Description
The invention relates to an LED light for motor vehicles, the has at least one light-emitting diode as the light source.
Such an LED light is known from DE 197 28 763 A1. she has several light-emitting diodes connected in series, to which a PTC Resistor is connected upstream. The PTC resistance increases at increasing temperature its electrical resistance and limited thereby the operating current of the LEDs. The LEDs are each operated with an operating current that is less than or equal to that permitted at the respective ambient temperature The maximum current of the LEDs is. Between the cold operation and the case of high operating temperature finds a sliding Current reduction instead of the constant supply voltage of depends on the temperature of the PTC resistor. The previously known LED light has the disadvantage, however, that the operating current of the Light emitting diodes, especially at high ambient temperatures a correspondingly large voltage to those on the PTC resistor drops, a power loss on the PTC resistor causes that as heat is released to the environment and to warm the LEDs contributes. Despite the reduced at high temperatures Operating current also occurs at the LEDs themselves certain power loss, whereby these are additionally heated. The LEDs must therefore be comparatively high Operating temperature must be dimensioned, which is why the manufacture of the LED light is still comparatively expensive.
There is therefore the task of an LED light at the beginning to create mentioned type that is inexpensive to manufacture and in which the light-emitting diode (s) avoid an upstream PTC resistance against damage due to excessive operating or Junction temperature is (are) protected.
The solution to this problem is that for the light-emitting diode (s) a protective circuit is provided which has at least one Temperature sensor for measuring the ambient temperature and at least a switching means for switching off the light-emitting diode (s) when it is exceeded has a predetermined temperature threshold value.
According to the invention, at least one light emitting diode is used for the If a specified temperature threshold is exceeded, the shuttering is removed tet. As a result, the LED is easily too high Operating and junction temperatures protected. The invention can be used especially with such LED lights, which is not used or only rarely used at high ambient temperatures become. For example, one is used as a reading lamp in one Motor vehicle-provided LED lights usually in strong Sun exposure and therefore not at high ambient temperatures switched on, so that the deactivation of the LED (s) at these Temperatures from the user of the lamp practically not as disadvantageous is felt. Advantageously, can LED light according to the invention in comparison to an LED light, in which the LED current is reduced at high temperatures, the light emitting diode (s) for a correspondingly smaller one, by the Temperature threshold value of the protection circuit specified operation temperature dimensioned, making the LED light cost-effective stig can be manufactured. The lower the temperature threshold is fixed, the higher the operating current of the LED be designed and thus the number of light-emitting diodes of the lamp accordingly reduced and / or the light intensity in normal Temperature range must be increased. Falls below the surrounding temp temperature on the LED (s) again the specified one The light-emitting diode (s) will become the temperature threshold again switched on.
An interior light is already known from DE 44 10 584 C1, which has two light bulbs as light sources, at least of which a by means of a protection having a temperature sensor circuit is switched off when a predetermined temperature threshold value is exceeded. With this non-generic interior light However, the protection circuit is only for the protection of the light bulb NEN illuminated components of the lamp in front of the in comparison to a light emitting diode significantly higher operating temperature Light bulbs, but not provided to protect the light bulbs themselves hen.
In an appropriate embodiment of the invention Temperature sensor and the switching means through a bimetal switch educated. This can be done, for example, with the LED (s) be connected in series. Overall, this results in one LED light that can be manufactured particularly cost-effectively.
In another embodiment of the invention, the temperature is sensor connected to a comparison device, for comparison it with the temperature sensor determined temperature measurement the temperature threshold, the comparison device with the Switching means for switching off the LED (s) in control connection stands. The temperature sensor can, for example, be a hot or PTC thermistor. The LED (s) is (are) below Avoidance of mechanical contact prone to failure heat protected.
It is particularly advantageous if the temperature sensor is thermal is conductively connected to the LED (s). The light emitting diode is then even better against their high junction temperature pn junction protected.
In a particularly expedient embodiment of the invention the LED light on several LEDs, at least one this light-emitting diode is designed for an operating temperature, which is greater than the temperature threshold of the protection circuit for the other LEDs and the one for the larger one Operating temperature trained (n) LED (s) in front of the Protection circuit connected to a common power supply is (are). So only a part of the light emitting diodes of the LED The lamp is switched off when the temperature threshold is exceeded tet, while the other LEDs continue to be energized. Thus, at least one remains even at high ambient temperatures LED activated so that the user of the LED light can detect proper function. If necessary, the LED (s) designed for the higher operating temperature have a different color than the other LEDs. The for the larger operating temperature trained LED (s) can (can) also at least when the temperature limit is exceeded are energized with an operating current that is smaller than the operating current of the other LEDs at a tempera ture that is less than the temperature threshold.
In a particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention the LED light is arranged in a makeup mirror and for manual switching on and off whose LED (s) is at least an electrical switch is provided, in particular by Positioning the makeup mirror in the viewing position and / or by positioning one intended for the makeup mirror Cover is actuated. Because a makeup mirror usually comes with high ambient temperature is not used, the user the LED light deactivates the LED (s) at high Virtually don't notice temperatures. Thus, the LEDs can be protected from overheating practically without sacrificing comfort. At temperatures below the temperature threshold, the LEDs then with a correspondingly large operating current be energized without the risk of thermal damage the LEDs are given. The LED light therefore shines Temperatures below the temperature threshold one accordingly great light intensity.
