Tielfach werden Zwiebelgewächse für die Bepflanzung z.B. von Grabstätten nicht verwendet, weil Wühlmäuse oder Maulwürfe die Zwiebeln bald nach der Pflanzung zernagen oder ganz fressen oder die jungen Triebe beschädigen. Der hierdurch hervorgerufene Schaden ist groß. Dies kann mittels des neuerungsgemäßen Pflanzenschutzkastens verhindert werden, der aus einem Kasten besteht, dessen Wände aus einem geeigneten Geflecht gebildet sind und in dem sich die Zwiebeln befinden. Die Maschen des Geflechts sind dabei so groß, daß die Pflanzentriebe hindurchwachsen können, ohne sich zu beschädigen. Allerdings dürfen die Maschen nicht so groß sein, daß die Zwiebelfresser wie Wühlmäuse und Maulwürfe hindurehschlüpfen können. Der Geflechtkasten hat vorzugsweise oben einen Deckel, der den Sand der Kastenseite vorzugsweise mit einigen Zentimetern überdeckt, so daß ein sicherer Verschluß gegen die lager gewährleistet ist. Torzugsweise bildet die obere Wandung des neuerungsgemäßen Pflanzenschutzkastens den Deckel, die seitliche Teile aufweist, mit denen sie über die Seitenwände ragt.
