The invention relates to an umbrella, such as a rain umbrella or parasol according to the preamble of claim 1.

It is the object of the present invention to provide the umbrellas known per se, such as rain or sun umbrellas, which are designed as stick umbrellas or as hand umbrellas that can be folded up into the smallest of spaces, with a

be provided with an optical and/or acoustic signalling device so that the umbrella user can be recognised and noticed early by other road users, in particular when the umbrella user has to cross roads or walk on busy roads and in particular on roads outside of towns and cities in the dark.

The object is achieved with an umbrella, such as an umbrella or parasol, according to the type mentioned at the beginning, which has the features specified in claim 1.

Because the umbrella is equipped with an acoustic and/or optical signaling device, the umbrella wearer can be perceived acoustically or visually from a distance when using the umbrella, which is particularly advantageous when the umbrella wearer is moving in a crowd, whereby the optical signaling device is particularly useful when the umbrella wearer has to walk in the dark or at night on unlit streets and is thus easily recognized from a distance by cyclists and motorists.

The light source, the power source and the on/off switch are arranged in a cap which can be plugged onto the end of the support rod according to a further embodiment, which is cylindrical or designed as a shield tip, the cap being made entirely of a translucent material or only in the area of the light source.

In a preferred embodiment, the free support rod end has a sleeve-shaped intermediate piece made of a translucent material with an integrated illuminant, wherein the intermediate piece is fastened by means of screw, plug or clamp connections or by means of sleeve-shaped adapters made of a spring-elastic material, such as rubber or plastic, with a conical outer wall for producing a plug connection between the sections of the support rod end.

In these embodiments, the optical signaling device is provided on the free end of the support rod protruding from the canopy, either integrated into the support rod end or placed on the support rod end, whereby the support rod end can be point-shaped, button-shaped, figurative or multi-dimensional.

Furthermore, according to the invention, it is possible that at least one illuminant or at least one light-emitting diode or a light strip consisting of a number of lamps or light-emitting diodes is arranged in the peripheral edge region of the canopy or the canopy covering.

The light source can also be arranged in cap-shaped molded bodies made of translucent material, with the individual cap-shaped molded bodies being placed on the free ends of the bars of the supporting structure and held there by means of a press, clamp, adhesive or snap-in connection. These molded bodies can also be figurative or multi-dimensional.

The connecting cables between the on/off switch of the power source, a circuit board and the lamp are housed in or on the rods or the supporting frame and/or on the umbrella covering or canopy and/or on the supporting rod and/or on or in the handle-like handle.

If a rotating running light is used, this can be designed as an advertising medium.

Furthermore, the optical signaling device can consist of at least one light, for example three lights, which are connected to one another via spring-elastic holders, such as bands, with each light being designed as a light rod made of a translucent material, having a light source, a power source and a circuit board with an on and off switch. A light unit designed in this way, consisting of at least one light rod, can then be plugged onto the free end of the support rod, i.e. onto its tip or its button, and thus held in place by means of a clamp fit.

The acoustic signaling device provided on the screen consists of a speech and/or music module to which a loudspeaker is connected. The speech and/or music module consists of a housing with a power source, preferably a battery, a loudspeaker or a recording and playback device with a microphone-loudspeaker unit and an on/off switch that is mechanical or controlled by a light-optical cell or sensor. The speech and/or music module is provided with a recording and playback device for speech or music.

A particularly advantageous embodiment is one in which the speech and/or music module or its loudspeaker, its speech module, its power source and its on/off switch are arranged in the support rod or on the support rod or in the handle-like handle or in the support frame or on the support frame or on the canopy or the canopy covering. The on/off switch of the speech and/or music module is connected to the support frame or its rods in such a way that when the canopy is opened,

the speech and/or music module is activated to play a melody or a pre-programmed or to-be-programmed text and is deactivated when the screen is closed. The on/off switch for the optical signaling device can also be controlled in the same way.

Advantageous embodiments of the invention emerge from the subclaims.