In another advantageous embodiment of the invention the LED light adjacent to a door handle of a vehicle door arranged to illuminate the door handle and / or the door apron. In this embodiment, the LED light is usually only at night and therefore at ambient temperatures below the Temperature threshold must be switched on. The LED light can for this purpose, for example, on the switch for switching on and / or off the low beam of the motor vehicle.
Es zeigen:Below are exemplary embodiments of the invention based on the Drawing explained in more detail. Show it:

Fig. 2 is a circuit diagram of an LED light, in which the protective circuit has a temperature sensor and a threshold switch, only a portion of the light emitting diodes can be switched off by the protective circuit.
A light-emitting diode for motor vehicles, designated as a whole by 1, has a plurality of light-emitting diodes 2 a, 2 b as the light source. In the embodiment according to FIG. 1, a part of these light-emitting diodes 2 a, 2 b is assigned a protective circuit which has a bimetal switch 3 for switching off the light-emitting diodes 2 a when a predetermined temperature threshold value is exceeded. The bimetallic switch 3 is connected in series with the light-emitting diodes 2 a and opens its switching contacts when the temperature of the switching contacts exceeds the predetermined temperature threshold, which can be 60 ° C., for example. The connecting branch between the first connections 4 a of the LEDs 2 a and the first power supply connection 5 of a power supply for the LED light 1 is then interrupted, so that the LEDs 2 a are de-energized. Overheating of the LEDs 2 a is thereby avoided. The light-emitting diodes 2 a therefore only need to be dimensioned for a maximum operating temperature corresponding to the comparatively low temperature threshold, which enables a correspondingly inexpensive LED light 1 .
When falling below the predetermined temperature threshold, the electrical contacts of the bimetallic switch 3 close, so that the LEDs 2 a with their first connection 4 a via the current limiting resistors 6 a with the first supply connection 5 of the power supply and with their second connection 7 a with the second supply connection 8 Power supply are connected. The LED circuit is then closed and the LEDs 2 a are energized with the operating current given by the operating voltage present between the supply connections 5 and 8 and the current limiting resistors 6 a.
In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 2, the protective circuit has a comparison device 9 , one input of which is connected to a first connection 10 of a temperature sensor 11 designed as a temperature-dependent electrical resistor. The second connection 12 of the temperature sensor 11 is connected to the second supply connection 8 of the power supply. The temperature sensor 11 is connected in series with an electrical resistance not shown in the drawing, which is connected with its one connection to the first connection 10 of the temperature sensor 11 and with its second connection to the first supply 5 of the power supply. A reference potential which defines the temperature threshold value is present at a second input of the comparison device 9, not shown in the drawing.
The switching output 13 of the comparison device 9 is connected via the current limiting resistors 6 a to the first connection 4 a of the light-emitting diodes 2 a. These are connected with their second connection 7 a to the second supply connection 8 of the power supply. The comparison device 9 has an electrical switching means which is in control connection with the temperature sensor 11 and by means of which an electrical potential corresponding to the potential of the second supply connection 8 is applied to the switching output 13 when the predetermined temperature threshold value is exceeded. The LEDs 2 a are then de-energized. If the ambient temperature measured by means of the temperature sensor 11 falls below the predetermined temperature threshold, there is a potential at the switching output 13 approximately corresponding to the potential of the first supply connection 5 of the power supply, whereby the LEDs 2 a are energized with a predetermined operating current.
The LEDs 2 a are thermally conductively connected to the bimetallic switch 3 ( FIG. 1) or the temperature sensor 11 ( FIG. 2). This is illustrated in the drawing by a dashed line.
The light emitting diode 2 b is connected with its connections 4 b, 7 b before the protective circuit to the supply connections 5 , 8 of the power supply. This LED 2 b is dimensioned for an operating temperature that is greater than the temperature threshold of the protective circuit for the other LEDs 2 a. The between the first supply terminal 5 and the first terminal 4 b of the LED 2 b arranged current limiting resistor was 6 b has a greater electrical resistance than the current limiting resistors 6 a of the LED 2 a, that is, the operating current of the LED 2 b is less than the operating current of the LEDs 2 a. When the temperature threshold is exceeded, only the LEDs 2 a are switched off by the protective circuit, while the LED 2 b remains switched on. The light-emitting diode 2 b thereby serves at the same time as a function display, which signals the proper function of the LED light 1 to the user, in particular at ambient temperatures which are greater than the temperature threshold. The light-emitting diode 2 b may be a colored light-emitting diode, while the light-emitting diodes 2 a are preferably white.
In the exemplary embodiment, the LED light 1 is arranged adjacent to a make-up mirror, which is pivotally mounted on the headlining of the motor vehicle from a rest position into a viewing position. The make-up mirror or a part which can be pivoted therewith is connected to an electrical switch 14 , the switch contacts of which are closed when the make-up mirror is positioned in the viewing position and opened in the rest position. The electrical switch 14 is arranged between the supply connection 5 of the power supply and the LEDs 2 a, 2 b.
The LED light 1 for motor vehicles, thus has at least one light-emitting diode 2 a as a light source, for which a protective circuit is provided. This has at least one temperature sensor 11 for measuring the ambient temperature and at least one switching means for switching off the light-emitting diode (s) 2 a when a predetermined temperature threshold value is exceeded.
