gas flow, such as a valve or a flap in the bypass branch or in the main branch between the branch and the junction of the first bypass branch may be provided.
According to the invention, a second NO x storage catalytic converter is arranged in the main branch of the exhaust gas line in the exhaust gas flow further downstream, ie downstream of the junction of the first bypass branch into the first main branch. The second NO x storage catalytic converter is indirectly or immediately downstream of the first NO x storage catalytic converter in the exhaust gas line and can at least temporarily flow through at least part of the exhaust gas flow of the internal combustion engine. In the exhaust line further exhaust aftertreatment devices may be arranged, for example in the main branch downstream of the confluence of the first bypass branch and upstream of the second NO x storage catalytic converter or downstream of the second NO x storage catalytic converter.
Characterized in that a second NO x storage catalytic converter is arranged downstream of the junction of the first bypass branch in the first main branch, not only a particularly extensive reduction of the nitrogen oxide emissions of the internal combustion engine is possible, but a reduction of NO x emissions in the case or . In such operating phases allows in which the first NO x storage catalyst is bypassed by a part or the entire exhaust gas flow. Such a bypass may be advantageous in particular during a regeneration of the first NO x storage catalytic converter. Thus, according to the invention, it is possible to operate the exhaust aftertreatment device or the internal combustion engine with the exhaust gas aftertreatment device in such a way that purification of the exhaust gas flow to reduce the NO x content also takes place in a regeneration phase of the first NO x storage catalytic converter. This makes it possible, in particular, to carry out a regeneration of the first NO x storage catalytic converter largely independently of the current operating state of the internal combustion engine, and thus, for example, even when the internal combustion engine is not idling or in a coasting phase and thus is not operated with currently low nitrogen oxide emissions. Finally, by making the amount that a bypass branch being arranged parallel to the first NO x storage catalytic converter which can be traversed by at least a portion of the exhaust stream of the engine, a reduction or interruption of exhaust flow through the first NO x storage catalyst enables during a regeneration phase, reduces the flowing through this oxygen and therefore the amount of fuel required for the regeneration of the first NO x storage catalyst is reduced.
Preferably, the part of the exhaust gas flow of the internal combustion engine, which flows through the first bypass branch, controllable with a first valve. This makes it possible to divert an adjustable portion of the exhaust gas flow around the first NO x storage catalytic converter. The first valve may advantageously be arranged at the branch of the first bypass branch from the main branch of the exhaust gas line. The first valve may be controllable by a control device such that during a regeneration of the first NO x storage catalytic converter, it is bypassed by a part or the entire exhaust gas flow.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the arrangement for exhaust aftertreatment comprises a second bypass branch which branches off from the main branch in the exhaust gas flow downstream of the confluence of the first bypass branch into the main branch and upstream of the second NO x storage catalytic converter and is thus connected in parallel to the second NO x storage catalytic converter. The second bypass branch can be traversed by at least part of the exhaust gas flow of the internal combustion engine and in particular has a corresponding cross section for this purpose. The second bypass branch may again flow into the main branch downstream of the second NO x storage catalytic converter or run separately therefrom. For selectively guiding the exhaust gas flow through the second NO x storage catalytic converter or through the second bypass branch or for splitting the exhaust gas flow onto the main branch with the second NO x storage catalytic converter and the second bypass branch, a corresponding means for controlling the exhaust gas flow may be provided, such as one Valve or a flap in the bypass branch or in the bypassed from the second bypass branch portion of the main branch. Characterized in that parallel to the second NO x storage a second bypass branch is provided, the possibility is created, the exhaust aftertreatment device or the internal combustion engine with the exhaust aftertreatment device to operate such that in a regeneration phase of the second NO x storage catalytic converter, the exhaust gas flow through the second NO x- storage catalyst is reduced or prevented, whereby the amount of oxygen flowing through it is reduced and therefore the amount of fuel required for the regeneration of the second NO x storage catalyst is reduced.
Preferably, the part of the exhaust gas flow of the internal combustion engine, which flows through the second bypass branch, can be controlled with a second valve. This makes it possible to pass an adjustable portion of the exhaust gas flow past the second NO x storage catalytic converter. The second valve can advantageously at the Branch of the second bypass branch of the main branch of the exhaust line may be arranged. The second valve can be controlled by a control device in such a way that during a regeneration of the second NO x storage catalytic converter it is at most traversed by a part of the exhaust gas flow.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, at the main branch of the exhaust line downstream of the branching of the first bypass branch and upstream of the first NO x storage catalytic converter, first means for fuel supply and / or downstream of the branch of the second bypass branch and upstream of the second NO x storage catalytic converter second supply means for fuel supply arranged. The first and second fuel supply means may be formed, for example, as an injection nozzle or as an evaporator and serve to enrich the flowing through the first and second NO x storage exhaust gas with fuel to perform a regeneration of the respective NO x storage catalytic converter. The first or second means for supplying fuel can in particular be controlled by a control device such that during regeneration of the first or the second NO x storage catalytic converter, a suitable amount of fuel for the corresponding enrichment of the exhaust gas is supplied. This is, if at least a part of the total exhaust gas flow of the internal combustion engine is guided over the first and second bypass branch, lower than if the entire exhaust gas flow during regeneration would be passed through the respective NO x storage catalytic converter. As a result, a particularly effective and cost-effective operation of the exhaust aftertreatment arrangement is made possible.