The umbrella 10 shown in Fig. 1, 9A and 10 consists, like conventional umbrellas, of a support rod 11, at the lower end of which a handle-like handle 12 is arranged or whose lower end is designed as a handle-like handle. The umbrella canopy 13 or the umbrella covering is arranged at the upper end of the support rod 11 opposite the handle-like handle 12, whereby this umbrella canopy 13 consists of a support frame 14 with rods 15 or ribs extending radially from the center of the umbrella canopy, between which the umbrella canopy covering made of impregnated fabric or a film is arranged or held. By means of a suitable mechanism, the rods 15 of the support frame 14 are connected to a sleeve that can be moved along the support rod 11 and via which the umbrella canopy 13 is opened and closed, except that an automatic opening device is provided. The free ends 16 of the rods 15 of the supporting frame 14 extend over the peripheral edge 17 of the canopy. The supporting rod 11 extends beyond the canopy; its free end 18 is designed as a point 18' or as a button-like shaped body 18" (Fig. 1 and 2).

The screen 100 is provided with an acoustic signaling device 20 and/or an optical signaling device 120, as described in more detail below.

The acoustic signaling device 20 described in more detail below consists of a speech and/or music module 21 which is connected to a power source 22 and an on/off switch 25 or a sensor 25'. According to an embodiment shown in Fig. 10, this speech and/or music module 21 is housed in a cap-shaped housing 26 which is plugged onto the free end 18 of the support rod 11 (Fig. 10).

The optical signaling device 120 consists of at least one luminous means 130, light-emitting diode 131 or lamp 132 connected to a power source 140 or of a number of lamps or light-emitting diodes connected to a power source 140, wherein the control, i.e. the switching on and off of the luminous means, takes place via a mechanical, light-optical or pressure-controlled on and off switch 150 or sensor 150'. The light or lights 132 or the light-emitting diode or light-emitting diodes 131 are arranged according to the embodiments shown in Fig. 10 on the canopy 13 or its peripheral edge 17 or on the free ends 16 of the individual rods 15 of the support frame 14, whereby the arrangement of the light-emitting diodes 131 or the lights 132 can also be provided in the form of a peripheral running light 160, whereby this running light then consists of a number of lights 132 or light-emitting diodes 131. The optical signal device 120 can also be designed as a running light arrow 180 (Fig. 10). The arrangement of the light-emitting diodes 131 or the lights 132 can also be in the form of lettering, motifs, company logos, numbers or the like. A figurative or multi-dimensional arrangement is also possible.

According to the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, the optical signaling device 120 is arranged on the free end 18 of the support rod 11, whereby this free end 18 can be designed as a tip 18' or as a button-like shaped body 18" (Figs. 1 and 2). The free support rod end 18 consists entirely or in sections of a translucent material and in its interior 11 at least one illuminant 130 is arranged, which is electrically connected to a power source 140 arranged in the support rod end 18 and an on and off switch 150 arranged on the support rod 11 or on the handle-like handle 12 of the support rod 11. In addition, it is also possible to connect the illuminant 130 to a power source 140 arranged in the handle-like handle 12 of the support rod 11 with the interposition of a switch 150 arranged on the support rod end 11 or on the handle-like handle 12 of the Carrying

According to a further embodiment according to Fig. 3 to 7, the illuminant 130, the power source 140 and the on/off switch 150 are arranged in a cap 121 which can be plugged onto the support rod end 18 and which is cylindrical or designed as a shield tip. The cap 121 consists entirely or only in the area of the illuminant 130 of a translucent material.

As shown in Fig. 1, in the embodiment shown there, the free support rod end 18 is provided with a sleeve-shaped intermediate piece 122 made of a translucent material with integrated lighting means 130, wherein the intermediate piece 122 is fastened by means of a screw, plug or clamp connection or by means of a sleeve-shaped adapter 123 made of a spring-elastic material, such as rubber or plastic, with a conical outer wall 123a for producing a plug connection to the two sections 18a, 18b of the support rod end 18.

To accommodate the power source 140, an externally accessible compartment or cavity 124 is provided in the handle-like handle 12 of the support rod 11, into which the power source 140, e.g. a battery, can be inserted. In addition, the handle-like handle 12 is provided with an on and off switch 150 that can be operated from the outside (Fig. 1).

