mit geringem Stickoxydgehalt.with low nitrogen oxide content.
It is known that by treating the air with electric arcs of flames of high voltage, considerable amounts of nitrogen can be burned to form nitrogen oxide (NO). Investigations in this regard have shown that the nitrogen can only be burned up to a few percent during this process, so that the air leaving the flame contains at most about 4 to 8 percent nitrogen oxide. In practical operations, however, you usually only achieve a nitrogen oxide content of around 2 percent. After cooling, this first product of combustion is oxidized voluntarily by the excess oxygen in the air to form nitrogen dioxide (NO 2 ), which can be converted into nitric acid by treatment with water. The latter process, however, requires very large absorption plants and provides only a small amount of marketable acid; the majority is obtained as a very dilute acid. The present process aims to convert all of the nitrogen oxides into marketable nitric acid in a simpler manner.
Nur ein sehr geringer Bruchteil des sich dabeiIt follows from the known properties of nitrogen dioxide ^ O 5 J that it must be able to be obtained from the mixture with air by strong cooling. However, the mixture obtained by electrical means of nitric oxide and air shows in passing through a tube cooled to -30 0 special behavior. Only a very small fraction of that
The nitrogen dioxide that forms is deposited on the pipe walls, the majority of which leaves the pipe as a fine mist that can only be obtained through very extensive cooling systems leaves, and even then not completely. This phenomenon of fogging that too in the conventional technical production of nitric acid from sulfuric acid and nitric acid causes a loss, falls in the nitric acid to be produced by electrical means therefore significant, since the percentage of the electrical Flame arc treated air is so low in nitrogen oxide.
According to the present process, everything is condensed in a very simple manner Nitrogen dioxide obtained by the mixture of air and nitrogen dioxide is sent through a very fast rotating drum, either the mixture beforehand or the drum itself is cooled by suitable precautions. You have to make sure that all gas must brush past the wall of the drum in order to experience the fastest rotation. The centrifugal force then hurls the nitrogen dioxide, which has condensed into a mist, at the same time with the condensed water vapor contained in the air on the wall, which can be closed with suitable precautions is provided so that the resulting liquid can be sucked out during operation can.
The further processing of the nitrogen dioxide removed from the gas mixture in this way to nitric acid now offers only minor difficulties. She can after the usual methods of regeneration of nitrogen oxides to 40-degree acid take place. Oxidation is also possible in the cold by means of electrolytically generated oxygen to bring about fuming and concentrated salt, pitric acid. possibly can the liquid obtained can also be used as such for suitable purposes.
A modification of the method described is possible in such a way that one the air mixture prior to passage through the centrifugal drum of a treatment Subjected with small amounts of water vapor. In this way one achieves that part of the nitrogen dioxide is converted into nitric acid is convicted. The quantities of water vapor must be measured in such a way that the nitric acid does not dilute. This is possible because the humidity in the air is nowhere near as great as that from it condensed water to convert the nitrogen dioxide into nitric acid enough.
