eignet.Method for treating exhaust gases from internal combustion engines With
with the method according to the invention it is possible to prevent chemical reactions
or to delay, eo that it deals with exhaust gases from internal combustion engines
suitable.
Blektrodenplatte 237*. Hierdurch wird zwischen beiden Elektroden eine
Spannung erzeugt.Figures 1 and 2 show an application example for this, namely an exhaust system for attachment to the exhaust of internal combustion engines in order to convert imperfectly burned exhaust gases with the help of a catalyst completely into carbon dioxide. The exhaust system comprises a cylindrical part 1.oo with an outer wall 1o1 and the bottom eo2. An opening 103 for the inlet of the exhaust gases from the exhaust pipe 104 is provided in the lower region of the outer wall 1o1. A compressed air supply pipe 105 is attached in the upper part of the outer wall. A wire cylinder 1o8, which is held by two ring walls 1o6 and 1o7, is arranged in the interior of the exhaust cylinder. The wire cylinder has the cylindrical jacket wall 109 and the end walls 11o and 111. It consists of a fine wire mesh, which is fine enough to prevent the grains of a catalyst 112 placed in it from passing through. A18 catalyst are z. B. 30 micron grains of platinum activated aluminum are used. A group of cylindrically arranged ultrasonic generators 113 is provided around the outer surface of the wire basket 1o9. These ultrasound generators are attached to the annular walls 1o6 and 1o7 with support arms 114. A second such ultrasound generator group 116 is arranged under the bottom wall of the wire cylinder and held on supports 117. The exciter plates of the ultrasonic generator groups 113 and 116 are connected to an alternating current source 121 via lines 119 and 12o. The cylindrical arrangement of the ultrasonic generator group 113 enables the generation of a heterogeneous wave structure within the wire cylinder 108. The ultrasonic waves are directed radially inwards and each reflection is out of phase with the one that has not yet been reflected, so that there are no standing waves and therefore no stationary nodes. Those waves which emerge through the ultrasound generator group 116 through the longitudinal axis of the cylinder upwards and through the upper end wall 111 are not reflected and are therefore progressive. Therefore, the waves emanating from the ultrasonic generator groups 113 and 116 cannot cross each other in an orderly manner and cannot form a regular network of waves. There is thus produced an irregular, non-stationary wave field in the entire wire cylinder 1o8. The catalyst grains are therefore continuously moved and no reaction products can adhere to the surface of the catalyst grains 112, so that the catalyst cannot be poisoned. In the case of catalysts, there is often a surface change in relation to the external chemical characteristic, accompanied by the appearance of a semiconductor property: Since only the surface of a catalyst is effective for a chemical process, it is evident that any impurities which penetrate the surface reduce the effectiveness of the catalyst adversely affect when ein'be-etimmtes exceed measure. This problem of exhaust gases from Verbrennungsmaeehinen occurs particularly when katalytifchen immolation because this lead compounds deposit on the Platinobernäehe the catalyst. However, the platinum layer is very thin and therefore tolerates little impurities . in the illustrated device, the nodes of the ultrasonic waves are variable with time so that the catalyst particles moves continuously and will be shaken and no poisoning of th K®talyeatora by impurities and other reaction products may entreten. the cylinder in the exhaust The prevailing movement of the gas particles accelerates the chemical process of the analytical combustion of air and unburned hydrocarbons. Figures 3 and 4 show a device for cooling the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine. The exhaust of the engine is connected through the pipe 266 having a gas filter 267, respectively. In the pipe 2t6 is the undersurface of a mosaic 268 so that the electrode plate 236 "is inside the pipes, while the electrode 237% faces outwards. The exhaust gases passing through the pipes heat the electrode plate 236, so that it is much higher temperatures up has, as the outer Blektrodenplatte 237 *. This voltage is generated between both electrodes.
In Strömungeriohtung unterhalb der ersten Mosaikplatte Ist
eine
weitere Mosaikplatte 27o in der gleichen Weise einge-
baut,
in ihren
z.B. Stickoxyd, in der Ferrosulphatlösung zurückgehalten. Auch andere
Be-
angebracht, in denen Rückflußventilkugeln
297 in den Nip-
peln 298 zwischen den beiden Zwische, nden
liegen.
ten. In the direction of flow below the first mosaic plate, a further mosaic plate 27o is installed in the same way that is operated as a heat pump in that the current generated by the mosaic arrangement 268 is used to generate a temperature difference between the electrodes of the Koeaikplatta 270 . For this purpose, the electrode 230 of the generator mosaic 268 is connected via the conductor 274 to the electrode 2e6 "of the heat pump mosaic 270 , while in a similar manner the electrodes 237" of the generator mosaic 268 are connected to the electrode 237 "of the heat pump mosaic 272 through the conductor 275 is electrically connected . The current generated in the lionaik plate 27a thus durohfliedt the mosaic plate 272, which therefore extracts further heat from the Auapuffgaaen and cools down considerably in the exhaust pipe. The gas filter 267 comprises a closed container 278 which has two intermediate walls 279 and 28o . Share these partitions the container into an upper space 2819 a medium- sized Raun 282 and a lower space 283: The partition wall 28o is penetrated by a number of tubes 285 that hang down and eind provided at the top with apertures 286: The lower ends of these tubes are expanded and open to accommodate 29o polyethylene valve balls . These balls can move axially in their openings so that they can close the pipes by resting against the valve rings 289. All material used for the manufacture of the same can for example stainless steel no. The lower space 283 is filled with a supersaturated aqueous solution of ferrosulphate up to a level above the ends of the lower tubes 285. In order to keep this solution always saturated, there is a sufficient supply of ferrosulphate grains or crystals 292 at the bottom of the lower tree 283 . The polyethylene balls 29o are specifically lighter than the ferrosulphate solution, ao that they serve as a float and therefore act as backlash valves when they rest against the conically tapered end of the valve seat . In any event, the valves allow the exhaust gases to pass from the central space 282 through the pipes 285 into the ferro-sulphate solution of the lower space. During this passage, harmful compounds such as nitrogen oxide are retained in the ferrosulphate solution. Other components of the exhaust gases with a boiling point above about 25o C are also retained in solution , as is the water that is obtained as the combustion product of the hydrocarbon. The carbon dioxide and carbon dioxide, which have now been cleaned of nitrogen oxide and other substances, pass through the solution and emerge from the pipe 293. In the intermediate walls 279 and 28o openings 296 are also made, in which reflux valve balls 297 lie in the nipples 298 between the two intermediate ends . This arrangement serves to ensure passage of the exhaust gases from the lower space 283 into the upper space 281 .
