Abstract

The combined fax modem and card reader provides a single module that contains a FAX modem (2) and a card reader unit (1,4). Dadurch fallen Verkabelungs- und Schnittstellen-Problematiken weg, und die Handhabung des tragbaren PCs wird nicht beeinträchtigt. Das Gerät vermittelt einem Kunden einen professionelleren Eindruck und bietet eine erhöhte Sicherheit gegen Manipulationen gegenüber einer Lösung mit offenen Kabelanschlüssen. Außerdem ist die Anfälligkeit gegen mechanische Beeinträchtigungen sehr viel geringer. Auch die Stromversorgung der Erfindung ist über den PCMCIA-Anschluß möglich, so daß keine weiteren Netzkabel oder Batterien notwendig sind. Das Modem ist noch einfacher zu handhaben, da das Line-Modul ebenfalls in dem gemeinsamen Gehäuse untergebracht wird und eine weitere Verkabelungsverbindung entfällt. Außerdem ist der Anschluß des Modems an ein mobiles Telefon möglich.