It is also possible to form a lockable compartment 125 in the wall 122a of the sleeve-shaped intermediate piece 122 for accommodating the power source 140 (Fig. 4, 6 and 7). The power source 140 itself consists of a battery, button battery or a rechargeable battery.

In addition to the arrangement of the optical signaling device 120 on or in the free end 18 of the support rod 11, it is also possible to arrange the optical signaling device 120 on the canopy 13 or on the canopy covering in the form of variously designed illuminants

130. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 9A and 9B, the illuminant 130 is arranged in a cap-shaped molded body 135 made of translucent material. This cap-shaped molded body 135 is placed on the free end 16 of each rod 15 of the support frame 14 and is held on this free end 16 by means of a press, clamp, adhesive or snap-in connection. In addition to the illuminant 130, such as a lamp 132 or light-emitting diodes, the cap-shaped molded body 135 can accommodate

131 can also accommodate a power source and/or an on/off switch 150 or a sensor 150'. In order to be able to attach the cap-shaped molded body 135 to the free end 16 of one of the rods 15 of the support frame 14, the molded body 135 is provided with a bore 136 at one end (Fig. 9B).

A further optical signaling device 120 for attachment to the free end 18 of the support rod 11, i.e. on the umbrella tip 18' or on the button-like shaped body 18", is shown in Fig. 8. Here, the optical signaling device 120 consists of at least one light rod, for example three light rods 136, 136a, 136b, which are connected to one another via spring-elastic holders 137, such as bands. Each light rod 136, 136a, 136b consists of a translucent material and accommodates a light source 130, a power source 140 and a circuit board with an on and off switch 150. The light rods 136, 136a, 136b forming the light unit 230 can be plugged onto the free end 18 of the support rod 11 and held there by means of a clamp or press fit. The number of light rods in this light unit 230 can be chosen as desired. It is also possible to use the light rods with only one light source 130, whereby a power source 140 and an on/off switch 150 are then provided for all light sticks.

In addition, it is also possible to provide the canopy 13 of the umbrella 100 with lighting means 130, wherein the lighting means 130 are distributed on the outer wall surface and/or the inner wall surface of the canopy or are only arranged in the canopy edge area (Fig. 10). For example, at least one lighting means 130 or at least one light-emitting diode 131 or a light strip 160 made up of a number of lights 132 or light-emitting diodes 131 is arranged in the peripheral edge area 17 of the canopy 13 or the umbrella covering. Preferably, the lighting means 130 to be attached to the canopy or the umbrella covering are arranged on a circuit board made of a film or fabric and are attached to the fabric or film of the canopy by means of this circuit board, namely by means of a welded, sewn or adhesive connection. The lighting means 130 thus attached to the canopy are then preferably connected via a common power source 140 and a common on/off switch 150, whereby the switching on and off can also be controlled via a sensor.

The canopy 13 or the canopy covering can have a figurative and/or multi-dimensional shape. For example, the canopy 13 or the canopy covering can be provided with a print 113 of a fir/Christmas tree with candles on the outside wall, with lighting means 130 being arranged in the candle area (Fig. 10A). Furthermore, the canopy 13 or the canopy covering can have a figurative shape or a multi-dimensional design of a Christmas tree with candles, with lighting means 130 being arranged in the candle area.

The connecting cables between the on/off switch 150, the power source 140, a circuit board and the lamp 130 are in or on the bars 15 or ribs of the support frame 14 and/or on the

Umbrella covering or canopy 13 and/or on the support rod 11 and/or on or in the handle-like handle 12.

If a rotating running light 160 is used, this can be designed as an advertising medium.

The light source 130 itself is a light bulb or an LED, whereby the light source emits white light or colored light. The translucent material used consists of a crystal-clear or opaque plastic, a colored or color-coated crystal-clear plastic, whereby the color of the translucent material differs from the colored light emitted by the light source. The light source 130 can emit continuous light, all-round light or flashing light.

