Die mit Staub und Flugasche beladenen Verbrennungsgase treten durch den Zug vom Herde in den Staubfänger bei c ein, werden durch eine Wand oder Platte e gezwungen, zunächst die ganze Ringkammer d zu durchströmen, und streichen endlich aus der letzteren durch' eine oder mehrere Öffnungen b^l in den inneren Raum b, der je nach den Umständen den Ofenschacht, den abwärts führenden Zug oder den Schornstein darstellt. Eine Durchgangsöffnung b^l wird am einfachsten dadurch gebildet, daß man zwischen dem oberen Rande des inneren Schachtes b und der Unterseite des haubenförmigen Daches einen ringförmigen Zwischenraum beläßt, wie aus der Fig. 1 zu erkennen ist. Der Staub gelangt auf diesem Wege der Rauchgase unter der Einwirkung der Fliehkraft durch Türen g aus der Kammer d in die Staubsammelkammern f, worin er sich niederschlägt. Diese Kammern f werden durch ein die Kammer d umschließendes, im Grundriß quadratisches Gehäuse α gebildet und sind so groß, daß sie den Staub und die Flugasche während einer reichlich langen Betriebsdauer aufzunehmen vermögen, ohne gereinigt werden zu müssen. Um nun aber den Staub aus ihnen entnehmen zu können, sind die Kammern f mit Reinigungstüren h versehen.
