Die Erfindung betrifft ein Effektgarn mit einem Seelenfaden und einer Ummantelung des Seelenfadens aus thermoplastischem Werkstoff. Derartige Effektgarne werden im Extrusions-Umman­ telungsverfahren hergestellt und kommen beispielsweise im De­ korationsbereich oder auch in der Innenausstattung von Kraft­ fahrzeugen zum Einsatz. Effektgarne zeichnen sich dadurch aus, daß ein aus einem Garn oder Zwirn bestehender Seelenfa­ den mit einem thermoplastischen Material ummantelt wird. Der Seelenfaden dient als reine Armierung, die dazu dient, daß das ummantelte Garn insbesondere in Bezug auf die Dehnung problemlos verarbeitet werden kann.The invention relates to a fancy yarn with a soul thread and a covering of the soul thread made of thermoplastic Material. Somit wird erfindungsge­ mäß die Wirkung des Effektgarns nicht durch die Einfärbung der Ummantelung, sondern durch eine Varianz des Seelenfadens erzielt. Somit ist im Gegensatz zum Stande der Technik erfin­ dungsgemäß die Oberfläche des Seelenfadens variabel und dec­ kend eingefärbt und von der transparenten Ummantelung umge­ ben. Die Transparenz der Ummantelung kann variieren, bei­ spielsweise zwischen glasklar und milchigtrüb. Erfindungsgemäß ist vorgesehen, daß der thermoplastische Werkstoff vor dem Aufbringen aufgeschäumt und dann in diesem aufgeschäumten Zustand auf den Seelenfaden aufgebracht wird. Das Aufschäumen des thermoplastischen Werkstoffes erfolgt in weiterer Ausgestaltung der Erfindung durch Zugabe eines chemischen oder physikalischen Treibmittels. Diese Verfahrensweise ermöglicht ein "steuerbares" Aufschäumen des thermoplastischen Werkstoffes, wobei dem thermoplastischen Werkstoffvorzugsweise zwischen 0,1 bis 5 Gewichtsprozent Treibmittel zugegeben wird. Der Einsatz eines vor dem Aufbringen aufgeschäumten thermoplastischen Werkstoffs führt zu einer weicheren, textileren Oberfläche des Effektgarns. Im Vergleich zum Einsatz eines nicht aufgeschäumten thermoplastischen Werkstoffs führt die Ummantelung mit der gleichen Menge von thermoplastischem Werkstoff in aufgeschäumtem Zustand zu einer Erhöhung der Ummantelungs- Endstärke.