The acoustic signaling device 20 is formed by the speech and/or music module 21 which, as can be seen from Fig. 11, is arranged on a plate-shaped or film-shaped carrier. By means of this carrier, the speech and/or music module 21 is arranged on the canopy 13 or on the support rod 11 or on or in the handle-like handle 12, whereby a direct arrangement of the speech and/or music module 21 on the free end 18 of the support rod 11 or in the button-like molded body 18" is also possible. If the speech and/or music module 21 is to be attached to the umbrella covering, then it is advantageous if the carrier consists of a fabric cut or a foil cut, so that the entire unit can then be glued, sewn or welded onto the fabric of the umbrella canopy, for example. A programmable or pre-programmed or recordable speech and/or music module 21 is used, whereby the arrangement of the speech and/or music module 21 is such that the activation and deactivation of the speech and/or music module is controlled by a mechanical or light-optical or movement-triggered control by playing the speech and/or music recording is triggered. For this purpose,

An on/off switch 25 or a sensor 25' is then provided on the screen. Any other type of actuating device for switching the voice and/or music module on and off can be used.

The programmable or pre-programmed speech and/or music module 21 with a speech or music recording is arranged at a suitable point on the screen. This speech and/or music module 21, which is designed in a manner known per se, is connected to the mechanically or light-optically controlled on and off switch 25 in such a way that when the screen is opened or when an external influence occurs, the speech or music module is started up by playing back the speech or music recording. The speech and/or music module 21 comprises a power source 22, preferably with a battery (Fig. 11). The speech and/or music module 21 also has a loudspeaker indicated at 27 or a microphone-speaker unit 29 for recording and playback, the on and off switch for starting up the speech and/or music module 21 being controlled either via a mechanical control, such as a remote control. B. lever, or via a light-optical cell/sensor 25', which becomes active when light is incident or the light beam is interrupted and triggers control currents for starting up the speech and/or music module. The speech and/or music module 21 can also be designed as a flat panel. The on and off switch 25 which operates the speech and/or music module 21 can be arranged externally of the speech and/or music module 21 at any point on the screen.

The voice and/or music module 21 can be triggered using sound waves or by means of a touch keyboard. The voice and/or music module 21 can also be switched on and off in conjunction with a motion detector designed in a known manner. The activation of the voice and/or music module 21 for playback

of a voice and/or music recording is always such that the voice and/or music module is activated when exposed to external mechanical, optical, in particular light-optical or sound wave influences.

The voice and/or music recording can be played back continuously or personally, using a wide variety of voice and/or music recordings. The corresponding voice and/or music recording can be pre-programmed in the module 21. However, it is also possible to enter the desired texts into the module 21 yourself by using a recording and playback device 31 in order to then be able to play back this voice recording when required (Fig. 11).

In the embodiment according to Fig. 12, a circuit board-like blank is provided with a number of lights 132 or light-emitting diodes 131 connected to a power supply 32 and with a mechanical, light-optical or pressure-controlled on and off switch 25 or with at least one sensor 25', whereby the lights 132 or light-emitting diodes 131 can be distributed over the surface of the canopy. Instead of several lights or light-emitting diodes, only a single light or light-emitting diode can be provided as a light source. It is thus possible to provide certain surface areas of the canopy with a number of light-emitting diodes 131, which can be controlled in the same way as the voice and/or music module 21 described above. The lights 132 or light-emitting diodes 131 that are switched on go out after a predetermined time via a timer if no on and off switch is provided. It is also possible to operate the lights 132 or LEDs 131 using a commercially available switch, whereby the lights or LEDs can be in constant operation so that they are constantly lit. If the optical signal device 120 is designed as a moving light arrow 180 (Fig. 10, 12 and 14), then a circuit as shown in Fig. 15 can be used, for example. The light arrow 180 then consists of a number of rectangular LEDs arranged in the shape of an arrow. The circuit is constructed with just one IC, which however contains six inverters. Each inverter is connected to an RC network at the output. The inverter output must therefore first charge a capacitor via the resistor before the next inverter can be controlled. This circuit controls the LEDs step by step. The IC is designed in such a way that it can control the LEDs without any problems. The entire circuit only needs about 50 mA, for example, and can therefore be operated without any problems with a 9 V battery. Instead of a moving light arrow 180, the individual LEDs can also be used in the shape of hearts, stars or the like.

