Abstract
Description
The invention describes the use of Lactobacillus animalis TMW1.972 and Lactobacillus salivarius TMW1.992 for the reduction of salmonellosis in poultry in the sense prophylaxis and therapy.
Salmonellosis pose a major threat to poultry and ornamental bird populations that are associated with high losses both from the death of the animals and from their reduced Productivity, weight gain and wellbeing go hand in hand. Prophylaxis and Therapy is currently often carried out via antibiotics with the associated problems of Development of resistance and possibly contamination of food from poultry production. By the use of competitive microorganisms can be compared, but not with them Risky effect can be achieved. By developing suitable strains that come from come from the animals themselves and therefore belong to the normal flora of healthy animals, the Application and approval of derived preparations and animal feed greatly simplified.
As an example it could be shown that the feeding of Lactobacillus animalis TMW1.972 and Lactobacillus salivarius TMW1.992 from ducks to a strong reduction of Salmonella in artificially infected herds of chickens and ducks and to reduce the risk of salmonellosis.
The pathogenicity of Salmonella and thus the actual triggering of an illness after The infestation of humans or animals is significantly influenced by their ability Bacteria are in the intestinal tract, attach to the mucous membrane and if necessary through this penetrate into the bloodstream and lymphatic system. By the presence colonization resistance may be caused by certain bacteria in the intestinal tract, which complicates or prevents the settlement of pathogens (Nurmi and Rantala, 1973). In addition, certain strains of bacteria can form antimicrobial substances that Immune system stimulate or the metabolic activity of the intestinal mucosal cells influence. The use of such organisms has so far been complicated by the fact that those that show the desired effects are not from the ecosystem (animal), in to whom they are to be used, are poorly characterized, cannot be clearly demonstrated and thus provable as the cause of the effect, or in undefined mixtures available. For this reason, poultry organisms have been used in Poultry isolated, thoroughly characterized and in terms of its usefulness for reduction of salmonella in poultry was examined.
Lactobacillus animalis TMW1.972 and Lactobacillus salivarius TMW1.992 have been characterized in terms of their physiology and taxonomy according to the latest state of the art. Chickens from ducks and chickens were fed in four different groups.
Group 1: administration of 10 10 poultry pathogenic salmonella (ducks)
Group 2: 2 days feeding with lactobacilli, administration of 10 10 poultry pathogenic salmonella, further daily administration of lactobacilli (ducks)
Group 3: like group 1 (chickens)
Group 4: like group 2 (chickens)
Control groups without bacteria (free of salmonella)
Salmonella excretion was examined over the course of 6 weeks.

Nature, 241: 210-211.Chicks in groups 2 and 4, which were fed with Lactobacillus animalis TMW1.972 and Lactobacillus salivarius TMW1.992, briefly excreted the administered Salmonella with an increased bacterial count. They could only stay in the intestinal tract in a greatly reduced number. Already on the second day after salmonella administration, the number of excreted salmonella was greatly reduced and dropped to zero after prolonged application ( Fig. 1 and 2).
