KAISERLICHES PATENTAMT. PATENT CLASS 16: Fertilizer preparation. Patented in the German Empire on December 5, 1880. The present innovations relate to an improved method of making man-made manure containing tar mixed with lime as the main ingredient. The previous attempts to use a compound of lime with tar for manure purposes, as is well known, have failed because the tar mixed with lime retains its syrupy consistency and it was impossible to pulverize the mass; the process to be described provides a lime-tar compound which permits the latter. A kettle or container of any shape is used to carry out the same. This kettle, which can advantageously be made of sheet iron, is filled with the tar and the latter to a temperature of 700 ° C. brought so that he receives the necessary thin liquid. The tar can be heated either by direct or gas firing or by steam, but in each case the kettle is provided with a double bottom for the purpose of preventing the tar from burning or to serve to circulate the steam. When the tar is sufficiently heated, as indicated, the previously pulverized lime is added in a ratio of about 70 per cent. of the tar. The lime can either be added by means of shovels or through a funnel. The mass is then mixed thoroughly by means of a shovel or a paddle or mechanical stirrer, and it is immediately noticed that the mass takes on a powdery appearance. This sudden change is explained by the fact that every particle of lime is impregnated with tar, absorbs the tar, and dries it. If you remove the mass from the kettle, it disintegrates and you can sieve it immediately. This lime tar powder is now mixed with chemicals or other fertilizers, as potash, iron salts, sulfuric acid ammonia, bone powder, bone char, etc. These materials are better powdered beforehand and then mixed cold with the lime tar. The process can also be used advantageously for the production of gypsum tar manure, in that it is only necessary to replace the lime with gypsum. Patent Claims: In the process for the manufacture of fertilizers in which tar is the main ingredient: 1. . .1. The pre-heating prior Theeres to approximately 70 0 C. for the purpose, 'the same to impart the necessary Dünnfiüssigkeit. . . 2. - "·,..■■2. The introduction of powdered lime or gypsum into the heated tar. - "·, .. ■■ 3. The mixing of these materials for the purpose of impregnating the lime or Gypses with 'tar and a crumbling '/ to form mass. 4. Die Vermenguhg dieses1 Kalk-Theer- oder Gyps-Theer-Pulvers mit anderen Dungmittem in Pulverform.4. The mixing of this 1 lime tar or gyps tar powder with other fertilizers in powder form.