Preferably, at least one further exhaust gas aftertreatment device is arranged in the exhaust gas line between the first and the second NO x storage catalytic converter. As a result, a particularly extensive reduction of undesirable exhaust gas components is made possible. In a particularly advantageous manner, the at least one further exhaust aftertreatment device is arranged between the confluence of the first bypass branch in the main branch and the branch of the second bypass branch. In this way, it is achieved that the entire exhaust gas flow, possibly after a flow through the first NO x storage catalytic converter, is passed through the at least one further exhaust gas aftertreatment device and thus a particularly complete purification of the exhaust gas is made possible.
As at least one further exhaust aftertreatment device, which is preferably arranged between the first and the second NO x storage catalytic converter, in particular an SCR catalytic converter and / or a coated diesel particulate filter (CDPF) and / or a combined filter with an SCR catalyst and a diesel particulate filter (SDPF) may be provided. Further, especially in an SCR catalyst or a SCPF immediately upstream thereof, there may be a supply of ammonia or an ammonia providing agent, such as a urea solution. As a result, a further reduction of the NO x - and / or soot emission and possibly other pollutants contained in the exhaust gas is made possible.
In a method for operating an internal combustion engine, in particular a diesel engine or a gasoline lean-burn engine, with an arrangement for exhaust aftertreatment according to one of the preceding claims, in a first operating state substantially the entire exhaust gas stream of the internal combustion engine is passed through the first NO x storage catalytic converter and in one second operating state passed at least a majority of the exhaust gas flow through the first bypass branch, wherein in the second operating state, a regeneration of the first NO x storage catalytic converter is performed. For this purpose, means for controlling the exhaust gas flow or for supplying fuel, for example a first valve at the branch of the first bypass branch and an upstream of the first NO x storage catalytic converter arranged in the main branch injection nozzle, are controlled by a control device accordingly. Characterized in that in the second operating state, at least a predominant part of the exhaust gas flow is passed through the first bypass branch and thus the first NO x storage catalyst is not or flows through only a smaller part of the exhaust gas flow, the amount of thereby by the first NO x storage catalytic converter flowing oxygen, so that for regeneration a smaller amount of the supplied fuel is sufficient.
Preferably, in both the first and in the second operating state substantially the entire exhaust gas flow is passed through the second NO x storage catalytic converter. In the first operating state, this results in a particularly extensive cleaning of the exhaust gas flow, in particular a substantial avoidance of NO x emissions. In the second operating state, in which the exhaust gas flow has bypassed the first NO x storage catalytic converter, the exhaust gas flow is purified by the second NO x storage catalytic converter. As a result, not only a particularly extensive reduction of the averaged over all operating conditions NO x emissions of the internal combustion engine can be achieved, but it is also possible, a regeneration of the first NO x storage regardless of the operating condition of the internal combustion engine perform; the regeneration is thus in particular not limited to operating states with low NO x emissions. This makes it possible to carry out a regeneration of the first NO x storage catalytic converter solely as a function of its condition, in particular of the charge, and to an optimum time with regard to the operation of the first NO x storage catalytic converter.
Furthermore, in a third operating state, in which a regeneration of the second NO x storage catalytic converter is carried out, it is preferred that substantially all of the exhaust gas flow of the internal combustion engine be conducted through the first NO x storage catalytic converter and at least a predominant part of the exhaust gas flow through the second bypass branch becomes. As a result, a regeneration of the second NO x storage catalytic converter is made possible, wherein the second NO x storage catalytic converter is not flowed through or only by a smaller part of the exhaust gas flow. As a result, the amount of oxygen flowing through the second NO x storage catalytic converter is reduced, so that a smaller amount of fuel supplied is sufficient for the regeneration.
According to a preferred embodiment of the method, in the second and / or in the third operating state, an additional fuel injection into the internal combustion engine for enrichment of the exhaust gas flow, ie for generating a fuel surplus in the exhaust gas flow, is performed. This makes it possible to regenerate the first or the second NO x storage catalytic converter without having to provide additional means for supplying fuel in the exhaust gas system, or in the event that there are fuel supply means in the exhaust gas system, the regeneration can be improved. In both cases, a major part of the exhaust gas flow, but not the entire exhaust gas flow, passed through the first and the second bypass branch, so that a reduced flow through the to be regenerated NO x storage catalytic converter takes place, through which the exhaust gas with that in the internal combustion engine injected fuel into the respective NO x storage catalytic converter passes.
