Stand der Wissenschaft und der Technik:State of science and technology:
In the "dark" season (autumn, winter, spring), medical symptoms such as listlessness, tiredness, lack of concentration and depressive moods increase significantly. The northern countries are particularly affected by this phenomenon. But also habitats (apartments, workplaces, schools, hospitals, retirement homes etc. pp.), In which under artificial light is lived, are affected by this problem. In the extremely northern countries with extreme lack of light, this culminates in an increased suicide rate.
Why?
Light has a huge influence on our health. It was not until more than ten years ago that scientists discovered that the human eye not only possesses rod cell for black-and-white brightness vision and cone cells for color vision, but also another class of photoreceptor cells. These so-called ganglion cells in the eye react to light, although they do not contribute to the actual vision. These cells react particularly in daylight with high cold light portion up to 27000 Kelvin and work as hormone receptors. Through these ganglion cells, the interplay of three hormones in the body is significantly influenced: so-called "blue light" with a color temperature of over 10000 Kelvin suppresses the production of the sleep hormone melatonin, which makes you tired and the body functions down. As a result, the stress hormone cortisol can be stronger, which is produced in the adrenal cortex starting at about three o'clock in the morning, thus preparing the person for a vital awakening. The mood-enhancing and motivating hormone serotonin also provides additional performance amplitudes throughout the day. Serotonin thus catches a decrease in cortisol levels throughout the day.
Since in the "dark season" only limited and in normally illuminated interiors nowadays hardly blue light occur we suffer from a blue light deficiency with all its accompanying symptoms.
The solution to the problem is trying to solve the biologically oriented industry by very bright room lights with high levels of blue light. Even so-called rooms as "light showers" with high blue content are known. Scientific experiments in schools have produced impressive results in terms of learning and concentration. In hospitals even a much faster recovery could be recorded. In old people's homes, the dementia tendency declined significantly. In residential and workplaces, such lighting had a stimulating, activating and antidepressant effect. These results are scientifically and medically proven and recognized. Terms such as "learning doping" were found for this effect, for example. At first glance, such lighting may seem cold and uncomfortable. But experience confirms that people get used to it quickly, because record holder is still our natural daylight in a bright blue sky with color temperature values up to 27000 Kelvin. Finally, it also depends on the total light spectrum, which is composed of warm red light components around the 1500 Kelvin up to the absolute blue light up to 27000 Kelvin.
