Description
The invention relates to a process for the production of citraconic anhydride by oxidation of unsaturated ones Hydrocarbons with oxygen or gases containing oxygen in the gas phase elevated temperature in the presence of a vanadium-containing oxide catalyst.
In the catalytic gas phase oxidation of methyl aromatics, such as toluene, xylenes, cresols, etc., only traces of citraconic anhydride have so far been found in the product. For the gas phase oxidation of a fraction of cracked naphtha hydrocarbons which contained about 60% olefins with 4, 5 and 6 carbon atoms, with air over a V, O 5 catalyst containing arsenic acid (cf. US Pat. No. 2,719,853), yields were shown Citraconic anhydride specified up to 10.3 percent by weight. In US Pat. No. 2,773,838 it is mentioned that traces of citraconic anhydride can occur in addition to mesaconic anhydride in the gas phase oxidation of non-aromatic unsaturated hydrocarbons with more than 4 carbon atoms on a special vanadium-phosphorus oxide catalyst. Higher yields in the production of citraconic anhydride by the direct route of the catalytic oxidation of hydrocarbons have not been known to date.
In contrast to maleic anhydride, which is produced by catalytic gas phase oxidation Certain hydrocarbons, such as benzene, succeed in high yields, was used for citraconic anhydride so far no comparably simple way of obtaining high yields has been described.
The industrial production of citraconic acid and itaconic acid or their anhydrides is also known by thermal decomposition of citric acid.
All known methods have the disadvantage that the cost burden on the end product is too high, since the yields that can be achieved are generally low and / or the starting materials are too expensive are. There is, however, a not inconsiderable technical interest in a cost-effective manufacturing process. Citraconic anhydride, the citraconic acid formed from it by water attachment and which have itaconic and mesaconic acids which can be obtained easily by heating the latter in aqueous solution namely properties that allow a very versatile technical application. The patent literature indicates z. B. Possibilities of using the acids or their anhydrides as antioxidants for fats and oils, as an additive to be dried oils to produce harder films, to improve the polymers of z. B. Styrene, epoxides or methacrylic acid esters or as textile auxiliaries.
Die wirtschaftliche Bedeutung des Citraconsäureanhydrids und der entsprechenden, vorstehend genannten Säuren wird jedoch durch den hohen Marktpreis begrenzt, der durch den Aufwand für die bisherThe economic importance of citraconic anhydride and the corresponding ones mentioned above Acids, however, is limited by the high market price, which is due to the expense for the so far
ίο bekannten Herstellungsverfahren bedingt ist.ίο known manufacturing process is conditional.
The invention is intended to provide a process for the production of citraconic anhydride which, when using easily accessible starting materials, can be used to obtain considerably higher yields and thus allows the desired product to be produced inexpensively. This object \ vill according to the invention under application of the above-discussed general procedure achieved in that isoprene is used as the unsaturated hydrocarbon, at temperatures between 200 and 500 0 C and vanadium pentoxide as a catalyst. Experimental results have shown that in the gas phase oxidation of isoprene < under the specified conditions and with a short residence time over the catalyst, up to approximately 35 percent by weight of citraconic anhydride - based on converted isoprene - can be obtained.
Als vorteilhaft hat es sich ferner erwiesen, wenn einIt has also proven to be advantageous if a
Catalyst is used, which also contains tin oxide contains.
By oxidation of isoprene with air over a catalyst of nominal composition 2 SnO 2 · V whose preparation is described further below 2 O 5, at 288 C C, a contact time of 0.47 seconds, and a mixing ratio of air / isoprene in the feed gas of 120 / 1 volume / volume, a yield of 34.6 percent by weight citraconic anhydride, based on converted isoprene, was obtained. 23.7% of the isoprene was converted per throughput.
To prepare the catalyst used, 90 g of NH 4 VO 3 were dissolved in a mixture of 125 ml of diethanolamine and 150 ml of H 2 O with boiling.
An initially yellow, then dark green precipitate formed. After neutralization with 15 ° / o sodium NH 3 -water the solidified thickened precipitate and solution overnight on a water bath to a gray slurry, a, at room temperature. After ostündigem heating in the heating furnace at 500 0 C a brittle mass, which was crushed to a yellow powder were pressed from the pills of 8 mm diameter and 3 mm in height, which bisects served as catalyst therefrom originated.
If, under otherwise identical conditions, isoprene was treated on a catalyst consisting of fragments (3 to 5 mm in diameter) of a solidified melt of commercially available pure V 2 O 5 , the isoprene conversion of 3% was much lower than that of the tin vanadate catalyst , but the isoprene-based yield of citraconic anhydride was almost the same at 20 mole percent (33.3 percent by weight).
Die partielle Oxydation von Isopren mit Luft läßt sich an Zinnvanadi.t-Katalysatoren, die auch aufThe partial oxidation of isoprene with air can be carried out on Zinnvanadi.t catalysts, which also act on
Vorzugsweise werden aus Sicherheitsgründen außerhalb des Explosionsbereiches liegende Gasgemische eingesetzt.other than the route described can be produced, for. B. by introducing SnO 2 in a VaOs melt, to the advantage of the citraconic anhydride yields at significantly lower temperatures than on pure V 2 O 5 . The weight ratio of the two catalyst components SnO 2 and V 2 O 5 can be between 1/10 and 10/1. Instead of pure isoprene, industrial hydrocarbon mixtures containing isoprene can also be used for economic reasons. The oxidation may be carried out at temperatures of 200 to 500 0 C, are preferably carried out at 250 to 400 0 C. The contact times can be between 0.05 and 5 seconds, with higher temperatures resulting in shorter contact times (and vice versa). Oxygen, air or other oxygen-containing gases with inert components can be used as the oxidizing agent. The molar ratio of oxygen to isoprene in the feed gas can be between 200 and 10. For safety reasons, gas mixtures outside the explosion area are preferably used.
