Description
The invention relates to a method for making compost from cattle manure, substances containing cellulose and mineral fertilizers, such as Superphosphate or the like.
Such a method is already known (French patent specification 1230 959; USA patent specification 2750269). There, cattle or horse manure is mixed with cellulose substances and other nitrogenous substances and, after grinding, stored for a few months in the absence of air. In contrast to the production of compost on the basis of poultry manure (British patent 822 683), in which a mixture of manure and peat moss is crushed, piled up and aerated, the above-mentioned method on the basis of cattle manure mainly causes odor problems. It is therefore important to combine the excellent properties of compost made from cattle manure with the elimination of odors.
In addition, it is known (Klapp, Textbook of Acker- und Pflanzenbau, 1951, pp. 138, 139) to ferment manure by stacking it with access to air.
The invention is based on the object of a compost of cattle manure that is not only weed-free, but also practically odor-free is. This odor removal should be done in a simple way without adding special, relatively more expensive means.
The invention consists in the combination of the following features: a) First, the cattle manure is homogenized in the absence of air and stored until it is free from weed seeds; a b) then this mass is mixed with peat moss litter and temporarily stored with access to air for about 3 to 4 months; c) then further peat moss litter mixed with mineral fertilizers is added to the mixture in such an amount that the dry matter content of the mixture is about 30 to 35 percent by weight; d) the mixture is then stored further with access to air until the peat moss litter decomposes.
With the aid of the method according to the invention it is practically the first time possible, a weed-free and, above all, odor-free compost based on cattle manure produce in an economically justifiable way, so that this compost on the most diverse Distribution channels can be sold and sold.
As mineral fertilizer, especially nitrate of lime or the like are used -.. The compost produced by the process of this invention may be lehmähnlicher humus, which completely decomposes and is odorless. However, this organic compost, suitably mixed with peat moss litter, is broken up into soft, crumbly, clay-like particles, whereby the compost can be effectively scattered over the whole of the soil or mixed with it. Dry peat moss litter is also added to the manure to add moisture.
The homogenization in the absence of air is expediently carried out in large containers by stirring, pumping, etc.
The mixture is stored, particularly in an open basin especially by circulating, turning or the like. Machining with good ventilation. The decomposition the entire substance is controlled by it. About the dry matter content To increase, add more dry peat moss litter and other materials to the mix admitted. After further storage of the mixture thus obtained and decomposition of all added substances, the mixture is packaged for sale.
The invention is explained in more detail below using an example.
First the following ingredients are used: Cattle manure (manure and urine), peat moss litter and fertilizers such as phosphates and calcium nitrate.
The cattle are kept in stalls with a rubber floor or similar held elastic materials that do not require litter of straw or the like, then urine and manure can be collected in a manure gutter and transferred to one large closed container, e.g. B. a concrete basin can be derived.
In this container the mixture of urine and manure, e.g. B. by Pumping or stirring, homogenized. The mixture is preferably with a Oil layer covered on the surface so that it does not come into contact with air.
The urine-dung mixture produced in this way contains only the weed seeds, which have passed through the cattle digestive tract. These weed seeds however, they are destroyed if they are kept in a liquid for several months. This means that the mixture has become weed-free as a result of this storage.
This essentially liquid mixture is then mixed well with dry peat moss litter and stored for 3 to 4 months, for example, and exposed to the air. The peat moss litter is broken down in the usual way by the action of bacteria in the presence of nitrogen. During storage, the compost is used once or twice e.g. B. rotated with a shovel or machined to ventilate it further.
Even if the peat moss litter has completely decomposed, this compost is not yet odorless. This smell always adheres to it to remove it, cattle manure odor becomes more. dry peat moss litter added to which a phosphate fertilizer, e.g. B. superphosphate and nitrogen, such as calcium nitrate, were added so that the percentage of dry matter is increased to about 30 to 35 0 / '0. This mixing is accomplished by chopping or planing at high speed, e.g. B. by means of rotating blades or knives carried out. The mixture thus obtained is light and airy and is z. B. piled by bubbles and then stored long enough so that the newly added peat moss litter can decompose.
After 1 to 3 months, the peat moss litter is sufficiently decomposed and the compost is ready and completely odorless. If he z. B. is packed in plastic bags, it is even suitable for sale in retail stores, supermarkets or the like.
