Diese Eigenschaft des Nickels beruht wahrscheinlich darauf, daß ; The inviolability of nickel during anode electrolysis in alkali is the reason for its multiple use in the construction of collectors with unchangeable, alkaline electrolyte; every other practically usable metal is more or less attacked during anode electrolysis in every electrolyte. This property of nickel is probably due to the fact that
Verwendung des reinen Nickels keine wirtschaftlichen Vorteile gewonnen werden.ίο the highly oxidized nickel hydrate that forms at the beginning of the electrolysis is completely insoluble in alkali and also has the ability to cover the metal surface underneath in an extremely thin layer invisible to the eye and to protect it against further oxidation. However, as is known, nickel is a relatively expensive metal and the cost of its use in collectors is also substantially increased by the fact that it cannot be machined without a relatively substantial expense, e.g. B. roll out to thin sheets or fine wires, etc. respectively. lets move out. These circumstances have heretofore been a serious obstacle to the manufacture of fixed electrolyte headers using electrodes made of nickel.
Attempts have therefore been made to replace the nickel with other suitable metals, e.g. B. iron, to replace these metals in a suitable manner (z. B. by electroplating) with a thin layer of nickel. Since, however, such nickel plating cannot take place after the completion of the carrier, but must precede the processing of the metal, the surface of the underlying metal being slightly exposed, and furthermore a well-adhering nickel layer (especially on iron) not without costly and time-consuming operations can be produced, this method cannot be used to gain any economic advantages compared to the costs of using the pure nickel.
So z. The present invention is based on the observation that a certain amount of Nickel (also a relatively minor one) in an alloy that or the rest in the Alloy incoming metals against corrosion during anode electrolysis in alkali able to protect. So z. B. is an alloy of equal parts zinc and nickel very little eaten, while how known, zinc alone dissolves completely.
Diese Wirkung des Nickels beruht wohl darauf, daß, nachdem die ersten löslichen Metallteilchen von der Metalloberfläche entfernt worden sind, die leeren Räume mit dem oben erwähnten hohen Nickelhydrat ausgefüllt werden, wobei dieses einen größeren Platz einnimmt als die Nickelpartikelchen, aus denen es gebildet wurde, und die entfernten anderen Metallteilchen zusammen, soThis effect of the nickel is probably due to the fact that after the first soluble Metal particles have been removed from the metal surface, the empty spaces with the Above mentioned high nickel hydrate are filled, this being a larger one Takes up space as the nickel particles from which it was formed and those removed other metal particles together, like that
daß also, wenn der Gehalt an Nickel ein hinreichender war, diese Räume vollständig ausgefüllt werden.so that if the nickel content was sufficient, these spaces were completely filled will.
The surface will therefore look just like after a short period of electrolysis the surface of the anode-electrolyzed pure nickel behave.
Nice. a nickel content of 30 percent is sufficient for the most part To protect the alloy completely against pitting.
Those metals are primarily suitable for alloying with nickel, their oxygen compounds are practically chemically insoluble in alkali solutions, such as iron, copper, etc.
Da diese Metalle wesentlich billiger sindBecause these metals are much cheaper
als Nickel, so ist es klar, daß die Kosten der Legierung bei einem größeren Gehalt an solchen Metallen sich bedeutend niedriger stellen als diejenigen des reinen Nickels.than nickel, it is clear that the cost of the alloy at a greater content such metals are significantly lower than those of pure nickel.
In addition, there is the fact that the alloys are mostly more easily fluid than pure nickel, and because of that and for other reasons they are better too Fine wires or thin ribbons etc. can be processed.
As a result of this procedure, the cost of the positive electrode carriers will be up reduced to one third or even less that of pure nickel.
Suitable alloys are e.g. B. 30 to 40 percent nickel with BEzw. 70 to 60 percent Copper, 25 to 35 percent nickel with resp.
75 bis 65 Prozent Eisen, mit oder ohne Zusatz von Kupfer oder dergl.75 to 65 percent iron, with or without the addition of copper or the like.
The negative electrode carriers can also be made from the same alloys will. Furthermore, the alloys can be used with advantage for the production of other metal parts of the collector, especially for those parts that are oxidizing The effects of air in the presence of alkali, such as B. certain 'contact parts, the vessel, etc.
B. Zink, Zinn usw.In order to promote the possibility of editing, furthermore in order to increase the management ability multiply, etc., both pure nickel and its alloys can be used for special purposes small amounts of metals whose oxides are soluble in alkali are added to the metals mentioned above are, such as B. zinc, tin, etc.
