Description

Escalator handrail washing, for cleaning and disinfecting the handrails on both sides of escalators and moving walkways. Cleaning was previously done manually by wiping the moving handrail with a damp cloth, and the handrails were cleaned using muscle power by pressing and holding. By washing out the cloth(s), it could happen that parts of the handrail were not cleaned or that the cleaning process was delayed.

By means of the escalator handrail washing system, the rubber handrails are cleaned without interruption using a wet washing process.

The escalator handrail cleaner consists of two holders for the pad holder. In order to press these onto the rubber bands at the correct angle, they can be adjusted to the handrail to be cleaned using an adjusting screw. The adjusting screw has a right and left thread and is attached to a split threaded rod. By turning the adjusting screw, the PAD moves up or down. By using the threaded rod, the PAD can be adjusted by approx. 3 cm and thus adjusted to the angle of the handrail.

Commercially available hand pads in brown or black are used, depending on the degree of dirt on the handrail.

Above the PAD holder is the water supply, which keeps the PAD moist during the washing process.

The water is pumped to the PAD via a feed pump, a corresponding hose system supplies both cleaning devices with water, and the feed pump is permanently connected to one device.

Both devices are housed separately in a special water tray, one for the right and one for the left handrail. The trays are designed in such a way that they tilt slightly backwards, so that the water collects in the rear end of the tray.

There it can be taken up by the feed pump and both tubs are provided with a hose connection on the inside, which guarantees the connection of the tubs to each other.

The existing hose connection connects both tubs to each other and a constant water level is achieved, as well as only one feed pump is required.

The escalator handrail washing system enables continuous cleaning of the handrails in the shortest possible time. The handrails can be cleaned and disinfected using the device, with disinfection being an important consideration at airports and public buildings where many people of different nationalities come together.

An example of an escalator handrail cleaning system is explained in individual figures using sketches 01 to 03.

Figures 1 and 2 show the holder for the PAD in the water tray indicated under (7). The holder (1) carries the PAD (2) and the pump (4) for the water circuit, whereby the PAD(s) are moistened via the supply line (6). In order to adjust the angle of inclination to the handrail, the PAD holder can be adjusted up or down using the adjusting screw (3). This results in a stronger pressure and a larger surface area on the handrail to be cleaned, which is shown in Fig. 01 as (5).

Figure 3 shows two holding devices standing next to each other with a common pump (4) and the water supply line (6).

The water trays (7), Figure 4, are each equipped with a hose connection (8) in the rear lower part, by connecting the two water trays (7) a constant water level in the trays is achieved.

Figure 5 from sketch 03 shows a detail of the adjusting screw (3) with which the angle of inclination can be adjusted.

Figure 6 shows another enlarged section of the hose connections (8) of the two water trays (7).
