Filter fabrics In numerous technical processes, fabrics made of natural fibers are used for filter purposes, be it for liquid or gas filtering. It is known that filter fabrics of this type have various disadvantages in that, for example, they have a low resistance to chemicals, putrefactive bacteria and mechanical stresses occurring during use. For this reason, filter fabrics made of natural threads or fibers have often been replaced by those made of fully synthetic threads or fibers, such as polyamides, polyvinyl chloride or polyethylene. However, even these filter fabrics do not meet all of the requirements placed on them. Thus, on the one hand, filter fabrics made of polyamides show excellent tear and abrasion resistance, but on the other hand only limited resistance in acidic liquids or in the presence of acidic vapors. Also the change in length. In many cases, the fabric is found to be a nuisance when there are fluctuations in humidity in the surrounding air. Filter fabrics made of polyvinyl chloride and polyethylene have the desired; resistance to acids and alkalis, but the low temperature limit is often criticized here 0
for filter fabrics made of polyvinyl chloride a maximum of 70 ° and off
Polyethylene is 100 ° to 1100. Furthermore interferes with filter
fabrics made of polyvinyl chloride and polyethylene, especially in the case of polyethylene, which was obtained by the high pressure process, the insufficient tear strength.
Mischpolymerisate kommen beispielsweise infrage : Äthylen, Isobutylen, Butylen,
Acrylnitril, Vinylchlorid, Vinylidenchlorid, Vinylalkohol. It has now been found that filter fabrics in which weft and warp
made of yarns, threads, wires or ribbons made of polypropylene or a copolymer
Made of at least 85 feet of propylene and up to 15% of another simple or substituted one
Olefins or a mixture of at least 85% polypropylene and up to 15%
of another simple or substituted polyolefin, the disadvantages mentioned
do not exhibit. As simple or substituted olefins for the production of
Copolymers are possible, for example: ethylene, isobutylene, butylene,
Acrylonitrile, vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride, vinyl alcohol.
an
allein be-
"den entlialten. AuAser-
Examples of polyolefins that can be mixed with polypropylene are: polybutylene or polystyrene. The filter fabrics according to the invention are characterized by tear and abrasion resistance and excellent mechanical durability. In view of the excellent resistance to acids, alkalis and common organic solvents, the filter fabrics can be used almost without restrictions. The temperature limit is above 1300, so that it is sufficient for most filter processes. One. Water absorption and the associated change in length do not occur with filter cloths made of polypropylene. Another particular advantage of the filter cloths is their low specific content, which is less than 1.0. weight. The filter cloths according to the invention are particularly suitable
for the filtration of suspended matter from gases, whereby the filter
Electrically charge and thereby the suspended matter
pull, so that their deposition is facilitated.
The warp and weft of the threads, yarns or wires made of polypropylene forming the filter fabric can be drawn cold or hot before weaving. The filter cloths can be made of polypropylene alone "the entlialten. Except
stand or also contain other fibers or threads. Except-
to the. can the filter fabric in addition to polypropylene z. B. contain wires made of metal as a supporting structure. If the filtering takes place at a higher temperature, it is expedient to subject the threads or the filter fabric to a heat treatment before use, as a result of which shrinkage of the fabric during use is reduced. It is also expedient to use threads for the production of the fabric which contain ".." poor stabilizers or light stabilizers. Particularly suitable for the production of the filter fabrics according to the innovation are threads, wires or tapes made from polypropylene obtained by the so-called low-pressure process. The extremely regular structure of the thread molecules (isotactic or syndiotactic) and the resulting strong tendency to crystallize are probably the reasons for the good properties of the filter cloths according to the invention.