For example, the circuit shown in Fig. 16 can be used for the running light 160 used. This running light 160 consists of a corresponding number of LEDs. In the circuit example, for example, eight LEDs are connected to the Q and Q outputs of four data flip-flops. Four LEDs are therefore always lit, the others are off.

If the control commands at the information inputs of the flip-flops change, the LEDs connected to the outputs go out. The flip-flops are controlled in such a way that when the light state changes from one "constellation of four" to the next, a very nice wandering effect is created. Referring to the circuit in Fig. 10, the circuit is started with S1. When the supply voltage is switched on, this switch must be in position 1; on the data

A "1" is then sent to the input of the first flip-flop. The switch remains in position 1 until the "1" entered at the beginning has run through the entire chain; then the switch is moved to position 2. The Q output of the last flip-flop is then connected to the data input of the first flip-flop. The further cycles now run automatically. The frequency of the control pulses is determined by the charging and discharging time of the capacitor C1. Since both times depend on the resistance value in the base circuit (P1 and R10), the frequency of the control pulses and thus the running light frequency can be set with 1. The eight LEDs give off relatively little light, which is why the circuit in the specified version is suitable for domestic use, for example. If the LEDs are replaced by optocouplers, other lights, such as small light bulbs, can be controlled using suitable power levels. In addition to lights 132, light-emitting diodes 131 and the running light 160 with white light emission, these can also be designed in such a way that colored light is emitted.

The embodiment in which the screen is provided with a voice and/or music module 21 and with lighting means 130 or a running light 160 is not shown in the drawing, but such a configuration results from the combination described above.

The voice and/or music module 120 or its loudspeaker, its power source and its on and off switch are arranged in the support rod 11 or on the support rod 11 or in the handle-like handle 12 or on the handle-like handle 12 or in the support frame 14 or on the support frame 14 or on the umbrella canopy 13 or umbrella covering.

The on/off switch 25 for the voice and/or music module 21 and/or the on/off switch 150 for the lamps 130 are connected to the support frame 14 or its rods or ribs 15 in such a way that

that when the umbrella is opened, the voice and/or music module 21 for playing a melody or a pre-programmed or programmed text and/or the lighting means 130 of the optical signaling device 120 are activated and are deactivated when the umbrella is closed.

Fig. 17 shows a further embodiment of a central control unit for the acoustic signaling device 20 and/or the optical signaling device 120, namely in the form of a microcomputer 210 as a microprocessor. All components that may be present, such as on/off switches 25, 150, sensors 25', 150', the voice and/or music module 21 or a running light in the direction of the arrow 180, are connected to the microcomputer 210. This receives corresponding signals from the sensors 25, 25', 150, 150' and activates and controls the voice and/or music module 120 or the running light 180 accordingly. The microcomputer 210 ideally has a language vocabulary memory from which voice data can be transmitted to the voice and/or music module 120 for output via loudspeaker 27. Lighting patterns for the lights 132 or the LEDs 131 are also stored in the microcomputer 210 so that they can be called up as needed. In this way, a wide variety of voice outputs and/or lighting patterns can be displayed without having to replace a circuit of the lights 132 or the LEDs 131 or having to reprogram the voice and/or music module 21.

In a preferred development, a communication device is also provided, such as an infrared interface (IR interface) 212, which is also controlled and read by the microcomputer 210. The microcomputer 210 can communicate with external devices via this IR interface. For example, it is possible to write to the memory for language vocabulary or light patterns of the microcomputer 210, to use external sensors to trigger a voice output or a light effect, such as motion detectors or light

barriers, to connect to the microcomputer 210 or to control a correspondingly synchronized animation of corresponding elements via communication between IR interfaces of various individual acoustic and/or optical signaling devices.

Claims (26)

1.
