Cylinder liner, in particular for reciprocating internal combustion engines
The invention relates to a cylinder liner, in particular for reciprocating internal combustion engines,
which has an outer flange with which it is clamped in the machine frame
is.
Cylinder liners of internal combustion engines are mainly made of cast iron. As a rule, they have a flange at the upper end which fits into a recess in the machine frame and is held in this recess by the screwed-on cylinder head above. To avoid tension, the transition from the cylindrical part of the cylinder liner to the flange facing the crankcase must be rounded off as large as possible. This rounding causes a correspondingly large bevel on the recess in the machine frame, which leads to an increase in the outside diameter of the flange. The consideration of the correct shape of the flange at its transition into the cylindrical part of the liner and the requirement to achieve the smallest possible clamping torque contradict each other. When designing an internal combustion engine, the construction effort is also important. The aim is to keep this as small as possible. As a result, incorrect dimensions are possible at the transition between the flange and the cylinder liner under discussion here. But cracks can appear at this point even if the rating is generally sufficient. The * invention aims to overcome the existing difficulties; tiöen. This is achieved in that the flange is connected to the cylinder liner as a special part. The separation of the cylinder liner and flange has the consequence that no more stresses can occur at the endangered point. In the context of the invention, it is particularly contemplated to place the flange on the cylinder liner by means of a shrink connection. The invention makes it possible to advantageously manufacture the flange from a different material than the cylinder liner. According to a further concept of the invention, if the cylinder liner is made of cast iron, the flange should be made of steel. The greater coefficient of thermal expansion of steel means that the flange can be pulled onto the cylinder liner more firmly than in the case of the cast iron version. In order to prevent the cylinder liner from slipping out of the flange as a result of the forces occurring during operation of the internal combustion engine in the direction of the crankcase, the bore of the flange with which it rests on the cylinder liner can be turned away from the cylinder head by a step on its Side be narrowed, whereby the cylinder liner in the area of the flange corresponds in its outer contour to the bore of the Flanachee.

To cool the cylinder liner better at its end facing the cylinder head,
namely dadueh that according to the invention the bore of the flange is a circumferential

shown.

So könnte z. B.

connected to the cylinder liner. The shrink-fitting of the flange can be done in a known manner
: can be done by exposure to cold or heat. However, the invention is not directed to a shrink fit connection
limited; any other suitable connection of the flange 4 with the cylinder liner

It is also possible to think of screwing the flange 4 onto the cylinder liner 1

attached flange. It has the peculiarity that its bore 9, with which
it sits on the cylinder liner, through a step 10 on its from the cylinder head
facing away from the side is narrowed, the cylinder liner 5 in the region of the flange
corresponds in its outer contour to the bore of the flange. This version has
the advantage that under the influence of during operation in the internal combustion engine
