Werkstoff für Schmuckstücke, insbesondere für Armband- und TaschenuhrenMaterial for jewelry, in particular for wrist and pocket watches
Sintered hard materials are used as a material for tools and wearing parts of all kinds are used extensively. Above all, they have practical application Carbides of tungsten and titanium with small additions of so-called auxiliary metals, preferably iron, cobalt and nickel, found. People have also thought of making wristwatch cases out of sintered carbides to manufacture. Because of the high strength and hardness the sintered carbides of tungsten and titanium are made from Housings made from these materials are not only very resistant to crushing and crushing, but they are also insensitive to damage to the surface from scratching and scratching. The carbides of tungsten and titanium previously used for this purpose, however, give because of their steel gray Color of the cases, even if they are superficially polished to a high gloss, an unsightly appearance, which is perceived as a disadvantage because watches are also often viewed as pieces of jewelry.
Dieser Nachteil wird durch die Erfindung vermieden. Sie betrifft einen Werkstoff für Schmuckstücke, insbesondereThis disadvantage is avoided by the invention. It relates to a material for jewelry, in particular

für Gehäuse von Armband- und Taschenuhren. Der neue Werkstoff zeichnet sich dadurch aus, daß er mindestens 70 Vol.# - vorzugsweise 90 Vol.-#, Hartstoffe mit goldähnlicher farbe, wie Tantalkarbid, Zirkonnitrid, Titannitrid, Vanadiumnitrid, einzeln oder zu mehreren, enthält·for cases of wrist and pocket watches. The new material is characterized by the fact that it contains at least 70 Vol. # - preferably 90 Vol .- #, hard materials with a gold-like color, such as tantalum carbide, zirconium nitride, titanium nitride, vanadium nitride, individually or in groups
The production of molded parts from the new material can be carried out in a known manner by sintering. To facilitate the sintering process, the hard materials with a gold-like color can still have a low melting point Auxiliary metals such as iron, cobalt or nickel can be added. Above all, they have proven themselves for the present purpose Nickel-containing materials because of their particularly good corrosion resistance. This can be increased even further, if a mixture of nickel and chromium in a ratio of 10: 1 to 3: 1 is used as the auxiliary metal. By this measure it can also be achieved that the material is only weakly ferromagnetic (saturation value 4 3Γ6 "* smaller than 20 Gauss) or becomes completely non-magnetic, which can be an advantage when used for clocks. It is It is also possible to replace up to half of the chrome with copper. By adding up to 10 vol .- # of auxiliary metals the gold-like color of hard materials, such as tantalum carbide, is hardly influenced. In individual In cases, e.g. with titanium nitride, additions of auxiliary metal up to 30 vol .- # can be used.
For the selection of the hard materials, among other things, the following is decisive whether you have a high spec. Weight that comes close to that of gold for pieces of jewelery, wants to aim for, or whether one wants to relatively low spec. Weight prefers, In the former case one becomes tantalum carbide as hard material with gold-like Use color and in the latter case zirconium

nitrid, Titannitrid und/oder Vanadiumnitrid.nitride, titanium nitride and / or vanadium nitride.
For the powder metallurgical processing of the new material, the usual methods in hard metal technology can be used. The starting powders are mixed and, if necessary, pressed to form the desired molded parts with the aid of additives that support the press. Following this, the compacts can either be sintered up in one operation, or they can first pre-sintered, subjected to post-processing and only subsequently sintered up. It is also possible to sinter the materials according to the invention by pressure sintering to bring them to the desired shapes. The finishing is done by grinding and polishing. Because of the high Hardness of the material, it is advisable to use diamond discs for this work.
Wristwatches that are equipped with cases made of the material according to the invention are distinguished by both a high resistance to mechanical and corrosive attacks, as well as a very attractive one Appearance that gives them the character of jewelry. These advantages are particularly evident, if the watches are worn by people who are active in sports or who carry out a manual activity.
The invention also includes pieces of jewelry such as bangles, finger rings, whereby a particular advantage should be emphasized that they are hardly ever worn for very long periods of time lose wall thickness and weight.
