Der Schaukasten besteht im wesentlichen aus zwei Teilen, einer Grundplatte 25 aus biegsamem Werkstoff und einem Gitterwerk 26 aus dem gleichen biegsamen Werkstoff. Zur Herstellung dieser Teile werden aus Kunststoffolien Rippen 28 und 30 herausgedrückt. Auf der Grundplatte 25 entstehen dadurch zahlreiche durch Rippen getrennte Felder 35, die vorn offen und an der Rückseite durch die Folie P geschlossen sind: Im Querschnitt hat jede Rippe einen gewölbten Rücken 36 und zwei nachdem Rippenfuß zu etwas eingezogene Seitenwände 38.
