Seite an Seite zueinander verlaufenden,
streckenden Antriebswelle 24 verbunden,
an welche die jeweiligen
vorderen bzw. hinteren Differentialgetriebe
Motor vehicle with a transmission connected to the engine. The invention relates to a motor vehicle having a transmission connected to the engine, the output of which can be connected to the drive wheels of the vehicle. In such vehicles it is customary to mount the engine near one end of the vehicle and to arrange its output shaft essentially in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle. The engine power was taken from that end of the engine output shaft that is closer to the center of the vehicle. For example, if the engine is stored in the front of the vehicle, then power has been drawn from the rear of the engine shaft. The consequence of this is that at least some of the parts belonging to the transmission are arranged at the rear of the engine and that this greatly narrows the space for the driver. To remedy this drawback, in a motor vehicle with an engine according to the invention connected to the transmission, provided with an output shaft extending in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle and mounted near one end of the vehicle, the end of the motor output shaft remote from the center of the vehicle is arittriebsmäs3ig connected to the transmission. According to a preferred embodiment, the transmission consists of two power transmission paths which run side by side and are connected to one another by gearboxes, one path containing the vehicle engine and the other path extending alongside this engine. The invention is preferably used in vehicles with four-wheel drive and with front and rear differential gears and corresponding drive connections with the front and rear vehicle wheels; in this case the transmission contains a differential gear which can be driven by the vehicle engine and which is in drive connection with the front and rear differential gears. It is also expedient to provide a torque converter in one power transmission path and a releasable clutch and a speed change gear in the other transmission path. The invention is shown in the drawing in two exemplary embodiments; 1 is a plan view of a four-wheeled motor vehicle with the novel transmission design; FIG. 2 shows a plan view corresponding to FIG. 1 in a somewhat modified embodiment. In the embodiment of FIG. 1, the vehicle has two front drive wheels 10 and two rear drive wheels 11, and both pairs of wheels are connected by front bw. rear shaft halves 12 and 13 connected. These shaft half webs are provided with differential gears 14 and 1 5 at the front as well as at the rear. The motor 16 mounted approximately above the front axle has an output shaft 17 extending in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle. The transmission takes place through a torque converter 18, a gear 19, a releasable clutch 20, a speed change gear 21 and a controlled central differential 22. This central Differential 22 is connected to a drive shaft 23 extending to the front and to a drive shaft 24 extending to the rear , to which the respective front and rear differential gears 14, 15 are connected. In this arrangement, two side result by side to each other lying transmission paths 25 and 26. In the first transmission path of the Notor is 16, and the second transmission path 26 extends alongside of the engine 16. The fhrzeugmotor is disposed in the first transmission path 25 so that the output shaft 17 extends forward and is drivingly connected to the input of the torque converter 18, the output of which is formed by the shaft 27. The other power transmission path 26 contains the clutch 20, the transmission housing 21 and the controlled differential 22, which are all drive- coupled to one another . The power drawn from the shaft 27 emanating from the converter is transmitted to the input of the releasable clutch via a chain transmission 19, which can also be replaced by a pinion. The forwardly extending drive shaft 23 is designed as a tubular sleeve in the example shown, through which the shaft connecting the speed change gear to the controlled differential is passed. The crown gear 28 of the front differential 14 is arranged at the front end of the drive shaft 23. The second transmission path 26 is spatially offset from the longitudinal center axis 29 of the vehicle, but by means of the gear wheel pair 30 in the central differential, the rearwardly extending drive shaft 24 is brought into a position that is coincident with the longitudinal center axis. The purpose of incorporating the controlled central differential is to design the vehicle in such a way that excessive front wheel skidding or locking of the rear wheels is reduced . If the front wheels slip or the rear wheels lock, the control means in the central differential automatically lock the differential with the result that the torque is transmitted to the two drive shafts. As can be seen from the drawing, it is noteworthy that the central differential is located close to the rear of the vehicle engine and all other parts are located in front of the rear plane of the engine. As a result, the driver of this vehicle has a much larger space than is the case with conventional four-wheel drive vehicles in which the torque converter, clutch and gearbox are necessarily located behind the vehicle engine. In the embodiment of FIG. 2 showing a modification, the same parts are provided with the addition "n" to the reference number. Here the clutch 20n is included in the first transmission path and is arranged in the output of the torque converter. Many other modifications can also be made. Thus, the drive can be installed in a vehicle with only two driven wheels, in which case the central differential and either the front or the rear differential are omitted. Not all parts described above are then required in the transmission, and this drive could then be used without a torque converter or without a clutch or without a transmission housing.
